The 24-70 2.8 G2 is a great lens. Well built and love the finish on lens. It's a heavy lens because of the glass. Very sharp lens at 2.8. And like any other lens. Stop it down to 3.2 through 5.6. Razor sharp. Love the bokeh you get using this lens. This will go with my tamron 70-200 2.8 G2. Great 1-2 combo lens for everything in photography. Great product! Go buy it.

I purchased this lens to be used on my Z6 camera (via FTZ adapter). Trying to save some money, I choose the used one, which B&H described as 9+ (very little or no wear) condition.Upon arriving I made a dozen of test shots and found all of them really noisy. The further investigation revealed the lens increases ISO almost twice. To separate the camera and adapter, I put everything on tripod, switch camera to full manual, then shot with Tamron, and Sigma 24-70/2.8 (F mount) lens (both with adapter). All photos taken with used Tamron were significantly darker. Looks like, for some unknown reason, used Tamron lens sends to camera wrong data about diaphragm opening.Unfortunately, the B&H response was offensively unfair. Recently, the inner glass focusing piece completely came lose inside the lens during a wedding, which I have never had happen to any lenses in my career. When I sent it in, Tamron refused to cover it under their warranty because they found shock damage, despite it not being dropped since 2020 when I paid for another service repair when it came off the camera mount (despite having clicked when it was put on). G2 has snappy low-light focusing
5 October 2022

I have a D810 and I had to make an AF-finetuning adjustment of +19, which I'm not thrilled about. Most of this is due to it being a 3rd party, I assume. My Nikon lenses are adjusted at +5, so probably the rest is a 3rd party lens issue. But after calibration I did a handle held test at 1/13, f2.8 and ISO 10,000 and it quickly nailed the focus on my target. Any darker and I wouldn't be able to see. After making a color temperature adjustment the shot came out surprisingly good and perfectly in focus, though a little grainy, but better than no shot at all. Also I've found no issues with the sharpness of the this lens and overall I'm pleases with my purchase. I purchased this used for $650 because seller said the optics were perfect and they are, and that's what I care ...Ā MoreI have a D810 and I had to make an AF-finetuning adjustment of +19, which I'm not thrilled about. Good, my default general lens
29 January 2023

I'd say the lens has good sharpness very fast autofocus and great vc. I love a fixed 1.4 but the versatility this brings at 2.8 is a great trade off for most situations. F2.8 and the VC make the low light abilities of this lens really good with the versatility of the zoom. Paired with a newer generation low noise at high iso camera a flash is often unnecessary shooting people indoors unless it's done for balancing light or other reasons.

Great quality lens
14 September 2022

First time experience renting a lens and it was a wonderful idea. I was able to test out the lens and did a few extra tutorials (since I’m still new to learning my camera functions I’d say). The autofocus is great, my images turned out sharp and bright. I did have personal technical difficulties trying to work with the aperature correctly but that is me and my knowledge at this point. Other than that I was so impressed with the quality of the lens. It’s sturdy, built well, and nothing cheapy about it.

Started with a 70-200 so this really made sense.
8 August 2022

I started off with a Tamron G2 70-200 f2.8 which is hands down one of the best lenses I ever owned. A fraction of the cost of Canon without sacrificing much at all.I used to be a Panasonic m43 user and then switched to BMD Pocket 4k cameras. I am using both the Tamron lenses on a Metabones Speedbooster and they work great. I now have moved on to first a Canon M6 mk2 and now a Canon R6 mainly for the really good EF lens adapting support. Both work wonderfully and while we wait for 3rd party lens support on the Canon RF mount we have some great affordable EF options out there like the Tamrons.

