In this sense, I think it would be more viable if the doorbell unit could be connected directly to the power outlet and forget about batteries altogether, but maybe in future generations.Regarding the performance I consider that the device fulfills its purpose almost without inconvenience, what I have noticed is a little delay in the live view and sometimes there are events, few, that are not detected or notified. The video quality is fair, it is not outstanding but it delivers. The sound quality is basic, the microphone and speaker can be heard well, you can interact with the interlocutor without inconvenience, but they are not of high quality. The night mode works although at times it seems that the background is not completely distinguishable. The field of view is wide and you can see a person's full body, an important feature. Something that I consider a plus, and very important now more than ever, is that the device has a slot for micro sd memory up to 256gb which prevents us from being forced to pay a subscription as with other home surveillance devices.While the device works as it should, it is also due to the app that serves to store clips of events, change security settings, edit modes depending on the needs of the day to day and our routine, add detection zones, change the camera settings, sound, storage, add and remove devices, add protection plans, view activities by date, live view, motion detection settings, etc.. It is important to review all the settings and what customization options we have. I think the app is a great help to get more out of this device.In summary, if you are looking for a wireless video doorbell, don't want to spend a lot and want to save subscriptions, this doorbell is a great option and fulfills what is needed. It is an affordable alternative and an easy to use device, I can recommend it.

We currently have a different video doorbell on our home but we were needing one for our camper-well actually we need 2 for our camper as we need one for the sliding door & one for the normal door. Being able to remote into the doorbell and basically use it as just another security camera while we aren't at our camper is really great & something we are happy to have! Installation time was about 10 minutes, from installing the app, connecting to Wi-Fi and mounting the doorbell in the desired location. The barking dog sound is a cute touch though. The video and sound quality of the doorbell are average, and the night mode works okay. I like the wide viewing range, which captures the full body and more of my property. I can now monitor an area that was a blind spot for my previous camera. However, there are delays in the live view feed, which causes missed events from time to time.If you’re able to live with the minor quirks I mentioned, this doorbell is a great cost-effective way to monitor your property with a very user-friendly app.

It is especially nice in that it can be run entirely standalone and does not require any sort of subscription service, although Swann offers optional ones. Due to relentless rains, this took me a bit of time to get installed, but the process was relatively painless, and there are plenty of options for installation.The doorbell itself is actually rather large--undoubtedly to accommodate the battery. Out of the box, the instructions were a little on the thin side. I found myself having to take a close look at the device and bracket to understand everything. In the box comes doorbell and chime, the mounting bracket, wires for hardwiring, and associated mounting hardware . Behind a rubber protector lies the USB charging port and the microSD card. The instructions say it takes up to a 256GB card, and mine worked instantly.There are a couple of options for mounting. The first is to hard mount it by screwing the bracket directly to the structure, and then mounting the doorbell, which then attaches via a screw on the bottom. This was my preferred method, but the width of the the frame around more door barely was wide enough for the mount to attach, and the doorbell would've either stuck out well over the edge or not been able to attach at all, because another part of the wood trim stuck out and would've blocked it. Definitely take a look at the area around your door for mounting options.This brought me to the second option, which I didn't like quite as well but has worked out nonetheless. That is to attach a strong 2-sided adhesive to the back of the bracket, and then attach it to glass (I attached to the sidelight to the right of my door, next to the original plain doorbell). Before you commit to a location (regardless of mounting method), check to make sure the camera view isn't obstructed. The adhesive has to cure for 24 hours before it can bear the weight of the doorbell. After waiting a day, it slipped on and I was able to use the tiny screw to more firmly keep it secure.On the software side, it's fairly straightforward as a process to pair with the Swann app, as is the pairing process for the chime. The app will transfer your wifi settings to the device. (Do make sure you have a good signal in your mounting location!) The Swann app has pretty much everything I need for camera control and notifications.I am still playing with the sensitivity of the motion detector. There's a pretty sophisticated grid pattern to granularly adjust where it will focus, but for now, I've erred on the side of letting it send some false positives. Connection to the camera when someone presses the doorbell is very fast, as is communication (you can speak, or you can used one of several preset messages). However, if the device has gone to sleep and you check an older notification, it takes a few moments for it reconnect and bring up that older capture, which feels a little sluggish. Communication via the speaker and mic are clear--I had my daughter test it with me and we had no difficulty understanding one another, and it felt like there was very little, if any, lag. Video quality, in both daytime and low light, is quite acceptable. The default quality isn't the highest setting, so I did up in the app's settings, and you can also adjust the video's aspect ratio.I haven't drained the battery yet, and I'm a little concerned how long it'll last before I have to dismount it to recharge. I do think my testing undoubtedly drained the battery down faster than real-world day to day use will--I've lost about 20%. I suspect for my real usage it'll be every few months--not a big deal. Obviously this is only a concern if running on battery though, which you will if following the adhesive mounting option. As for the chime, it's plenty loud and configurable through the app, and you can optionally mount it with an included adhesive.Overall, it does everything I want. It's a little bulky, and I wish I could've taken a chance on mounting directly into the wood trim. But the glass option actually gave a better view, and it's very hard to miss. Other than the 24hr wait for the adhesive, the entire setup was really quick. It's a bit bulkier than I'd prefer, and the app, occasionally, a little sluggish. (Though never when someone is ringing. That was very snappy each time.) I really like this and I'd probably look to see what other products I could use with it since I do overall like the app interface. If you want a versatile video doorbell option and especially want something subscription-free, this is a very good choice.

