Excellent kit. Very good sound and has given me the ability to archive my old taps onto usb and edit the music via audacity. Probably a bit to much hiss when recording onto tape though.Overall I am pretty happy with this hifi gear

AWESOME UNIT

I've been looking for a multiple function unit like this for quite awhile. My CD and Cassette deck players fell into a need for repair and I decided to just replace them with this unit as the budget finally allowed me to do so. This unit is awesome and we are enjoying it immensely! Highly recommend.

An all in one solution for legacy audio media.

You can use the CD-A580 to play or convert music from cassettes, CDs, and LPs (from the aux in) to mp3. The bit-rate is only 128, that's the reason why I only rate this product as 4 stars instead of 5. The cassette deck has electronic buttons vs mechanical buttons, and it automatically stopped when you reach the end of the tape when rewinding/forwarding, playing. It can record normal and CrO2 tapes, but not metal tape (It can play Metal tape). The deck does not offer any noise reduction (or Dolby B/C); but the playback quality is superb.

Erratic CD playback

Actually my First use was last nite. CD playback would irratically stop and quickly restart. Once, so far, it stopped playback for 10 seconds.Unacceptable proper basic operation of the unit upon outset of use.Thank you for your kind consideration, Ted B Duchac

Exceeded My Expectations

My component cassette and CD players, after a long and useful life, recently died. I needed replacements when discovering this TASCAN unit. Perfect. Connected it to my vintage Marantz tuner/amp (which is also connected to turntable and reel-to-reel). That meant I could dub old cassette tapes, reel-to-reel tape recordings, and vinyl onto a USB, plug the USB into my MacBook Pro and insert the tunes into my music library. From there, burn CDs or dub onto SD cards or simply enable Airplay to send a playlist downstairs through Apple TV to the amp and speakers there. Read the instructions for operation on the Tascam unit; they're simple. You will be astonished with the frequency response and low noise/harmonic distortion of this product. Well worth the price, too.

Just what I needed.

When preserving your old cassettes to digital or making new ones, dont go cheap--its not worth all the headaches. Yes the TASCAM CD-A580 is pricey when compared to others, but it is well built and gets the job done. Buttons feel solid and are responsive. No product is perfect for everyone so check out the specs carefully. My one wish for the A580 is that it would record CDs and not just play CDs (but then add $$$). See. Nothing is perfect.

My take on the Tascam CD-580

This is a good investment if you have a large Cd collection and also carry your music with you on a unit with a USB port. I was impressed by the 'largeness of the LCD display .You could clearly see which functions are currently played , along with brightly lit display counter When you press the power button , there is clunking sound that you will get used to. It may be the internal mechanisms engaging . Overall everything works well . My only dislike is the separate features and its buttons appear jumbled up. I would have preferred the CD, Cassette, and USB controls to be isolated in their own corner blocks and not laid out horizontally. Nevertheless, it does the job and does it well

Tascam: Reliable as always!

This is the unit I was looking for in a while, In still keep in good conditions many cassette's that I recorded many years ago. My old Pioneer player could not get repaired and many listed as used and in good condition in many websites were of no satisfaction. I decided to look for one that could transfer from one format to another. The sound is excellent and the unit looks amazing, If I were a Tascam Co. exec, I would design a unit that can have auto reverse / play on both sides. Just for the ones like me that value formats that are past of audio history.Thanks B & H for shipping this unit fast .

Transfer from tape, CD and Cassette to USB without cables!

I bought this deck admittedly not realizing its full capabilities. I expected to just hook come cables to the deck then to my computer, and all you need is a good USB drive. My project is transferring Cassette tapes to MP3, and the deck is awesome... allowing pitch control right on the unit and ability to save onto the USB. I added a small set of external speakers so I can monitor, and it has volume control on the front specific to the output.I have used this a few months now, and quality seems to stay stable despite running dozens of old tapes that may be starting to deteriorate. While the price is seemingly high for a cassette deck, if you need to archive memories from tape to MP3, or convert CD to MP3, this unit is priceless.

works fine but....

I've done some initial testing and this Tascam unit works fine. Haven't yet started the conversion process (for the reason I bought it for- digitizing my audio tape collection of Garrison Keillor's "Prairie Home Companion" radio show) but I'm disappointed in one major regard: I'm unable to use an external cassette deck. I hate being solely dependent on the cassette deck built into this unit. Still glad I bought it! Beaverton, Oregon 10-21-18
