Excellent lens at an amazing price. Attaches easily and works well. It is important to read the simple manual before using as it explains how to use the different settings. I researched for a long time before purchasing this lens. I had limited budget and really wanted a good zoom lens. This had excellent reviews from many sources. It has far exceeded my expectations. I am an amateur photographer and this is perfect for me. The results are fantastic. It focuses well. The macro mode is great too.

This lens works much better than I expected and is also more stoutly constructed than I thought it would be. The manual focus and zoom work smoothly and well and though it takes a little getting used to the macro setting is very useful. The only drawback is the auto-focus is very loud and not very accurate when zoomed past about 250 mm. this is not a big deal for me as I mostly use it on manual focus anyway. When I use this lens for video I mount a seperate microphone away from the camera body to cut down on the auto-focus noise. This lens is used for wildlife/nature photography.

When speed is not an issue but price is, this is the lens for entry grade TF and Macro photographers. This is not my first one; I have long term experience with this lens. I use it a lot for nature photography and the results are great. People goggle over my prints and are amazed that my shots were taken with such an economically priced lens.

Great A mount lenses are getting harder to find, especially ones in like-new condition. Mine arrived on time, securely packaged and as good as advertised. The macro capability makes it especially useful.
I bought my first DSLR camera and was looking for an alternative lens to the default one 18-55mm that came with the camera. I was attracted by the numbers because at that time I did not knew much about cameras and lenses. Also, the price was affordable, and I went for it. I love this lens, I love the focal length and the blur it creates on the background by focusing on the object I want. I'm really pleased with it. When I use it, I know I can make great pictures. It's difficult to explain by words, but when compared to the standard lens that came with the camera I can see a huge difference. What disturbs me a little bit, is the fact that I can use it only outside. Because of the angle, I can't shot pictures inside a room for example. What disturbs me a little bit, is the fact that I can use it only outside. Because of the angle, I can't shot pictures inside a room for example. I have to stand quite away from the person in order to take pictures. I don't have many other lenses, so I can't say too much. Comparing to the standard 18-55mm the camera has, this Tamron is a great tool. Sure, if you spend 1000$ for a lens you'll have probably better quality. But, for the price you get this Tamron, you couldn't get better results with any other lens I guess.
For the price you cant really complain about anything this lens does or doesnt do. My micro shots are great flowers/bugs/etc turn out crisp and vibrant. Now the down side, as a telephoto is so Blah don't plan on using this on wild life thats over 50-75yds away. Even with optimal camera settings and manual focusing the lens has a tough time. Again for the price really not bad, but with a comparable lens that maybe double the price is well worth the money if you plan on shooting anything but landscapes. If your looking for a cheap capable lens for shooting good shots of your kids at a game or your dog in the back yard or want to get into some macro for a cheap price go for it.
I use this lens on my Sony 230a and it has worked pretty well so far. The images during the day and bright lighting are sharp and look great. However, the lens struggles in darker lighting. Some of the issues include the auto focus working too slow or not at all, image quality is not consistant, and I usually have to resort to manual focus for the flash to work correctly with the lens. I would still buy the lens since the price was so low. Perhaps I need a new flash. I would recommend a tripod for darker lighting.
There is no lens above 200mm currently available for the NEX cameras. So I got 70-300 Tamron with Sony Alpha mount and the Sony Alpha/ E mount adapter. What I did not realize is that Sony SLR's have camera based image stabilization systems. Therefore, Alpha mount lenses do not have the OIS built in. Even those by other lens manufacturers. NEX cameras rely on lenses to provide IS. Well, 300mm is just too much for the hand held pictures without IS. I had no choice but return the lens. I would get the OIS lens with different mount and E mount adapter, but only Sony makes the model which transfers all lens functions to the body. I will just have to wait for somebody to make the E mount equipped long tele lens with the built in OIS.
I'm an amatuer nature photographer. I love having the tele-macro option to avoid having to change lenses in the field. The lens is light but I am not concerned about that as much as performance. I bought it to replace a broken Sigma telemacro lens and was not pleased with the clarity either in the Macro or Zoom settings (just slightly off). It was REAL slow on AF which made capturing birds in flight difficult. Seems to require a good amount of light for it to reproduce color well. I am returning it and returning to Sigma. I'm happy for others who love the lens (whose raving reviews lead me to try it) but I was personally very disappointed expecting more out of Tamron. Definately would NOT recommend it to a friend.
I am a hobby photographer but i like having equipment that works well. This lense was a gift, but I can't spend on the cadillac versions but i want a reliable Chevy! I love outdoor nature photography but I'm also a mom with kids in sports, ice hockey and soccer at the moment. I like the durability and heft of this lens. it feels like you can handle it, no need to baby it. I feel the same way about my Tamron 18-200 lens. So far it's doing what I expect. It's been a while since I've had a 300mm so i'm getting used to it again. The macros funcion was a draw for me but it's not working the way i expected. I do need a bit more practice however! I'd recommend this lens as a good value, and a worth while addition to one's gear.