The only thing consistent about the AF is its inconsistency
26 November 2018

Im sure I got a bad lens (four, actually!), because there’s no way the Tamron flagship lens duo (the 24-70mm and 70-200mm G2) were meant to perform this way, but alas – and I’m not the only person who’s suffered the wrath of poor quality control…The 24-70mm G2 (and it’s big brother, the 70-200mm G2) have the potential of being great lens, and apparently there are a lot of ā€œgoodā€ ones out there. The ones I’ve owned (and no longer do) were ā€œwell builtā€ (in appearance), and ā€˜seemed’ to focus fast. But the autofocus consistency was so poor on all the units that I owned that I simply could not trust the glass. These lenses have the potential of being very sharp as well, but that is the direct by-product of hitting accurate focus – or being able to calibrate the lenses ...Ā MoreIm sure I got a bad lens (four, actually!), because there’s no way the Tamron flagship lens duo (the 24-70mm and 70-200mm G2) were meant to perform this way, but alas – and I’m not the only person who’s suffered the wrath of poor quality control…The 24-70mm G2 (and it’s big brother, the 70-200mm G2) have the potential of being great lens, and apparently there are a lot of ā€œgoodā€ ones out there. But the autofocus consistency was so poor on all the units that I owned that I simply could not trust the glass. These lenses have the potential of being very sharp as well, but that is the direct by-product of hitting accurate focus – or being able to calibrate the lenses consistently, which I could not do. Each time I thought I had the lenses dialed in, I’d take them in the field and get tons of throw-aways. I was to the point that I was switching to ā€œlesserā€ lenses to get the shots – like Tamron’s own 17-35mm which is a sweet lens, or their 100-400mm which was more consistent at 100-200 than the 70-200mm G2 (shame, shame, lol) – and while typically not as sharp as the G2 lenses, when you have accurate autofocus in these other lenses, you end up keeping more shots! The first copy I got was horribly back-focused (we’re talking in feet, not inches), and no matter of Tap-in calibration was able to bring it back (and having the combine a ton of AF Fine Tune PLUS Tap-in calibration is simply unacceptable) - That unit was sent back for exchange, only for me to get one that front-focused (but not nearly as bad [read as ā€œinchesā€]). But I was able to calibrate it quite well with my SpyderLensCal as well as with Focal software. But the calibration didn’t hold as in the field I just started getting really bad shots. Re-calibrated and the lens took a different calibration. Again, tested it out in the field, and poor results. So I did some tests and concluded that this lens (as well as the 70-200mm) had issues when the focus distance changed substantially – if I took at shot, then defocused to the rear or to the front heavily, I couldn’t get focus back on the original subject; it was either front of rear focused. If I made small changes in defocus, the lenses were fine. Then JUST recently Tamron released firmware updates which 1) changed the calibration numbers again (I reloaded my previous calibrations and they aren’t even close now), and 2) the lens seemed to actually perform worse.I spent more time trying to calibrate these lenses than I do in post processing, and that’s a problem.I hope you get a good copy if you purchase – I didn’t (twice).

The perfect compliment for my old Nikon D4.
3 March 2023

I have been using the first edition of the Nikon 24 to 120mm zoom lens for about 20 years now, and although it has been great for portraits and group gatherings, it had some annoying quirks when I used it outside for landscapes (couldn't use a petal lenshood, the horizons curved upwards, etc). So I looked at modern replacements, and the Tamron came with very positive reviews. It doesn't have the length of the old Nikkor, but it has a wider aperture, and stationary lenshood, plus VR. So I have been putting it through its paces, and I am very impressed. I would recommend it to anyone.

Updated Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 VC DI G2; is it worth the upgrade?
16 February 2023

Purchased this newer model at a great price to replace my original Tamron SP 24-70mm VC DI USD f/2.8 (G1) used on my Nikon D750 & D780. (Tamron produced the first 24-70mm Auto Focus zoom with Image Stabilization, or Vibration Reduction for Nikon.) The new version looks more modern, slightly lighter to the feel, ruggedly built, works fine in snow storms, functions similarly as the original; however, AF on the G2 seems slightly faster, especially on my D780 and on my Nikon Z cameras using the FTZ adapter. Both lenses produce similar image quality with the G2 showing sharper corners at wide open apertures. One thing I noticed is that when using the G2 for video on my D780, it seems to have greater focus breathing than the original.
