I already had a few POs, and wanted to see where it all started. This drum machine may be small, but it packs A LOT!The sound won't be clean hi-fi, but rather has some characterful dirt and grit. Despite being deceptively simple, it's quite usable, sound great and comes with interesting performance effects and features. For the price, you can't ask for more! But don't be fooled: it's not a toy, and can fit perfectly in a mix or in for your sample collection.

I know that's a bit strong, but how many machines are able to transcend the life-death barrier and come back and talk about it--or at least make a baseline out of it? Intuitive experimental gadget just short of greatness
24 October 2018

Straight out of the box you can start to have great fun scannning through built-in sounds. The Step editor and the real time are intuitive and you get usable patches in seconds. Unfortunately (and this is the real bug-bear) the built in sampler is grainy, even with direct line-in, and samples sound scratchy and too quiet to be heard against the built in sounds. Which is a shame. If the sampler had a higher sample rate I really would call it an essential piece of studio equipment. As it is, it is a nice gadget to have on-the-go, on the bus or whatever, just limited to the sixteen or so on-board sounds. Fix that sampler and you will have a product that is an essential piece of equipment for any studio

Just an Amazing Sampler w/ Quality Drum Machine

I got this Teenage Engineering PO35 Speak Vocal Synth after seeing several demos and reviews on YouTube and was quite impressed. (I also bought the PO33 KO at the same time for the same reason)Now that I've had it 2 weeks I am amazed at what it can do as I am with the KO. This is another addictive little machine. It is a great addition to my entire Synthesizer setup which consists of a Digitone, Moog Matriarch, Hydrasynth, 2 PolyChained Skulpt SE's and Behringer Model D, Neutron, K2 and Pro1. As well as my Gretsch Drum Kit, and Fender Tele and Jazz Bass which I have been sampling sounds from.I have been wanting to add a Synth Sampler but just didn't want something that would take up a lot of space or be too costly especially since I feel Samplers by their very ... MoreI got this Teenage Engineering PO35 Speak Vocal Synth after seeing several demos and reviews on YouTube and was quite impressed. The built in Microphone is surprisingly good quality. 120 seconds of Sample Memory is quite adequate. The 8 Effects are very useful. The Drum Machine Presets are very good quality and the ability to get replaceable drum sounds with Microtonic is a great feature.I do recommend getting a case for it not only to protect it but also a case makes it much nicer to work with as it gives it a better form factor in your hands or on your Workstation. I chose to get a Rev5 case from Dich Studios. The offer them in Color Schemes that match the PO's. and they work with or without the HangtagLastly you really can't beat the price for this much technology in a nice small package.

One of the best Pocket Operators
18 August 2020

Ignore the one-star review on here. That guy didn't know what he was buying. It's like saying I bought this toaster to jumpstart my car, and it is HUGELY ineffective.I don't have the PO-35 Speak, but I have the PO-137 Rick & Morty (purchased from B&H Photo), which is 99% the same thing. This Vocal Synthesizer Pocket Operator from Teenage Engineering can do a LOT more than it appears on the surface. Pair this with the PO-33 K.O! sampler and you've got a really powerful music-making setup. Highly recommended.

One of the coolest things to carry around!
9 February 2022

I take this thing everywhere and rather than pull out my phone and let my brain rot, I start jamming on this and keep the creative side of my brain flowing! There is a little bit of a learning curve, but once you get all the basics down, it is nothing but fun! Time to make your own little Daft Punk jams!My buddy gave me a case for it (the red silicone one made by teenage engineering) and that makes it really comfy to carry. I would strongly recommend getting one of those at the same time.

Review of Teenage Engineering PO-35 Speak Pocket Operator
9 May 2022

Lots of fun. It's pretty intuitive to use, and you can really manipulate all the sounds you record to create some interesting, unique beats. It's obviously relatively limited in what it can do, but this limitation is part of its appeal and actually aids creativity. Great value for money, and I think the Speak model is one of the most fun POs, in its ability to enable you to manipulate vocals in such a hands-on way.

The PO-35 is generous in productivity for the value and size and not having to build it myself.
16 January 2019

It has all kinds of sounds and the voice recording with auto-tune is cool. The bpm knob is cool. The recording and writing functions are fun. The 16 tones with 16 sounds and 16 arrhythmias of the same beat or tune are cool. I just couldn't help but mess with this device, it's not only really cool looking and entertaining, it's a cut above and has enough functions to compete with larger boards that have more buttons. It's truly a pocket of fun. I also didn't have to build it myself with plugs or arduino wires, micro boards, and shields. Thanks. J. Twilley

Just let me play with my new toy and shut up.
