Synology RackStation RS3621RPXS 12-Bay

They work very similar to the RS3617RPxs that I am replacing and have a lot of similar features. Be warned though that Synology's compatible drive list is much different for these. When I moved my Micron 5200 Pro SSDs (Synology compatible) from the RS3617RPxs to the RS3621RPxs they showed up as Critical and Unverified drives. The RP3621RPxs still works as it should, but it won't monitor the drives properly. When I checked their compatible drive matrix for the new units, it is mostly Synology drives with 1 or 2 non-Synology branded drives. One of the best features of the Synology's was being able to migrate drives from one unit to another without losing any data. We have a half dozen Synology units and have been very happy with them. With these newest units Synology has decided to limit the list of supported drives almost exclusively to their own branded drives. Not only are other drives not on their support list, but DSM flags the drives and storage pool and won't report any health information even though other drives would work perfectly fine. We have always used our choice of enterprise level drives in Synology units. This unit is being returned and replaced with something that has better drive support. This will be a consideration when deciding to purchase Synology units in the future.

We purchased replacement drives for our existing NAS then decided to replace the NAS with this unit 6/2021. We then find out the drives we purchased are not supported by this NAS even though they are supported by the direct predecessor of this NAS (RS3617rp).
