I use this lens with a Canon 6D. It is very well built, not like a L but really nice, while small and light. The lens looks just the right fit when mounted on the Canon 6D!Weakest focal length is 28mm: hazy at F3.5 then F5.6 much better, but you need F8 for sharp borders (F11 for corners). Then coverage improves with focal length, and around 70mm good image on all the field from F8, then the lens stays very sharp at 200mm near F8 as well. At 300mm you get a really huge amount of radial chromatic aberration which can be annoying on high contrast subjects, though once corrected in Lightroom or ACR final results are surprisingly good if not very good; images at F300mm F6.3 are somewhat usable but F8 is really where you want to be.Close focus is a really nice ... MoreI use this lens with a Canon 6D. My sample seems to be very well centered on all the range, the extension happens without any play. Zoom ring is on the firm side and precise, focus ring is smooth to rotate... perfect.Stabilization works well but you have to get used to the image jumping down a tiny bit when you activate the lens. Also I had to enter AFMA corrections to get good focus results. I plotted in Excel all the AFMA corrections for all focal length and I could align data between 28 value and then 100-300 region, the 35 to 70 range had to be left a bit more front focus. In practice, I find the lens a pleasure to use despite both rings are inverted for a Canon user. Having a 10X+ zoom on a full-frame is really an exhilarating experience. I would recommend the lens to someone who will control focus (set AFMA and use LV for critical images), also control aperture to get best sharpness. Using RAW files is a must because some corrections will be needed. Distortion is a bit high at 28mm then after is less a problem, some corner vignette but Canon lenses can be worse. Colors are fine.Obtained images in real life can be surprisingly good. The lens works well for casual shot, focus speed is OK for my modest needs. For travel, I'll use it in combination with a 16-35mm L F4 IS and the 8-15mm fisheye. My 70-300 L will probably stay home because while it is a much better lens optically (obviously) post-processing magic will do with the Tamron. In conclusion I give 4 stars but realistically it is difficult to fault Tamron on that one. Yes the lens won't replace a Canon 24-70 L lens for image quality (no way) but this Tamron is a very challenging optical design to built which may explain the high cost! Used properly results can be very good.

This is a great lens. I am actually using it with my Canon EOS M200 with an adapter, and it works wonderfully. The macro ability is amazing. The pictures I included are demonstrations of the macro and zoom. The moon picture is cropped, so that you can see the slight chromatic aberration (the pink and blue along the edges), at extreme zoom and on very high contrast subjects. The lens I got was listed with a condition of "Bargain", and it does look like like it was previously used, but it is completely functional and the image quality is great! "BARGAIN items are 70 to 79 percent of original condition and priced to sell. More than average wear for the age of the item, and may have dents, dings or finish loss. I asked for advice on which camera to take for a photo workshop in Wyoming. I told the tech I loved my Tamron 18-400 lens and would like to use a full frame camera with one. I ordered the items suggested. When I arrived in Wyoming I learned that the lens was incompatible with the camera. That was on Friday Sept. 10. I reached out to Roger and asked what I was doing wrong. He told me it wouldn't work. Monday you shipped me a lens that arrived late Tuesday night via FedEx. I lost five days of 7 day trip because of this error. I have NEVER had anything but excellent ratings for LensRental. I understand that with Covid there are staffing issues. This error cost me a tremendous loss of images on a trip to build my portfolio. Next time, I will test in the parking lot.

Been a long time fan of Tamron telephoto lenses since I bought their first 28-200mm lens back in 1995. Was a little disappointed with this latest Tamron 28-300mm because the rental was to be used exclusively for DSLR video recording. I could not use a tripod, so I noticed that the zoom ring was a little rough & sticky which unfortunately makes for rough and jumpy DSLR video when hand holding a camera. On the plus side, it has a completely silent AF motor which means you won't hear the motor running at all in recorded videos. Can't say that about my 1995 Tamron 28-200mm !
