The instruction manual is not written well and carefully so we waste so much time trying to figure out how to make it functionable. It takes away joy of listening to music. It gives you enough details, instrument placement is good, stage could be wider, but cannot ask too many things from a $3500 player. Basically, it sounds like $3-4000 player should be: definitely improved over G700 predecessor. Its competition is Marantz 30n SACD player. For its style, I would choose a Marantz. G700M2 front panel is not so attractive to me. Luxman CD-03X is a great competitor. It has Luxman sound. Even though it does not have SACD capability, you do not look for a SACD player to compensate. Its sound stands itself if you like the Luxman sound: great on the middle, detailed highs, strong bass (having a big transformer helps). Only weakness is its S/N being a bit low for me. It requires a good power cord. I am giving 2 stars for G700M2 (for its sound 4 stars), because it deprives me of enjoyment: every time I click on it, it reminds me of that. After I over come that, I am totally fine listening to it. For $3500, Technics should offer us better and detailed manual for everyone (10 years old to 90 years old...) than what we get today. It only gives us impression that Technics is CHEAP!
