Been teaching diving since 2008 and from all others I have tried and owned. The D5 is hands down the best computer thus far. It’s not overly complicated like it’s competition and it’s packed with features you should have I believe. Calculating your CNS and PO2 with a compass at any point and much more I gotta day that I am impressed. 3 button user interface makes for simple screen changing and I figured with the software upgrading, it’s a computer for life. For any instructors out there working in difficult conditions, this computer is a must have as it helps to keep you safe and teaches you what’s really going on on your dive. Helps to groom you for better profiles too with the DM5 software after each dive. Thanks Suunto for the support.

I have a bunch of dive computers. I truly love this one. I have about a dozen dives on this computer now but the true test was night diving. Night diving is my most favorite thing and this computer was bright, readable, absolutely perfect for night diving. As a female the size is actually bigger than my wrist, but as a cold water diver it isn't bigger than my wrist + 8mm neoprene. I bought a dive computer, not a wrist watch and I truly love it. This is my 3rd SUUNTO dive computer because I always dive with 2 dive computers and an analog SPG. This computer is truly amazing and the POD tracks tank pressure much better than the old transmitters. This is truly an amazing dive computer.

I bought this in July of 2020 and have been able to use it regularly over the past year. I love the size and the features, and have been happy with the new decompression algorithm. My two biggest gripes, I spent a considerable amount of money on a dive computer that I needed to buy an extra strap for in order to use it with my wetsuit (I feel a long strap should have been included as an extra). I have skinny wrists and the supplied band is only suitable for a bare wrist. The "dive log" app is fairly lame and no longer works after my Mac updated to the latest OS. I switched to a free dive log app that pulls more info from my D5 than the Suunto app did and absolutely love it, so it ended up being a win in the end. Regardless, minus two stars based on the fact this is not a "budget" computer. Being able to pull it out of the box and use it seamlessly, at this price point, is definitely expected but was not delivered. End of the day, I still love it. Perfect face size, battery life is adequate (and it's rechargeable which is a huge plus), and it is otherwise very easy to navigate (I own a Suunto 9 I use daily and for mountain/cycling/running adventures).
I've had my D5 for several months and have many dives on it. With its flexibility, it is my Dive Computer, used for Hiking, and is my choice for Daily Wear. It is easy to configure and easily switches from O2 to Nitrox and back. It is very comfortable to wear and I have both the Lime Green and Black bands, and they are easily interchangeable. If I have any issues, I wish that they would have included both the Standard and Extended Bands. This is designed and meant to be a Dive Computer, but the Standard Band will not fit over Dry or Wet Suits.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,The D5 links up to the desktop interface if you are using a PC, or Mac. The interface allows for easy configuration and backup as well and ability to provide additional details for you dives.
Hello, Good morning/afternoon/night (for insomniacs ;)Below, an exhaustive lists of point I feel as idea of improvement:The 2 'Free loops/Free rings' on the wristband are in lack ofefficiency by the small/only 1mm height approx, which supposes to make them "locked" in the strap holes through the adjustment holes and avoid complete releasing of wristband.During few free dives, these 2 'Free loops/Free rings' slided away on the wrist, releasing the strap and leaving remaining the buckle tongue only.I wear this watch computer as regular daily routine as well and due the environment brightness.I do not require the brightness to be ON. The brightness might be 'long' to reach in case of settings adjustment needed. So, it could be judicious to have a rapid/shortcut ... MoreHello, Good morning/afternoon/night (for insomniacs ;)Below, an exhaustive lists of point I feel as idea of improvement:The 2 'Free loops/Free rings' on the wristband are in lack ofefficiency by the small/only 1mm height approx, which supposes to make them "locked" in the strap holes through the adjustment holes and avoid complete releasing of wristband.During few free dives, these 2 'Free loops/Free rings' slided away on the wrist, releasing the strap and leaving remaining the buckle tongue only.I wear this watch computer as regular daily routine as well and due the environment brightness.I do not require the brightness to be ON. The brightness might be 'long' to reach in case of settings adjustment needed. So, it could be judicious to have a rapid/shortcut "Push button combination" to change some kind of profile (to be created through the software once the watch is connected to a computer;Buttons high+low simultaneous pressed i.e,Profiles could include: customized brightness, Alarm/Timer activation ON/OFF etc*By wearing the watch during a sleep, the timer came ON accidentally.Mention 'temperature' is from my understanding useless; the indication of temperature shows this symbol "°" which means already degree. So display 'temperature' above might encumber the display and take the place of another more useful information. Might be greater to display the temperature value "xx°C/F" upon metric/imperial configuration.Software:Under 'Dives' folder: required the possibility to delete the logs by pressing the 'Delete' key on keyboard which is not the case at this time. Deleting is only possible by right click on the mouse/trackpad.Keyboard needs to be recognized.Same for folder 'Plan'.Might a lot of others ideas. If I feel something else, I will try to update this post if allowed by the website.
The Sunnto D5 is hands down the best dive computer I've ever owned. I've worked as a scuba instructor since 2005 and have had the opportunity to use many other brands and products. The D5 fits so comfortably on your wrist, you almost forget your wearing it. All the features suit me perfectly for the type of diving I do. Whether it's technical diving, recreational diving, free diving or even commercial diving. The display is clear and easy to read and also stylish. I recently took the computer with me on a liveaboard trip to French Polynesia and only had to charge it twice during the trip. The battery life is great! I also really like how simple it easy to change wrist straps. Overall I'd highly recommend this computer to any diver. Thanks Suunto! #reviewtowin
I use Suunto for some time now, I own an Suunto Traverse Alpha Foliage which is best for hiking, trekking, mountainbike and navigation, fishing and hunting(only minus is that it does not have a ballistic calculator) and a Suunto ambit 3 which is very good for mountain adventures. Now about this new Suunto in my collection I have to say that I was a bit dissapointed because of the battery life (only 14h at most and only 7h with diving functions active) but after i have talked to my scuba instructor he pointed the purpose of the D5 and the perfect Dive Computer for the price in the market... I mean when will you dive for more than 7h (recrational diving)? Probably never. Then the function the computer has are perfect for free dive or scuba purpose. So the only minus for this calculator is that if you want to wear it as a watch, you have to recharge it every 14h but the price difference between this watch 550E and the alternative Garmin MK2 which lasts 20 days as a watch it is 800E(Garmin Mk2 is approx 1300E) it is not worthed because ultimately this is a perfect dive computer and maybe Suunto will develop a software for battery saving because D5 looks good as a watch too and it would be very nice if the battery will last for at least 14 days as Suunto Traverse does.Ultimately D5 is a dive computer and it works perfecr as a dive computer.
Suunto D5,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I purchased the D5 mainly to be used for free diving, spearfishing and the occasional scuba dive. I am very happy with the blue tooth connection, downloading all my dives data within a minute or less. The battery life is also better than expected, I usually do an ocean dive (spearfishing) once a week around 4 - 6 hours in the water and two pool free dive sessions around 1 hour a week with the battery only needing to be recharged once during that time period of activities. The screen display and brightness especially in the water is amazing, the screen is very easy to read and use. There is a lot more to this watch that I'm yet to discover and test, so far I honestly couldn't be happier and highly recommend this watch.
