Staub - La Cocotte, 24 cm, Round, High, Cherry Red, 40501-485 / 125024
Like all STAUB Cocottes, the High Cocotte is made of enamelled cast iron, combining the advantages of cast-iron cookware with the benefits of high-quality enamel glaze: They are extremely durable and offer very even heat distribution. The special structure of the lid makes sure moisture is dropped back on the food for best results. The High Cocotte is 3cm higher than the classic Cocotte, resulting in an added volume of 1 litre. This means you can cook larger quantities on a small burner, making sure all the surface of your Cocotte has contact with the hob for optimum energy efficiency. The slim form makes it easier to store in an average-size kitchen cupboard or fridge. With its added height, this Cocotte is especially well suited for deep-frying or searing food, protecting the cook and the kitchen from splattering hot oil. To make the most of the advantages of this Cocotte, try it with this kind of usages: recipes that require additional space, such as meat with bones like a roast crown of lamb, or stuffed bell pepper. Prepare your sauce first, then add your al dente pasta and serve, keeping it warm for a long time. Frying food without splattering oil all around your cooking area. Creating layered dishes that needs space in height preparing a souffle.

I purchased one and exchanged it for another in the this same color pattern. Make sure you check the exterior surface for small manufacturing defects in the enamel coating. Both items (the first and second) have extremely minor defects in the enamel coating. The first, which I returned, had issues around the lip at the top. I was worried about it eventually eroding or getting worse so I exchanged it in store. The one I picked out also has very minor defects, but not in a high use/wear area so I decided to keep it. I would purchase again and recommend to friends, but I suggest you inspect the pot before buying.

If you need a nice cast iron pot that isn't too big or too small, this pot is the exact right size. I couldn't find any cons about this pot so I'll explain all the pros. The pros to this pot is that it works with everything. You want to make bread? Perfect. You want to make a delicious stew? Perfect. You want to slow cook? This pot has all the answers for you. This pot holds onto heat for a long time and it really enhances the taste of the food really well. This pot is definitely a workhorse. It locks down all of the juices and moistures that would previously come out if I were to cook on other pots. Definitely a 5/5 star review.

This pot makes life so much easier. It keeps the food moist. It retains more nutrients and weight and shape of food. Sue to the thickness of the bottom, food is much less likely to burn or scotch. The ease of just adding thoughtful ingredients and letting it be is life changing. The colors are delightful. And best of all, extremely easy to clean. My favorite pot and well, I’m collecting lots of colors to complement my cooking.

I've had this less than a month but used it enough times already to see what I've been missing without this addition. Beautiful inside and out - and functionally wonderful. It's a treat to use, yields great results with what I've tried so far. I usually put my pots and such away in a cabinet but I'm leaving this on the cooktop unless I need the space. It would be interesting to see these being produced. There are some videos on the Staub website that show a bit of the process - but the result is amazing so there has to be more. I debated the other colors but this black is perfect.
Bought the 5QT Dutch oven/cocotte for my wife for Christmas. Her favorite color is red. She loves to make long simmering soups, stews & braises. Other cocottes have enameled interiors that are not as superior as Staub’s, as they crack & craze after only a few uses. The interior is non-stick but not made with the chemicals most all other non-stick cookware it made from. Staub is truly the ultimate in cast iron cookware. The lid has little drip nodules to redistribute moisture back into the food. She was elated with the gift! Thank you Staub for you superb products!
I don't appreciate being lied to! I don't know about you, but this come in the form of false advertisement. I woke up to receive an email stating my review title. I compared the going price, to the advertise sales discounted price. Sur La Table is using the suggested retail price as their actual sales reduced price, which is actual their regular price for this item. BUYERS BEWARE! A suggested retail price can be marked up to any amount, hint the word "suggested". In closing, this is not a deal, nor is it a true sale up to 75% off. This particular item normally sells for $150.00. at 75% off the regular market retail price, you should be paying $37.50. Do your homework.
This stunning piece of cookware is so lovely it’s hard to believe it’s built to withstand the rigors any kitchen, and the red coquette is a perfect addition to my kitchen. Christmas dinner rosemary roast beef was cooked to perfection. Thanks to my daughter for the gift that will continue giving for generations! This piece is a perfect addition to an existing set or as an introduction to high-end enameled cast iron cookware. It can handle everything from soups and stews to baking crusty bread with ease. However you use it, this piece is sure to become a prized possession in no time.
I’ve never owned a Dutch oven and always used one of my Farberware pots for soups and stews. So, before investing in an authentic Dutch oven, I did my research and chose Staub. This was the smartest cookware decision I’ve ever made. Beef stew and dumplings, chicken and dumplings, soup — everything I’ve made in it thus far has more flavor and the meat is more tender, the dumplings come out perfect — and I’m just getting started! Really looking forward to learning more about making this versatile Staub Dutch oven my go-to cookware and handing down this beauty to my daughter and her girls. I’m very pleased!
This was my 2nd purchase of Staub cookware and I can honestly say I have retired all my other cookware. I have zero negative comments about either pieces I own. It is very heavy cookware but that’s the price you pay for cooking with cast iron. I’ve not had any problems with food sticking but I will say cooking with cast iron is different from other types of cookware and you definitely need to use lower heat. Clean up is always a breeze but I never place mine in the dishwasher. The finish looks as pretty as the day I bought both of them. This one I’ve been using approximately 4 months and my other piece I’ve been using over a year and both still look brand new. I’ve ordered the braiser with the glass domed lid and I cannot wait until it gets here. This one I’ve been using approximately 4 months and my other piece I’ve been using over a year and both still look brand new. I’ve ordered the braiser with the glass domed lid and I cannot wait until it gets here. I use my cocottes for soups, boiling pasta, chili, pasta sauces. Once I did notice a slight dulling of the finish inside after cooking a very acidic tomato based sauce so I took a paper towel and very lightly rubbed some olive oil in it then wiped it off. It came right back to life and have not noticed that again since. This brand is very expensive but I can say that it’s worth every penny as it will last your lifetime if you take care of it. I used to say I would never buy a pot that cost so much but now I don’t feel that way. I consider it an investment. After seeing the difference in my food cooked in this vs some competitors I’m addicted. My next dream piece is an oval shaped piece. One thing I will warn you about is the handle on the lid gets very hot even just cooking on the stove, so be careful and keep a potholder handy. You will love the tight fitting heavy lid that keeps the steam inside and allows the moisture to drip “rain” down on your food as it cooks. There’s just nothing negative to say about this and I am sure I could go on and on about the benefits of it. Happy cooking!
After having searched for non-toxic cook ware that is also durable, I've finally come across this cocotte. The first dish that I've cooked in it is Minnesota Wild Rice and Mushroom soup , and the result was more than I had expected. The cooking quality that stood out was that there was no burning of the ingredients at the very bottom of the pot, which usually happens with milk-based dishes. I used a wooden spoon for mixing as had been instructed in the manual. The heat retention was superb as well, as compared to my experience with other cast iron pans I have. I used noticeably less gas, and the cocotte had to remain in room temperature for some time before I could put it into the fridge. Aesthetically, I look forward to featuring this piece on a dining table when we invite guests. The ultra-marine color looks unique and goes well with other colors, such as shades of black and red. Most importantly, I appreciate the idea of washing fewer dishes as the food does not need to be transferred into new pots to look good while serving. In sum, main features that stand out are: heat retention, size, ability to perform multiple functions (boiling, baking, caramelizing), aesthetic appearance, and longevity. In addition, mainly glass coating over cast iron core is what had sold this product to me.
