Needed this prime for a while but do not use enough to warrant buying the Nikon version. All reviews gave it excellent ratings and I have to say I agree. Have used only a couple times but results are fantastic. Will be using it to shoot a wedding this weekend. Sharp focus and great colors off of my D4 AND D850. Solid build. Would recommend this lens.

After waiting for months for an f/1.4 -35mm lens, which can tick all the boxes- fast autofocus, sharp from f/1.4 without any CA (need more testing in harsh sunlight conditions), super-sharp from f/2, amazing color rendition (feels neutral) and bokeh (bit cat-eye in corners but buttery smooth).... all under thousand bucks..... Tamron has finally delivered (Canon EF version).Weighing 815 g, this lens feels so so good in hands, and it balances with the DSLR so beautifully. I know you will compare it with Sigma 35mm f/1.4, but I am happy to report that the fast autofocus of the 2019 Tamron lens outperforms 2013 Sigma.. in both photo and video...during both daytime and in low light. I have previous experiences with Sigma Art so I am writing this with confidence. I ... Given that the Canon is twice more expensive lens and only 50g (give or take) lighter, the Tamron offers far better value..... with similar image quality (feels sharper on mirrorless), weather-sealing and metal construction.I have a Canon 6D and Sony A7III. I haven't calibrated this lens for 6D yet. Image looks decent without calibration in 6D. But this lens is for the 40+ MP pro bodies! It is tempting me to buy the EOS R! I am not a fanboy of either Sony or Canon's. I love the best of both worlds. And Tamron is delivering amazing options for both worlds! When they declared they have put all of their experience into this lens, it was not an overstatement.I adapted it on Sony A7III with the Sigma MC-11 and I must say, It focuses in my bedroom at night as fast as the Sony FE 24 mm f/1.4 GM which I own! However, with the adapter it goes around 1000g on the A7III. Also, in my completely silent bedroom, I can here the noise of the autofocus motor moving. I don't think it will affect video recording in outdoors. I will keep testing. But the quality of image I am getting is absolutely worth it.I am writing this review as my initial impression. I will keep updating and add pictures as I try it for astrophotography, and landscapes...portraits as well. This review is entirely my subjective opinion from two-days experience. Please take it with a grain of salt. But I expect this lens will become tremendously popular as soon as Tamron brings its mirrorless version in the market. Until then, I will keep and adapt it.

I was absolutely astounded with the quality and feel of this lens the moment I took it out of the box. I am primarily using this lens for car photography since it is a large hobby of mine. I took a few photos of my dog with the lens paired with my new Nikon D610 and I was amazed by the buttery smooth bokeh, sharpness, and snappy autofocus. The 1st reason I decided to get this lens is because I had heard multiple good things about it from other photographers that shoot similar objects to me and haven't heard a bad thing about. The 2nd reason I got this lens is because since I was buying an older used full frame (upgrading from Nikon D3500 to D610) I decided to go all in on the lens and I have no regrets or complaints.B&H of course did an amazing job as usual with ... Just a bit about my use case. I am a hobbyist. I have been a prime shooter since I moved past the kit lens I got with my first dslr. Over the years I have grown to love the 35mm focal length. I knew I would never drop almost 2k on the Canon 1.4 but I was always intrigued by them. I liked my Canon f2 is usm but I wanted more. So I pulled the trigger on the Tamron. It gets nothing but rave reviews by the experts and everything they say is true. It is sharper throughout the aperture range by far when compared to my Canon. It is amazingly sharp and clear. The colors render wonderfully. The build is solid and sturdy. And I absolutely love weather sealing. Living in the desert southwest means nonstop dust. It is heavy but not as large as I thought it would be. Would buy ... MoreJust a bit about my use case. I am a hobbyist. Going to really enjoy continuing to practice the art of photography with it.
I ordered what is supposed to be a brand new lens. When i opened the box, I can immediately see the difference between a brand new lena from factory and a lens yhat has been opened and put back. In my case, it's the latter. There are also two strands of human hair on the wrapping !Disgusting !Add to that when I removed the wrapping, there are finger prints and smudges on the lens' body!Thank you BH for wasting my time and gas !It will be on it's way back to BH when I get home from work later !