However, in good lighting you get HD quality video and image of who’s at the door or packages etc.The doorbell has 5 or 6 chimes options including one of a dog barking that I actually may use so that someone thinks there’s a dog inside when we’re not there and they ring the bell.Note that it does require 2.4Ghz WiFi to connect so it won’t work on a 5+ Ghz only WiFi network. My router is mixed mode and supports both and it connected very easily.Motion detection works well as objects approach the doorbell and I receive alerts on my phone withing 2-3 seconds which is great.There is an option for cloud storage (for a monthly fee) and comes with a free 60 day trial. I opted instead to just install a 64GB micro SD card to store the recordings locally and that is free. (Supports up to 256GB micro SD card). Note that if you go this route and someone ripped the doorbell off the wall you’d lose the recordings as they are stored in the physical memory card if you install inside the doorbell. That said - when you connect to it, you can download any of the recordings to your phone from the doorbell to save a backup of any of the recordings.I like that the videos are date and time stamped and you can also look at history of doorbell rings, motion detected, pets detected, cards detected, etc.You can turn on/off Do Not Disturb if you don’t want to get the app alerts and also set home/away modes and schedules.All in all, there are a surprising amount of features in this easy to use doorbell cam!

I discovered about 15 minutes later that this was due to the default video quality being "Low". Setting it to "Max" helped a lot. It still isn't quite as nice through the live view as you'd expect based on the camera's specs, but pretty decent. The other issue was how long it takes to connect to the camera. Most of the time, it's about 10 seconds. Sometimes longer, and only once for a two hour period, it was shorter. The app always claims that its waiting for the doorbell to wake up but this happens even when I'm connected on my home wifi with the doorbell and hitting the motion detected notification or answering the ringing doorbell.Now, I understand that there's essentially a roundtrip from the doorbell, to Swann's servers, then to the app to send notifications and set up a connection, but it seems like all or most of that should happen with the delivered motion notification or the doorbell ring. But even if you're right their poised and ready to answer a ring or connect as soon as the motion notification is triggered, there's still a decent delay before you actually connect to the doorbell. The good news is that connecting to the doorbell away from home, on wifi or via cell data, doesn't take any longer. It's the same latency. Also, once connected, it streamed high quality video fine though there's noticeably more delay trying to have a conversation when you're two states away.The doorbell speaker was ok. The audio quality of it's speaker isn't that great - my voice was distorted but it's good enough that you can recognize the voice of someone you know. However, an annoying thing is how the two-way conversation works via the app. So, it essentially implements a push to talk which makes sense and is what I'm expecting. But the way you do it is from the live view (same interface when you answer a doorbell ring), you tap the image/video, then tap the mic icon, then tap and hold a separate icon that says "push to talk off" Even after figuring out how it is supposed to work and having used this for a week, it still doesn't feel that intuitive.You can capture stills from the live view and if you have an SD card installed, you can download video. It auto records around motion events and doorbell conversations. After the experience of needing to set the video quality to Max and still seemingly not getting the "max" quality over the app, I decided to see if the video recorded to SD was better. The good news is that yes - it is. And since you can download video via the app, you don't necessarily need to ever remove the SD card. You can copy video you want, then delete or erase the card.As this is battery powered, the times you remove it to charge could be opportunities to make a copy of the SD card directly but part of the kit are wire connections where you can essentially hardwire the doorbell and make it wired. While it's not a feature I used, I think it's nice because dealing with batteries with devices near my front door (keypad and smart lock) is a minor pain so I'm sure there are people who'd appreciate gaining smart features without losing out on the benefits of having wired power to the doorbell.My final gripe with the doorbell has to do with sharing access. Right now, for the other adult in the home to also have access to the doorbell, I need to give them my Swann security app credentials. So we share the same login which means if someone else wanted to share a doorbell camera with me, they'd also need to share it with a third person. This may not be an issue for some but to me, this is poor security practice and feels limiting. It should be expected the smart access control devices in today's world will generally be shared in some way and handling that in a manner that promotes good operational security should be a first class feature.

