As opposed to our other docking station/cloning bay, cloning a drive on this is a HUGE hassle. Instead of just using a slider switch like other cloning bays, this requires holding a button for 4 seconds to switch to cloning mode, and then holding down the clone button for another 2 seconds to start the cloning process. Also the labeling for SOURCE and TARGET is just an indentation in the plastic instead of paint, so it's nearly impossible to see on the black chassis, making it really easy to accidentally wipe a drive when trying to clone it; we had to break out the label maker and write instructions on this thing for cloning and label the SOURCE and TARGET drive bays.

Second, the product does not vary in quality and features any other that costs $ 15. The electronica is basic, does not notice much quality in its construction to justify the price. Its size is excessive for the electronics, it seems to me little useful. Poor USB cable prevents maximum USB speeds 3.1 Conclusion: I think $35 would be the right price, $88.87 seems to me scam for this unit, when I received mine I felt cheated. I do not want other users to go through this.

I bought this dock mainly to clone a failing hard drive. It did exactly as claimed. The dock was simple to unbox, setup, and start using. It came with both a USB type B to C and USB type A to B cord so you can hook it up to just about any USB 3.0 or 3.1 capable computer. With and SSD this thing flies! The quality is pretty good as the base has a bit of weight to it. The eject buttons are really nice to have for the heavier spindle drives but careful if you use it to eject SSDs because when the connector lets loose, they can darn near fly out of the slot. Also when you clone drives keep a fan handy. It has nothing to do with the design of this dock, but the cloning process does get the drives pretty toasty.

I found it very useful in consolidating drives. The ability to power much larger drives is very useful. I have managed to consolidate five drives onto a new NAS. I have also reused three of those drives, saving enough money to cover the cost of the dock. I has a laptop that literally caught fire. I thought the drive was burned up. Turned out I was able to retrieve the files after scrapping the remains of the laptop. Without the dock, I am not sure I could have recovered the files
I used this unit to replace a 500 GB SSD SATA hard drive with a 990 GB SSD SATA hard drive in a server. WOW! Talk about easy. Shut down the server, inserted both drives in the unit. Followed the directions and had a complete copy in about 20 minutes. Booted the server back up as if it had the original drive. Then I followed the directions on the website to expand the open space on the drive to its full capacity. Couldn't have been any easier. Very useful tool for anyone who works on moving hard drives.
Only had it for a few days but it works great. Cloned a 1 TB hard drive with a few things on it. Took a while but that is to be expected. I've now had this unit for a week. I have written and read from two different hard drives. Backed up up to it. And I just now pulled the factory hard drive running Windows 10 Pro (Toshiba 1TB) with 327 GB of used space and cloned it to a WD Black 1TB. Took a bit more than 3 hours. Installed the WD and it booted up like normal and is running like there is no difference. Impressed.
I use this as an external HDD holder for 2 12TB. I am consolidating my video collection from various older HDD's. On occasion this involves using the adapter for old Serial HDD's.I have two of these units, one for each laptop and they are reliable. I haven't tried the clone feature yet as I am still coping everything to my new HDD's. Once I have the masters done, then I'll clone them so I'll always have a back up.But my biggest complaint is the transfer speed for a unit that is supposed to be 10GB. Nowhere near it. I get avg 32-45 MB/s on a good day. Most of the time is 5-16 MB/s. It is more like a 2.5/3.0 transfer speed with the supplied short cables.I have a Seagate 4TB & 5TB Backup Plus that gives 145+MB/s. I understand that since its able to copy the drive down to the partition sizes it should take a good while. Mainly wanted to use for work to streamline pc replacement since Im required to transfer files onto drives provided with the replacement pc. Also for those unaware its always advised to make a backup image somewhere invade somehow the drive gets ruined during offline copy. Havent had opportunity to test while connected to pc using third party program. Also the status indicator is not centered with viewing window. I am OK with this, except it does not mention this in instruction manual. So lets say you are upgrading for from a 350GB drive to a 1TB drive. You will have a 350 GB partition on the new 1TB drive and ~650 GB of unallocated space, plus several recovery partitions. That means that you still only have 350GB of usable space on the 1TB drive until you can add the 650. You can use the windows drive management tools to extend the partition ONLY if the two partition are adjacent, which you can visibly see in this tool. This is our second StarTech product. They all work great. USB 3.1 and 3.0 connections are very stable. StarTech quality over the last 4 years has solidified our confidence in their solutions, so we plan to continue to purchase their stuff. Our other product from StarTech was their External Drive Enclosure for 2-HDD USB 3.0 which also perform very well. This unit replaced a similar inferior product by Thermaltake Duet HDD Docking Station which kept getting disconnected and causing file system errors.