If you have a full frame camera and wish to keep your camera gear to a minimum, then this is a fantastic lens. My copy mounted to a Nikon D610 focuses accurately (minimal in-camera micro-adjustment made) and the VC on this Tamron works very well. This is one of my favorite "travel lenses".My only knocks:1. If it could be 24 mm at the wide end and retain 300 mm at the long end, and retain the relatively good IQ, what a treat that would be.2. Not quite tack sharp, but for such a large zoom capability, it's worth the compromise. A little bit of sharpening in post and you will have very nice captures.
Wide range lenses like these usually are pretty rubbish and not usable for much. This lens however, is fairly sharp, though of course incomparable to a good prime lens. Comparing to other lenses of this type though, the lens performs extremely well. The aperture is not as wide open as would have been ideal but the image stabilization compensates for that extremely well. It is easy to get sharp images even with slower shutter speeds, which would be needed to get the proper exposure, especially when the lens is extended. The lens is sturdy and feels very solid, the wheels are very smooth and auto-focusing quite fast. This is one of the first lens of this kind, that is actually usable for something, and not to mention it's compatibility with full-frame sensor cameras ... MoreWide range lenses like these usually are pretty rubbish and not usable for much. You will not be disappointed with it if you are looking for an all-in-one kind of lens. I own this lens among some primes, which are always great for studio work. This lens on the other hand is great for travel and is an on-the-move type of lens.
I purchased this used, but remarkably clean example for $376.00, Dec. 2018. I was looking for something w/extended range to rival the Canon 24-105mm L lens as an all-purpose walk-around lens to fill a whole in my inventory for an older, but minty, Canon 1DS MKII.. (I also use a more modern Canon 80D). I have the 2nd gen. Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 (A009?, you'll need a crane & truss for use w/the 1DS MKII), Tamron 100-400mm (nice, lightweight, long lens) and a Canon 70-200mm f/4 (always great). This Tamron 28-300mm 3.5-6.3 PZD Di VC for Canon does the job admirably and is remarkably smaller & weighs less than the venerable 24-105mm, too..!! Sharpness, color, contrast are in there at all apertures.. What is also pleasantly surprising is it's accurate, fast, low light auto focus ability, something I didn't expect.. Rev. Dustin Abbot reviewed this lens positively, accurately and enthusiastically. His review convinced me to find one.. (I ALWAYS check with Rev. Abbott & Christopher Frost to see if they have a review). This PZD version isn't cheap, but after trying the less expensive (junk), disappointing and horrendously unusable earlier LD version (I was trying to save $), I must say that I am now a Happy Camper. When I upgrade to a newer full frame camera, this lens will remain in my inventory. It's a lot of fine glass for the $.
I paired this lens with a Nikon D750 because I was looking for an all in one lens for travel. I also tried the Nikon 28-300 and I preferred the Tamron hands down. The quality was much more than I expected. Images were sharp, focus was fast and silent and the lens is so light. I was expecting to have to "settle" for some compromises because frankly, "all in one" lenses are notorious for having some limitations-especially when being paired with a full frame camera. I have to say, I was PLEASANTLY surprised with the capabilities of this lens. So much so that I bought it! Give it a try. As always, the condition of the lens was great, packed VERY well and arrived on time. Overall the build quality is good and for the wide zoom range the lens produces sharp images. Also on the positive is the size and weight of the lens which lends itself to being a good all day carry travel lens if you only want to use a single lens. On the negative I find the autofocus to be very slow overall and very inconsistent, especially in less than strong, bright outdoor light. I am thinking this might just be this particular lens and most other reviews of this lens do not suggest that is a problem area. I have several other Tamron lenses (150-600mm G2, 100-400mm, and an older 18-270 Di II lens that focus much faster and more consistently than this 28-300mm. This lens does allow for immediate manual focus just by turning the focus ring, so there is no need to move the switch from auto to manual first, which is a good thing. Would I recommend it, yes overall, especially if you have one that doesn't have a slow focus issue.
This is an amazing lens considering what it's: a lens for Travel Photography. It's compact, it's lite, AF is not the fastest but is decent and sharpness is decent. A lens to take with you when traveling because it covers from 28 to 200 zoom range and does not weight that much.