I got this camera because it's the same brand as my wired camera system at the house. My camera layout does not allow a good view of the front door so this was a nice solution. My door faces north so I wasn't able to test how it handles direct sunlight.Setup was very simple. I already had the Swann app so I can remotely view my cameras so adding this doorbell only took a couple minutes. I was able to install the camera on the house in about 10 minutes and it's wired into the old doorbell power so it stays charged. The one thing I'm disappointed about is I was hoping I could still use my original doorbell chime since this unit uses the wiring. But it only uses the wires for power, it cannot activate the old chime. The nightvision is very clear and easy to see everything, even with the front light on or off. It's also very easy to watch the footage back through the app. Although it does download anything you want to watch, it doesn't stream it like from my NVR system. It would be nice in a future update if they put these videos in the same timeline stream as the NVR cameras. The live camera view does come up on the App right beside all the wired cameras which is really nice and exactly what I was hoping for.The motion sensing is almost a little to strong. I have a sidewalk about 40' in front of my house and it triggers for everyone walking past even on the lowest setting. Not really a problem though, I'd rather have to many recordings than miss one I need.When someone rings the doorbell it's only a couple seconds before it rings to my phone. The lag for talking to someone is not bad and pretty easy to communicate if you're not home.Overall I would highly recommend this unit if you're looking for a doorbell camera, especially if you already have other Swann cameras. Only having 1 camera app for the property is very easy and convenient.

There is a choice of door chime bells, and I choose one that even my senior mother can hear.The entire house is covered by the excellent Wi-Fi as well.The house has plastic siding and requires special screwing methods that don't sit very well. The only issue was installation, which can be challenging for someone who are semi-disabled. Other than that, everything works well and there are currently no issues. It took a few extra days to receive, mount and secure the product, but it was worth it because it only took a hammer and a finer-tipped Phillips screwdriver.My old camera's battery runs out in a few weeks, this camera seems to be easier and may last longer between recharges since it is not triggered as often by artifacts in the background.This is my third Swan camera installation, installed several decades ago for the VHS store. At the time, they were the market leader, and I installed a full system for them. With the innovative technology, its range of use for personal and business products has expanded, and it doesn't require a monthly service fee to perform the basic functions. It even comes with a memory card slot to record your videos. It's small, but it's still an advantage in its own right. Let's hope this doorbell requires less recharging than the larger camera that does almost similar functions, aside from ringing the doorbell.

I couldn't get my iPhone's camera to focus at first (15 Pro Max). for the QR code. Once the QR code was read, the setup went fairly quickly. The only annoying part of setup was Wi-Fi pairing - it honestly felt scary more than anything else, like the doorbell would be bricked if you didn't enter the right password.Charging via USB-C is as easy as charging anything with USB-C is. Using a fast charger (like a laptop or a 30-watt USB-C brick) doesn't make a difference in charging speed. Connecting it to your existing doorbell wiring is also simple, but you may have to bypass the existing chime to make it work (I don't have a traditional door chime so I wasn't able to test this).Usage - video quality is great, audio quality is great, mic quality is also pretty good. The microSD card recording working well and seems to scrub as fast as my wired, hard drive-based Swann cameras do. Speaking of, this doorbell does not interface with a wired Swann system at all, as cool as that would have been.The doorbell itself has some neat features I've not seen in other video doorbells. The button is lit blue when its inactive, but as soon as you open the Swann app to view the camera or the motion sensor picks up on any motion, the light switches to red so anyone in view knows they're being recorded.The only real disappointing is that this doorbell doesn't come with a SD card inside the package. As inexpensive as a 32GB microSD card is, it seems like a shortcoming on Swann's part.All in all, the Swann EVO HD is a solid choice. Flexible mounting options really set it apart from its competition. Because of the flexible mounting options, this is a solid choice for homeowners and renters alike. Not needing a subscription is the biggest strength, especially for what it costs.
