Teenage Engineering PO-12 Pocket Operator Rhythm

I give it a 1 star, purely on the very poor instructions provided by the manufacturer. I just cant get it to work in the way that they describe!? As a novice to electronic music, I find this very frustrating. In concept, I love what it is and the pre-recorded beats/sounds are very promising, adding to my frustration. I will have to come back into the shop and seek some guidance from the good people at Manny's - after that, maybe I will change my opinion :)

A lightweight that hits above its weight

This piece of cardboard stocked with a clock transistor is capable of blowing your mind till to the drugs wear off and then some. Like even when the drugs wear off you will still be in a mindset to appreciate the extraordinary capabilities of this tiny house piece of gear. Can you say that of all your gear? A small drum machine that have some Kick!

I already had a few POs, and wanted to see where it all started. This drum machine may be small, but it packs A LOT!The sound won't be clean hi-fi, but rather has some characterful dirt and grit. Despite being deceptively simple, it's quite usable, sound great and comes with interesting performance effects and features. For the price, you can't ask for more!But don't be fooled: it's not a toy, and can fit perfectly in a mix or in for your sample collection.

Amazing foxtrot machine for plants

Whadya wan' for 60 euros? This. This lil' bee's sting right here. It'll stick a pointer up your b-ox and you will be able to set a bass line that kicks your genitalia--and everyone else's sexualised erotic neuronal pathways--like nobody's business. And ain't that what we want from music? Passion, pathos, tension/release, the whole bedroom in a box phenom, right? Yeah, if you want flowers light and breezy and clinique you can probably do that here, but if you want sex in every form from garbage to minima you would not do anybody any harm by bringing this boite with you at all times. It ain't gonna bites your breasts off like a Moog, but it will tickle your tiger in that bass chasing dog kinda way. You don't need the technical specs right? You can watch videos and boa constrictors talking all their lfo, high/low pass, Johnny cash bollox but what you wanna know at bottom is if the beast can crank out your inner child on acid. Am I right or am I right? Well this LSD driven danish dish is your death come to visit you with flowers. I know that's a bit strong, but how many machines are able to transcend the life-death barrier and come back and talk about it--or at least make a baseline out of it? You want life and death shenanigans you came to the right hole in the wall mr and missus.

Fun -good sound-flimsy

It sounds great thru my pa system. Built in speaker is no indication of how good it can sound. Limited sounds, hard to tweak in a live forum but fun with my monologue synth when synced. My main gripe is the battery holder. When removing the batteries, its very hard to get them out. This causes the pos/neg tabs on each end of the battery to get bent out of position. In order to use it with the new batteries I had to rebend the tabs multiple times to get good contact because its also hard to insert batteries. Dont know how many times the tabs can withstand the abuse. My next buy will be a korg volca instaed, spend the extra few bucks for a solid unit that will last.

This is the perfect price, size, sound, and simplicity for entry level rhythm programming. The 16-step sequencer is easy to use and its easy to visualize patterns. For novice drum programmers it's easy experiment with different patterns to try to match the rhythms you have been imagining in your head. The shuffle feature is really important here as you may or may not realize how much shuffle is needed to achieve the beat you are imagining. The sounds are not "classic" but they are unique and for that this device can stand on its own. Lastly, you can have a lot of fun with adding different effects to different parts of the pattern; it becomes really interesting when playing additional beats over top of an exiting pattern; the new beats are affected differently ... MoreThis is the perfect price, size, sound, and simplicity for entry level rhythm programming. More than a toy, Hip drum machine ever.

I usually play this in the subway and I really love it.this machine is enough to get inspiration! you can get ideas anywhere, anytime.In fact, if you compare it to another great synth,this machine does not really have a great possibility.But do you know? This is 'portable' and 'inexpensive'. It is not as expensive as "moog" .In other words,"It's not a musical instrument designed for performances or recordings!"Nevertheless, it does have very good features appropriately.I think teenage-engineering seems to know what the demands of customers wanting this kind of product!16bit-step-sequencer, built-in speaker, pattern management ....everything is enough! Review of Teenage Engineering PO-12 Rhythm Pocket Operator

I'm surprised at how good this is. I bought it to get some new sounds for jamming along to but there's so much more to it.It's really easy to use if you've ever played with a sequencer before but when you get into editing the sounds and building more complicated beats it gets even more fun.No idea where the onboard speaker is, its spooky. But plugged into an amp it sounds ace.

There's more to the PO-12 than it seems...

When plugged in, you will be surprised that much sound is coming from something so tiny and so well engineered. Once I was familiar with the controls and how to control the sounds it makes, I could string along patterns in such a way that made everything flow in a very organic and calculated way. Speaking for myself, being able to chain my pre programmed patterns together was what turned this from a nifty little drum machine that filled up my lunch breaks into a reliable and very useful tool I could use with any other device. For what it is, it's a terrific and enjoyable drum machine! I do wish I had a bit more control over pitch and modulation with some of the sounds but it's far from a deal breaker. I am a guitar player and I use them to build small jam along tunes or, rarely, perform small live electronic sets for friends. Once you learn to use them, they are a simple and fast way to create music without relying to a computer (wich I am not a fan of).This one is really a powerful, probably the most powerful, pocket operator. It is also the most complicated to learn (but not by much) and it has great expressive possibilities. And you can back up them!They say audio quality is low... that this is only a toy... not for professional use... then they spend a fortune for a vintage casio sk (a vintage toy synth of course) just because some famous artist used it. Just let me play with my new toy and shut up.
