Star Realms and all its expansions are pretty much all the same. Star Realms is not for everyone. It is a battle deck builder and can be frustrating at times as the game can swing out of nowhere. If you’ve played the core game you’ve more or less played all the expansions. The variety of cards is fantastic. They’re all mostly different but don’t expect mind blowing new features to actual game play. The expansions add to the fun that already there and don’t add anything uniquely new. It’s a game that if you become a fan of it you’ll continue to love it. A great intro game to the deck building mechanism and genre. The theme is fun and the head to head nature is also fun if you like take that’s. For me and my wife, we enjoy take that games and we love deck builders.

My husband and I are always looking for new games we can play with just each other, so when a friend of ours recommended this game saying he and his girlfriend play it together frequently and really enjoy it we quickly bought our own set! The game is very easy to learn and has multiple variations of game play for groups of 3 or more. When you play with only two players most games don't take long to play, but each time is different enough that you can easily play several games in a row without getting bored. We like to play a few rounds while watching baseball games, or just a couple right after dinner. The decks are easy to travel with as well so we've started bringing them with us when we go visit friends in other states so we can play multiplayer versions. ... MoreMy husband and I are always looking for new games we can play with just each other, so when a friend of ours recommended this game saying he and his girlfriend play it together frequently and really enjoy it we quickly bought our own set! Additionally, there's a free app you can download to play against a computer and has challenges to test your skills. You can pay something like $4.99 for the full version that allows online play and playing with a friend.

Purchased to give my hubby and I something to do thats not Magic:The Gathering, which I find to be too much reading and quite frustrating once someone will obviously win. This does still have a bit of reading on most cards but it's not the paragraph of M:TG. Plays like dominion, deck-building, and it's nice how everyone has approximately the same chance at cards to start with. Starts very equal (which M:TG does not). We love the artwork and game play, and hope there will be additional factions for expansion. It does still have the obvious-winner effect once one person gets pushed down to 10 points, but there are quite a few close games as well. I enjoy this game so much that this has been my second purchase of Star Realms, this time as a gift. Although it's a game that has been around for a while it hasn't aged. It's a fun deck-building game with (if you hadn't guessed) a space theme. Many small expansion packs help to give twists to the original game (some co-operative) and although it's a 2 player game it can be expanded to 3,4,5 & 6.The game starts with opponents having the same cards in their deck and 5 in hand except for the lead player who has 3 cards in hand (to negate advantage) for their first turn. But as you are straight into purchasing from the off, decks quickly start to differ. There are 4 factions each of which have slightly different effects, from card cycling to attack to drawing extra cards, to scrapping and boosting Authority. These can also affect your opponent. You are purchasing from the same trade row and you don't have to stick to one faction. Making choices of which cards you want and which you want to deny opponents can lead to difficult choices.I like the strategy and difference between each match as I try to mix up the emphasis of each faction. It is infinitely replayable and with all the expansions this turns into quite a collection. Luckily there is a storage box sold separately to keep them in.This really is one of those games that is easy to set up and play but hard to master.

Star Realms is a great take on deck construction games. The number of cards available is fixed and the ones that could be bought each turn is shared among all players forcing everyone to think carefully of your moves. Overall the game is not too complex to learn and it plays very quickly making it a very nice game to bring around. Word of advise: the base game only allow 2 players to play against each other unless you buy two copies. Personal presence is to buy base game and any of the major expansions if you are interested to play in four as you will also have a wider range of cards to use

Star Realms: 2 Players*, Ages 12+, Average Play Time = 15-20 Minutes “Star Realms” is a very different kind of deck-builder, at least, that was my first impression. For one, you don’t have access to ALL of the available/purchasable cards from the get go like you do with “Dominion”…it’s more like “Star Trek Deck Building Game: The Original Series” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation Deck Building Game” that way. I also took a liking to how there were four different factions and how their effects chained together. It made me consider cards from the trade row that I normally wouldn’t have purchased. I also took a liking to how there were four different factions and how their effects chained together. It made me consider cards from the trade row that I normally wouldn’t have purchased. There’s also the odds factor to consider as the discard pile is shuffled each time your deck runs out…there’s no guarantee that your factions cards of the same type will come up together in the same hand. The bases were also something I had to get used to as normally, all of your cards are discarded before your turn ends. Since some act as a defense against attacks, they can add an extra security blanket for when things go horribly wrong. Bases also have abilities that they can use EVERY turn they are in play making them an ideal pick for when you have the money to burn on new cards. Since new trade cards are drawn to replace purchased cards, you never know what’s going to come up making each game satisfying random and unpredictable. For you experienced deck-builder gamers out there, you’ll be pleased to know that yes, you can scrap cards to remove dead-weight from your deck. “Star Realms” starts out a bit slow (one damage here, two damage there) but after about fifteen minutes…whoa boy, watch the damage numbers fly! It quickly becomes a race to see who can out-damage the other guy (or girl) more quickly, making me rethink my strategy to invest in a lot of cards that yield money. Still, the player will have plenty to think about, what with the faction bonuses and the ever-changing pool of available trade cards. As such, “Star Realms” makes an excellent introductory game to the genre and is light and portable to boot. It’s well worth the twelve to fifteen bucks you can find it for on Home Essentials Direct.

Surprisingly fun for me, too!
25 April 2023

This was a gift for my son and I assumed he would like it but I wasn't expecting to like it so much! It has been so fun and surprisingly easy to pick up. We watched some videos but the symbols and rules are really pretty intuitive. We didn't understand the usefulness of the Machine Cult cards as much until we played a few rounds on the app. Playing it on the app and learning more of the rules made us love the game even more. I'm pretty sure expansions are in our future!

This game is insanely fun. I've played several TCG, CCG, Deckbuilders and more, as I'm kind of a card game fanatic (mostly Yu-Gi-Oh and Hearthstone). I'm gonna tell you all a little story, which attests to the quality of this product: It was a Thursday Night when I was 16, as I stepped into a card shop off El Toro street in Orange County, CA. The venue was hosting a Thursday Night board game get-together (which, to my knowledge, still exists), where I wanted to meet some new faces. An older gentlemen was playing with another younger man with Star Realms, which I was offered to play. I sat down, the older gentlemen taught me how to play in 5 minutes, and I beat him with a Green Rush Deck! I thanked him and walked out. Four years later, I stumbled upon a game called "Star Realms", which happened to look a lot like that one Spaceship game I played years ago. I remembered how much fun it was, and picked it up to play with my friends. I played my first round in 4 years, and still remembered every mechanic and strategy I had prior, it was that easy! Soon after, all 6 of my friends wanted to learn, and currently 4 of them have a copy of the game + the expansion ready to play. The game is so fun and engrossing, even years after one experience trying the game, and only a few rounds with my friends, we were all hooked. There isn't another title like it. TL/DR: After playing the game once, 4 Years later me and my friends instantly got hooked. A must-buy for anyone looking to have fun!
