Sunbeam Kyoto City Collection 4 Slice Toaster - White - TAM8004WH

This is a superb toaster, which I'm reviewing after around a month of use.It easily takes various thicknesses of bread and toasts pretty evenly - no automatic toaster I've come across toasts perfectly evenly so I am happy. The toast pops up high so it's easy to retrieve the toast - our toast tongs are now, ahem, toast! The build quality is good and of course it looks lovely. The blue light while it's operating is a good idea. The slot controls work well and feel solid, and we love the checking function. This toaster is much quicker to toast than our last toaster and seems to draw less electricity. We can actually operate the kettle at the same time as toasting bread while they are both plugged into the same power strip!Now for the downsides.... The matte chrome surface on the top looks great but marks incredibly easily. Fingermarks appear every time it's used, although these wipe off well enough. However, I cannot remove the marks around the slots that mysteriously appeared, and don't want to try anything stronger than the manual recommends in case it makes the marks worse. Small or light slices of bread or bagel or similar pop up pretty high so may go further than you expect. We got this toaster largely because we thought the magnetically attached single crumb tray would be better than individual crumb trays under slots, which often let larger crumbs get stuck. So from this point of view, the single crumb tray works well because it's much easier to get rid of toast crumbs - we brush the crumbs off the tray after each toaster use. I was surprised, however, that the crumbs tend to gather along the plastic edging of the tray so you do need to wipe these crumbs off with a damp cloth from time to time. These are not big complaints, just minor annoyances.Overall, we're very pleased with the toaster and are hoping it will last a long time because it is much more expensive than our last one. Our last one, by Russell Hobbs, was not cheap but lasted only about three years of almost daily use.

The delivery was quick. The product was well packed in a fantastic gift type box. The toaster is exactly what you see on line. Although we used the defrost on two slices of bread & the toast came out unevenly cooked with one side barely cooked at all. Normal cooked toast comes out fine. The toaster itself is a great design and the underneath tray is a great addition for easy cleaning. The light at the bottom is a touch of class. The top metal opening can get very hot so be careful with your hands. For the high price tag I expect the defrost to work better providing a better toasted bread, so will not use that function in futureSo disappointing on that one level.

This is a toaster that actually works. Over the past two years we have had three toasters of various kinds and prices which just stopped properly working. For example, one would only toast one side of the bread; another one would take many minutes on maximum to slightly darken the bread. The new Kyoto toaster works well and the magnetised crumb-catching base is a great feature!
