These batteries are almost worthless!! I bought these batteries because the new MSA300 saw requires them but unfortunately the combo is as close to worthless junk as you can get while still functioning. Why "worthless"? The single red indicator light on the battery let me know that the battery was too hot to charge. OK. It's sad that yet again the "new and improved" technology is a nothing more than a huge step backwards. Stihl should have waited until the technology was actually ready to be used in the real world. Save your money and mental aggravation: Don't buy an AP500S unless you live where it's cold all the time.

Over the course of 3 hours I nearly drained an AP500s battery between a top handle saw and a pole saw, so the usage was intermittent and never continuous for more than 45 seconds. And for the last 1/2 hour I barely used the battery at all other than to make a few very quick cuts on small branches so they would feed better into my chipper. Despite this very light and intermittent demand of the AP500s battery it still took 45 minutes for the battery to cool down to the point where it would recharge, and of course it takes over an hour to fully recharge the battery(No fast charger). Again, I want my money back because the AP500s does not deliver anything close to the quality of performance that I expect in an allegedly professional grade product. This is more like Harbor Freight quality at Festool prices. Absolutely 100% pathetic Stihl, get your act together and fix this nonsense.

Homeowner with 135R and after edging and light string trimming it was down to one bar. Expected the 135r to last longer. Glad I got the 500s and not the 300.
The down side is that Stihl vastly overestimates the amount of continuous use you can get, because they don't tell you that the battery will take as long to cool down before charging as it does to charge. This basically equates to having to buy another spare battery to have in rotation to cool down while another battery charges. Now I'm wondering if I have to buy a mini fridge to charge my battery in a reasonable amount of time. Obviously the generic response of "battery life can not be estimated... We would like to know more about storage and use..." is beyond unhelpful.My batteries and saw are brand new and like others have stated in reviews, are too hot to charge for 30+ minutes on a 70-75 degree day. Even using them in eco mode.
I bought into the KombiSystem. Many years ago I owned a big box, gas powered system of attachments, and enjoyed the versatility. Today, with technology, battery power, and other innovations, STIHL has created an awesome, do-it-all, package for the warrior homeowner. The power and battery life is outstanding. The equipment will work longer than I care to. The results are awesome, machines intuitive, and with two batteries, you never have to wait for anything. No regrets here.
I used my edger for the first time after I fully charged the battery and assembled the tool and I was disappointed that it only ran for 20 minutes before the battery was dead. I was disappointed for sure!

I bought the stihl pole saw a month ago. Honestly, the best purchase I've made in years!
Pros:- 2500 full cycles to 80% capacity (versus 1250 cycles for AP 300 S.- 20% more capacity (337Wh versus 288Wh).- Bluetooth function to keep track of battery utilisation and location (phone app allows you to see lifetime and daily hours and minutes of use)Costs a fair bit more than the AP 300 S but with more capacity and double the recharge cycles, seems worth the premium.Allows me to run a KMA 130R battery Kombi unit with string trimmer attachment for 1 hour and 20 mins on the lowest speed setting.
