I've had my Staub braiser for several years now and really love it! I use it for frying when I need a slightly larger pan than my regular cast iron skillet and when I need to sear something before putting it in the oven. I even made Beef bourguinon in it and it came out great. It also looks amazing when it's just parked on the stove!

Built like a tank to last.

Staub makes great cast. Great even heat retention and you have to love the easy maintenance finish. While not necessary, I like to use a lard stick after a wash with a quick pass and wipe down. This is the companion to the Staub Dutch I bought years ago and still looks new. Now to figure out what to cook tonight.

Hardworking Braiser!!

Absolutely gorgeous and hardworking braiser!! This is my first piece of enameled cast iron by Staub (I own quite a few LC) and I love it. Cooks evenly no matter what you're cooking and it's a great all around pot. Plus it's beautiful on the table!! I look forward to many wonderful meals with this workhorse and love that we got a great deal via the website.

I Own Two of These Braisers and...

That should tell you how I feel about this pan! Frying in this pan is such a delight! Food turns out moist, tender and cooked to perfection! This can be your everyday pan. You can fry chicken, fish, steaks! You can roast beef, pork, bake a ham...anything!! Spaghetti sauce, scalloped potatoes, the list goes on! Before using this pan, make sure you wash and season it with oil, with your stove temperature on a low setting. I only do this for a few minutes, then I wipe out the excess oil and it’s ready to go. If you’re frying, I find it best to cook your food in a heated pan that’s set on a lower temperature, and I adjust the temperature up or down, if need be. Don’t try to turn your food over too quickly. If your food is sticking to the pan, the pan should release your food on its own and that’s when you should turn your food over. I know that some people do, but I don’t use metal utensils in my cookware, nor do I put any of them in the dishwasher! I find that cleaning my Staub pan is easy peasy. Just follow the instructions that come with your booklet and you should be good to go. I’m not a great cook, but I learned some of these trick by watching others on you tube or by trial and error!Staub makes a wonderful product and this beautiful dark blue braiser is no exception. I have a variety of pieces and I love them all! Happy cooking everyone!

La Mer color is beautiful, knob is undersized
10 December 2022

I bought this braiser in the La Mer color, which is lovely. The size and shape of the pan makes it versatile, and I find myself reaching for it often. My only complaint is that the knob is too small for such a heavy lid, making it feel unwieldy and awkward to maneuver. I recently replaced the knob with the fish-shaped Staub knob and it is so much more comfortable to hold.

One of my favorite pieces of cookware evaaahh

I own a lot of cookware. A lot. From lots of other Staub pieces (also great) to French stainless steel and tinned copper pieces. This has really earned its keep - so much so that it just sits on the stovetop now instead of going back into the cabinet. Like others have mentioned, it heats evenly and is incredibly versatile - wide enough to sear meat without crowding, enough surface area for quick reductions, great for rice dishes, sautes, stews, shellfish, sauces, it's actually my go to pan for boiling spaghetti noodles (and uses less water) or cooking/finishing pasta in sauce. I haven't used it as a roaster yet but it would also do a fantastic job roasting a good sized bird because of the shape and depth. It really has a surprisingly generous size and width despite being only listed as 3.5 qts. The rounded sides are perfect for even heating and working with a spoon/spatula etc. and I do prefer them over a straight sided saute pan. If you're having a hard time deciding on this one, you should get it. This one piece can do the job of numerous others, cleans up well, and looks good doing it.

One of my most useful pieces!
8 December 2022

I have quite a lot of Staub pieces, and this is one that stays out on the stove and gets used all the time. The size is *perfect* - you can boil spaghetti laying flat in this pan, strain and finish with sauce right in the same pan. I've made ratatouille (see photos), roast chicken, jambalaya, reduced sauces (very nice because it's so wide), seared meat etc. etc. It also looks great as a serving piece. Something about the proportions of this pan makes it just aesthetically really a lovely piece to look at as well as use. Enameled so you can soak it, and it cleans up beautifully.

One of the most beautiful IMHO

I think this braiser in any color, but this deep blue in particular, is one the most brilliant pieces in the Staub collection. The shape of the braiser - with the cast iron domed lid - and the side handles makes for such an elegant presentation of even the most humblest foods. If you, like me, make a fair amount of one pot, stew-y, curry-ie, simmer-y vegetables and meats, or elevated rice dishes, then this is a cooking vessel for you.It will easily become a go to pot. And even without the lid, the bottom becomes a great roaster, or round baker. So many uses. For me, a great deal of the enjoyment is the rich blue color. Worth Every Penny

You simply can’t beat the investment in a Staub. I own the 5.5 quart cocotte and now this braiser. It’s a thing of beauty and a workhorse. Quality built and large with substantial weight. I don’t think I need any other pieces beyond these two as they can handle any cooking or baking job you throw at them. Staub is worth the investment as they will last a lifetime and I consider my two keepsakes to be handed down.
