Let me paint a picture of what a normal day cooking my Helgas Gluten Free Soy and Linseed bread in the past has looked like - I push down the bread on say setting 5. Once the cycle is complete and pops up, the toast is barely crispy. So I decide to pop it down again and will either a) cancel the cooking process multiple times until my bread is toasted to my liking OR b) leave it cook and come back to find that it is burnt to a crisp.With my Alinea Select Toaster this little morning adventure no longer exists. This toaster has a button that takes into account the very fact that often gluten free bread is more dense and requires a little more cooking time!It took me a little bit of getting used to - for instance on my first use I forget to set the browning setting and accidentally ran through the cycle on a browning setting of 1 (whoops!). But once you select your browning setting bread type (my go to for the above mentioned bread is GRAIN) and hit that Gluten Free button, the toaster does the rest for you.It does still have a quick check function if, like me you’re still a little paranoid about trusting a toaster to actually cook your gluten free toast right!But I am absolutely loving having this little breakfast helper on my bench top - and it doesn’t look half bad either, I mean, who doesn’t love classic matte black.

Very Happy with the toaster and the quality and look of it. I read a lot of reviews so relieved to get this one and make a good choice! The dial lights and countdown markers look very flash too. The push down lever seems to feel strong and again good design. It seems to toast well although yes some times even on the hottest number 9 setting it needs a little extra for big grain bread. But in general after the first round it runs a little hotter and so will toast more. It is less prone to burning the pita breads for my daughter than my last toaster and over all I would say there is a bit more control due to the settings. The true test would be to use the same type of bread and toast it multiple times on the different settings to see if there is much difference which ... MoreVery Happy with the toaster and the quality and look of it. But I can just leave it on the setting of 8 or 9 and select grain for my toast , then push white for the pita breads and they come out about right too. I reviewed a lot of toasters and am happy with my choice and the fact I got a 2 slice rather than a 4 as they are just to big and clunky for the bench. Also I like melted butter so dont want to deal with 4 bits of toast at once ! My only complaint would be when I toast the vogels extra thin slice ,when it pops up it can get caught on the slight lip at the top of the slot so wont pop fully up and needs a jiggle to unhook it ......also the extra thin slice can fall down off the holder and get stuck below ,so care needs to be taken to sit it on the holder but for most, normal sandwich slice or thicker will be fine.It really does look the part on my bench and the black ties in well with other appliances. In the end .......its just toast Right !!

I have had trouble getting a consist toast from this toaster. I use white bread White bread at 9, the brownest rating produces a white slice with slight off colour ed patches. I’ve tried wholemeal and grain. Grain had one side half down and the other not done. I wouldn’t buy this if I’d known. Had about 2 weeks.