I bought this for my new Nikon Z6 and absolutely love it! Even as a 3rd party lens on the FTZ adapter it focuses incredibly accurate and fast. You've probably read all the reviews from your favorite sites and watched the YouTube reviews so you know that everyone says this lens is potentially the BEST you can buy for your money. The colors, the bokeh, the sharpness, the build quality...everyone has great things to say.If you're here reading a review it's because you have that TINY bit of hesitation in believing them that a $700 lens could really be THAT good, but I'll add my voice as someone who purchased it without a website or YouTube channel to make a clickbaity review for...this lens really is THAT good. There's a few niche drawbacks like a short throw on the ... It's a hefty lens, but that's going to be ANY 35mm 1.4 lens regardless of brand. If you don't want the size and weight then you shouldn't be looking at the f1.4 versions of a 35mm
My first experiance with the Tamron was with the 35mm f/1.8. I reluctantly sold that lens to afford another items. Every time that I took a look at the photos that I had made with that lens I promised myself that I would buy it again. When the time came to make the purchase I was swayed to go for the 1.4. I'm very glad that I did. Both the f/1.8 and the f/1.4 bring a certain kind of character to my images that are pleasing to my eye. I am found of low key B&W images and this lens just nails that look for me. Color is correct, rich and vibrant. I shoot with the Z6, D810 and the DF.
I purchased the Sigma 35mm 35 F1.4 Art around 2.5 years ago. That lens was inconsistent focusing from day one. I should have returned it from the start, but kept it and sent it for Sigma for servicing. It improved somewhat after servicing, but I never trusted the lens after that. I recently gave it to a buddy of mine.I was looking for a replacement 35mm focal length and considered the Canon RF 35mm F1.18 (tried a copy and it is also an excellent, sharp lens) and also considered the Canon 35mm F1.14 II L.After doing some research I stumbled on to Tamron SP 35mmm F1.4 lens and the claims that the IQ was in line with the 35mm F1.4 L II. I was extremely impressed with the sharpness and rendering (bokeh) I saw in the videos on YouTube. I decided to pick up a copy (canon mount) and try it for myself. I am so happy I did. The lens is Superb. Focusing is quick and accurate. The lens is super sharp with creamy bokeh. This is what I was looking for from the start.Thank you Tamron for making an excellent, affordable, high quality alternative to our native mount lens.
In this day and age, having a 'secret-weapon' of a lens, replete with fast & accurate auto focus, beautiful coatings, a unique look, and just good overall usability-well, it doesn't occur often. This thing renders like a Summilux wide open. It is an absolute beauty.Tamron, if you're reading this, *please* run with this formula.
First off, I love the build quality of this lens. Tamron obviously put a lot into its design. I, unfortunately, got a bad copy (though I don't really believe such a thing is that prevalent). After 4+ hours of focus tests and camera adjustments, I decided I wouldn't be able to work with this lens with any real peace of mind. I'd get it fairly corrected for close focus, then the distant focus would suffer, and vice versus. Aperture changes didn't improve anything. But I bought it to use at 1.4-2.0 range. Also, when comparing it with side by side shots of the same object taken with my Nikkor 85 f/1.8G, the Tamron lacked a considerable amount of image detail. (This was for a close up focus). Also underwhelming was the color rendering of the Tamron. The best I could ... MoreFirst off, I love the build quality of this lens. Tamron obviously put a lot into its design. Also underwhelming was the color rendering of the Tamron. The best I could manage in any respect was about average rendering, along with the focus inconsistencies. Your experience with your camera body may differ, and I hope it does. It really is a handsome lens that balances well on a FX body, despite its weight. I believe mine was defective, but even so, I wasn't willing totry a second copy and invest another half a day to tweak a lens that coasts so much. I have high hopes for third party lens makers because market competition is healthy. Again, I hope my purchase is an outlier. I would like to be able to turn to Tamron again if this isn't a pervasive issue. For now, I purchase a Nikon replacement from Adorama, and can't complement Adorama enough on their customer service.
