I really prefer not to feed my fish flakes. It makes them take in air when they go up to the top to eat them which is not good for them. Sometimes I make them my own food at home with Hikari blends they have great product great recipes. I often feed them blood worms, I like to give them different selections throughout the week and switch it up so they get all the nutrients they need - which they DO NOT get from only flakes. I actually hate fish flakes.

This is a great starter goldfish food. I normally mixed this up with other flake foods at I felt this didn’t have enough nutrients for it on the daily so mixing other foods to it made my good fish super happy. Only downside I saw using only this food made the water dirty faster. Mixing it helped control that issue.

This Tetra product is all we ever used to feed Geoffrey, our goldfish. We changed the bulb for a while he lost his gold. He was a teeny, tiny fish about an inch long when we got him. He has outlived the other fishes he really needs a bigger tank! The food is great as you can see !

I don't have fishies anymore but I used to have a 10 gallon aquarium with multiple fish. This was the only food I was feeding my fish. Their color were bright. All my fish were healthy. Good food. Would recommend!
So I have two goldfish that I’m currently using for a fish in cycle for what will be my axolotls permanent tank and I breed Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. All of them eat Tetra goldfish flakes (the roaches obviously get other foods as well but the fish flakes help up their protein intake to make molting easier). The minute I put them in the fish tank, the fish come flying up to eat them. The minute I put them in the roach tank, roaches come running (see the baby in the picture?). I’ve tried others brands of goldfish flakes and my animals will only eat the Tetra brand. We’d definitely be in trouble without them.
Might be a coincidence or just a bad container but I had two completely healthy fish die after eating this, So if you do feed them this, monitor them. I have inverts that seem to have a positive reaction to the flakes so I'll just feed it to them. I gave it 2 stars because while it did kill two of my fish, my inverts seem to enjoy it as a treat.I've used Tetra products before and this is the first negative experience. I still recommend Tetra in general but maybe just not this specific food.
While I'd like to say this is a fine product, there are a few glaring reasons otherwise.Number one, it uses wheat to as a binding agent. Goldfish (especially fancy goldfish) should never eat wheat in food, because their bodies are not adapted to it and they can die early because of that.Secondly, flakes are terrible fish food! Not only are they bound with wheat, but unless your fish are very fast to get them, they sink, dissolve, and cause your tank to be very dirty very quickly. Your fish doesn't get the proper nutrients, and now it's water is polluted. But let's say that you DO have fast fish, and they make it up there in time to eat it. The chances of swallowing air with fish flakes is much higher than pellet or gel food. The chances of swallowing air with fish flakes is much higher than pellet or gel food. This can mess up your fish's digestive system, by causing constipation, or mess with it's swim bladder (easily fixable, but still. You don't want to put the little dudes through that :-( ).Like I mentioned before, there are better options. Pellet food will work if you don't have the time to make the food yourself (which you can buy on this website as well), but I'd reccomended making your own gel food. Depending on the recipe and how well you know what you're doing, it could only take 30 minutes to make a big batch that will last a while.Hope this was helpful!! Keep your fishies healthy :-)
I have a large-ish urban pond. The original stock are feeder goldfish. Raccoons permitting, I often have some pretty large fish from year to year (they overwinter with the help of a pond heater to clear a hole in the ice). Mostly they eat algae, pond plants, bugs, etc. But every morning spring-summer-fall we have the turning on of the waterfall and the feeding of the flakes ritual. Water begins to splash down and fish race from the deep end for The Flakes, poking their noses up and jockeying for position. During Covid I tried other flakes, etc, when this product was unavailable. No go. They would just let it float. It's part of the ritual more than the food, I think, and they like Tetra Flakes in the orange container when the human comes to greet and count them each ... MoreI have a large-ish urban pond. Our goldfish Bowie (he has one funny eye) is the sole survivor of our 10 gallon tank. Many a fish has come and gone in this tank; some more exotic and beautiful, some more seemingly intelligent, and yes, some less annoying. Bowie has even survived King Froggy, who moved with us years ago to the new town. How has Bowie survived? How has he lived through this tank’s ups and downs, various phases of cleanings, water replacements, population additions and subtractions? Indeed, how has he not only managed to survive, but also to live well and even thrive? How has he grown through the years to may we say immense proportions, even almost as large as the tank itself?!The answer is simple. Bowie has been fed, and overfed, a steady diet of TetraFin Plus Goldfish Flakes. ... MoreOur goldfish Bowie (he has one funny eye) is the sole survivor of our 10 gallon tank. How has he grown through the years to may we say immense proportions, even almost as large as the tank itself?!The answer is simple. Bowie has been fed, and overfed, a steady diet of TetraFin Plus Goldfish Flakes. Each day we walk in, and there’s Bowie - gazing at me expectantly with his funny eye, splashing around, waving his fins to get my attention - he wants his flakes!! As we dump them in the tank, he comes to the surface to greedily gulp them down, doing a Michael Jackson backpedal as the food pours in. For only having a memory of six seconds, this goldfish sure does know it’s food time. After Bowie has noisily slurped the food from the surface, he dives and swims and catches the falling TetraFin Plus Goldfish Flakes on their way down. He then stirs the bottom with his tail and fins, and stirs up and scours the remains. For several minutes afterward we hear him smashing into the rocks headfirst to dislodge and devour every speck of every flake as if it’s his last meal. What exactly is the Plus of these TetraFin Goldfish Flakes? We’re not exactly sure, but Bowie surely intuitively knows. He loves them, and we love feeding them to him. We are grateful he is happy with this food, and he is surely grateful to be fed. Tonight as he receives more we will remember this review as we watch him dance and swim. And we will be happy as well.
seen someones comment tank is cloudy that means your over feeding. also use distilled water. had my goldfish a year, same food, he has grown a lot. added second fish to tank. food must be healthy they are growing. last a very kong time only takes a pinch of food per day
