I really like this saw. I had purchased a Stihl 036 Pro chainsaw in 1996. It worked great for 28 years before I decided to get a new saw. The MS 362 C is the current Pro model in the same size as my old one. The new saw starts easily, idles smoothly, and it can definitely cut wood quickly. While I liked my old, I am glad that I bought another Stihl. Also, Bobby's Small Engine Repair, where I bought the saw, is the only repair shop that I use. It is also five stars!

No complaints with the saw, typical Stihl quality, excellent upgrade over my consumer saw. Expensive but still a good value for the money. I believe there are equal quality saws on the market but the X factor I find with Stihl is the amazing dealer network. Stihl is very dealer centric which can be a pain at times unless you have a good one close by, which I am fortunate to have.My local area has a robust logging industry, so my dealer services the pro's even more than the consumer. After owning an MS-250 for a few years, having moved to large property with extensive forest that needed management, I quickly realized i needed to add a larger saw to the quiver. The 250 has always been great but it labors with hours of heavy cutting. The saleswoman at the dealer asked what I needed, showed me appropriate options and I ended up with the 362, non-M, with the wrap around handle. Where the dealer experience really shined was during setup. The saleswoman helped me choose a 25' bar with a full skip yellow chain. I'm mostly cutting soft wood, so the idea here was to get more speed and less effort, less time sharpening as well. As opposed to buying online or a box store where I would have had to get the stock bar and then add on the larger unit.Compared to the MS-250 the 362 is a beast. It frankly starts more easily, and the power difference really cuts down (pun intended) on the time needed to fell and buck. I probably could have done with 462 but nevertheless am happy with my choice. Compared to the homeowner saws, I really appreciate the metal rather than plastic case, better filtration and rebuild potential. These saws are quite expensive so it can be a big decision if you are on the fence between homeowner and pro. That said, if you plan to use your saw to do hard work and expect decades of service, I do think the value is in the pro-units. Small two stroke engines can be cheaply made and it becomes quickly obvious when the are a bear to start and burn up quickly. So, when I am in the market for portable power equipment, I follow the buy once, cry once adage.

Every time I use this saw the oiling system stops to work due to clogging. I've used the saw about 15-20 times. Each time the oiler clogs within 15-30 minutes of use.I have purchased many Stihl products over the years. The ms362c appears to be a lemon.

The MS 362 is flat out the best saw I have ever used. Fast, powerful, dependable and light weight are all features of this saw that make cutting into difficult hardwoods enjoyable. I have used the MS 362 with a 20 " bar and a 32 " bar without seeing a drop in performance. As an old man with an aging body, to be able to stand up and rip through logs with a lightweight saw is another reason the MS 362 is the saw for me.I would highly recommend this saw to anyone who wishes to reduce high heat bills while enjoying the recreational benefits of providing your own source of winter warmth for you and your family. You will not regret the day you bought the MS 362 STHL saw for your wood cutting needs.Sincerely ,Direwolf
I bought this saw many years ago. Easy to maintain and use. I run Sthil bar oil and 2 cycle manual oil mix @ 50:1. Changed the plug twice and have worn out 2 chains running on 32” and 20” bars cutting 40 cords of Doug Fir wood max dia. 40”. This saw is extremely dependable, plenty of power and easy to start. I don’t recommend this saw for the inexperienced. Keep the chain out of the dirt and rocks to preserve their longevity. Tip, when cutting Fir check the cut line for rocks imbedded into the bark. I’m now looking at the MS 251for limbing and property cleanup as the MS 362 is overkill.
Bought this brand new from a local, authorized Stihl dealer. Got it to the site, made sure it had gas and bar oil and was good to go, and started it up. I started cutting some 2" to 4" limbs on a blowdown. It cut through it like butter and ran like a dream. I shut it off and set it down to move some of the trimmings then went to crank it back up. Nothing on the first pull, I figured shy hot start, so I pulled and pulled and pulled. After probably 50 pulls, the pull cord locked up and would not come out of the case.I called the dealer who asked me to bring it back. They took the muffler cover off and looked inside and the piston was coming apart. Unbelievable! I have been running Stihl saws for 30 years and have never seen anything like it. I give two stars because I believe Stihl has the greatest saw design and a great warranty, but the quality control has seriously declined in the past several years. Get it together Stihl!
When I finally cracked the case on my 1978 041 Farm Boss I bought this to replace it (and yes, I had the old Boss repaired...fortunately). Upsides--definitely a stronger, faster saw which really rocks with skip-tooth chain in the pine and aspen I typically cut. Lighter, and while the vibration on my old pre-AC 041 never bothered me, I'll admit the 362 is a whole lot nicer to hold all day. Downside: spent 5 hours helping neighbor clear dead trees and 1.5 hours of that was letting saw cool, fighting vapor lock and fighting to restart it. By the time you run a tank through it and then open the ridiculous locking gas cap, you'll find the gas is "boiling," and you'll find it darn hard to clean all the crud off the cap before opening it--thus getting debris in fuel (and ... MoreWhen I finally cracked the case on my 1978 041 Farm Boss I bought this to replace it (and yes, I had the old Boss repaired...fortunately). By the time you run a tank through it and then open the ridiculous locking gas cap, you'll find the gas is "boiling," and you'll find it darn hard to clean all the crud off the cap before opening it--thus getting debris in fuel (and oil). It was not flooding; pulled the plug three times and it was dry. Moving the choke from full to partial is tricky--the plastic cam gives little feel and has an indistinct detent, and with gloved hands its very easy to flip to full open when it ain't ready yet. Other than that, the fuel tank could use another 25% capacity. Anyway, I took i to the dealer yesterday who recommended using 91 octane to reduce vapor lock problems and tweaked it a tiny bit more rich. So we'll see, but in 60 some years of running small engines on a multitude of devices, I've never had so many issues with starting. No way in bleeping blue heck I'd use that thing on a fire. When I got home I grabbed the 041 to trim a couple rounds and it started on third pull after sitting two or three months. So I'll give it a bit more of a chance, but increasingly the odds are I'll get rid of it and go back to a saw that starts and runs. And I'll add this--I've little doubt that some of the design/reliability issue result from the idiot CARB restrictions and Sthil just has to live with those. But I shouldn't have to live with a thousand dollar saw that won't reliably start.
I was a huge fan of Stihl--have a leaf blower, weed eater, and chain saw. However, I bought a 362 in 2020 and it clearly was a lemon--froze up after a couple month. Sent it back and they said they fixed it. It happened again. The problem is Stihl delegates warranty to the distributor, and ours in Ohio would not stand behind it. Even though it was clearly defective they made me buy a replacement at cost instead of replacing. I called and the distributor would not even look into it--he clearly did not care. I appealed to Stihl but they did not respond.Bottom line--typically a great product but at least in Ohio, don't expect them to stand behind it. I hate it, but for future purchases i have to switch because as much as they cost, I need them to back what they sell.
Unstoppable powerful chainsaw, lives up to expectations and even over deliversWe cut and sell firewood. About six years ago, we switched to Stihl after trying all of the alternative products in the professional level chainsaw category. Based on the price, and the manufacturer’s reputation for quality, our expectations were high. From the outset, the MS 362 mastered every task we gave it, from felling large trees to cutting bulky logs on the ground. We also ran some time tests in the first week. Even after eight hours strait this saw would not give up. Along the way, and hundreds of hours and logs later, we have not had any performance degradation. Her are some learnings to pass on:1. Treat this MS 362 with due respect. Safety first is very important. This chainsaw is a real powerhouse;2. Use the recommended Stihl gas mix and oil. These products are slightly more expensive, and the investment pays off in power and performance;3. Take the cover off and clean this chainsaw well after each usage. The way the motor cover is constructed tends to result in sawdust mixed with residual oil buildup in the case;4. Keep the chain pretty tight and free of foreign materials. Otherwise it can get stuck in larger logs and stall;5. Do not store the chainsaw in a place that has temperatures below zero. If this is not avoidable always empty the oil and gas since it will otherwise leak out; and6. Keep this MS 362 on a yearly maintenance. We recommend taking it apart and giving the housing and engine a cleaning. Similar to other German companies such as Daimler, Stihl would really benefit from having a maintenance program for these high end products. While the electronics, for example for cold starting, seem robust, it would be great to have dealers that understand how to check the software and hardware in a regular service inspection. We particularly recommend this product for anyone interested in high performance and raw power. Put your earplugs in, chaps on, wear good boots and gloves, and a hard hat when using this product. The Stihl MS 362 CM is an orange colored workhorse that will make even the hardest knotty wood an easy task.
I have a Stihl MS291 with an 18 and 20 inch bar that's a great saw, but after having rotator cuff surgery I wanted the button that when pressed reduces compression and makes starting much easier. Also I have some large trees in my yard and required a minimum 25 inch bar. This saw is great in many respects. For one you can set it down while you move things around and it idles perfectly. I cut a 58 and 60 foot colorado blue spruce that had died in my yard. I purchased an Alaskan mill and plan on making a 4 x 9 foot table as soon as the Stihl ripping blade gets into the dealer.
