Included with your purchase of the calculator is a cover. The cover easily slides on and off the front which protects the screen from damage while you're carrying it around, but it also slides on the back for easy storage while you are utilizing the calculator's designed purpose: to calculate.The only complaint I have with the calculator is the hefty price. But, like I said, I've been using it for six years now and haven't had any problems with it. The calculator has served its purpose, and continue to serve for many years. The price is high, but it's well worth it. I would hate to do all the calculations in my AP Stats class by hand. I'm grateful to the calculator for providing me with answers in my time of need. I'm grateful to Texas Instruments for their dedicated service and research that had produced such a great product. I recommend this calculator to anyone who is searching for a better life.

A decent product, with a plethora of features!

I have used this product for a month and I am satisfied with how responsive it is to the input commands. I have not tinkered with the included USB mini cable but it is good to know that there is a wide range of extra functionality available to install for it. This device enters sleep mode automatically, which is a lifesaver considering that it runs on battery power. I am a satisfied customer and look forward to discovering more of its features.

I say in a comparison manner because roughly a year ago I had the then (and I believe still) latest graphing calculator from Casio, mainly for the price of roughly $50, but also because I still have a scientific calculator from Casio that I love. It’s ability to graph is both more limited and more complicated to fully understand. Simply not nearly as user friendly. Meanwhile back in the mid to late 90’s I had a TI-83 (standard version) graphing calculator that was great and easy to operate and understand, once initially learned that is. So basically I gave up on solid progress with the Casio graphing calculator and switched to one of the better & current models of graphing calculators from Texas Instruments, specifically the TI-84 Plus CE. While more advanced than my old TI-83 much of programming it for graphing equations remains largely the same, making for an easy to adapt transition from old to new. I’ve only had it about a week so far, so I can’t speak on anything long term, but initial impressions are great and well above what I was expecting. Perhaps more costly than Texas Instruments current basic graphing calculator with their TI-83 Plus model, but a rechargeable battery and color screen certainly go a long way in helping justify the added expense. Would absolutely recommend for either a student or someone who like me is way into mathematics.

Classic Graphing Calculator for High School Math

This was a used unit. It arrived quickly and in excellent condition, and perfect working order. I bought this graphing calculator because my grandson is using one in high school, and I wanted to be able to help him with his studies. The calculator is mostly useful for math instruction at the high school level, and is one of the models acceptable for use at the SAT's. It is not exactly intuitive to use, but there are a lot of YouTube videos to help. I don't find it all that useful for regular calculator use, however. I mostly use a much simpler, less expensiveTI-30 calculator for that purpose. Or, of course, my more complex math there are the online sites like Wolfram.

Does what it's supposed to. Rechargeable battery

Love that this guy is rechargeable. Haven't had to recharge it yet at all, but it's a good feature instead of having to worry about batteries failing during a test or a late night homework session. You can view battery status on-screen, so you'd know to charge it before a test if needed.Everything functions as it's supposed to. It does a lot more than I'd ever need it for (calculus stuff). It DID take me a little bit to get familiar with it as I hadn't used a calculator like this in over 20 years. The color screen is great when looking at different functions at the same time, whether it's piecewise or just differentiations.I know there's a Casio out there that does pretty much identical things, but I've always trusted TI, and it seems most universities do as well.

Great upgrade from my older TI calculators

I bought this to replace an aging TI-83 I had picked up from Goodwill, which itself replaced an ancient TI-85 I had in college. This was actually for my daughter, so I'm not the main user, but I've worked with it when helping her with homework.The calculator is fairly expensive, so if possible, you should wait for a good sale around Back To School season, and/or take advantage of price matching the product.As for functionality, it's a TI calculator aimed toward Algebra and PreCalc/Trigonometry classes. For more engineering oriented or advanced Calculus, you should probably look into a TI-89 or N-Spire series. It has a basic equation solver (though that ability is shoe-horned into its UI, so it isn't the easiest to work with). It is programmable and comes with a few apps, plus the ability to download more from your computer (or another TI calculator). Neither I nor my daughter have used any of that functionality, though, so I can't review it.I love the color screen. When graphing multiple equations, it makes tracing the intercepts much easier on the eyes. The backlit screen also makes it easier to see in dim situations.Overall, it's another great step for TI calculators, though most of the functions can be replaced with a smartphone. The major advantage for this or most TI calculators is that they are allowed in class and during most standardized tests (AP, SAT, ACT), while phones are not.

I WAS concerned about the price but Staples had a wonderful 37% sale that reduced the price down to the cost of the Casio. So I purchased the TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator and I’m so glad I did! I gained more apps, a more popular operating system, better hardware like rechargeable batteries and a color screen! TI also allows me to enter a fractions, exponents, and radical expressions or powers as they appear written in my textbook. The TI-84 comes with a lithium ion rechargeable battery so I won’t have to replace it but just charge my TI-84 Plus CE at the wall. If you consider purchasing the Casio fx 9750GII, understand that: the display for integrals, exponents and fractions will look different. The Casio uses ^ for exponents and / for fractions. The whole system felt very crammed. It was confusing because Casio allows only fit 3-4 letters on each menu item and there is no way to tell what the abbreviations mean. The Casio is powered by 4 AAA batteries adding significant weight to the calculator.

The TI-84 Plus CE is considered the gold standard for non-CAS applications (i.e., for education), but I was really after the brand-new Python upgrade (for scripting) which was either sold out already or was being marked up in price by 25%+ from various online retailers. However, based on a very recent product review on staples.com, I took the chance and ordered this calculator hoping I would receive the Python version, although it was neither specifically pictured nor referenced on the product page. Turns out I bet correctly...got the Python version, and even got it on sale. I'm guessing that Staples did not know that the newest/upgraded TI-84 Plus CE Python had made it into their supply chain system yet. But, order this calculator from somewhere if you need it, as the TI-84 Plus CE is one of the best you can buy strictly for educational purposes. And it will last you for years in functionality, as the OS is upgradeable/patchable, and there are also individual apps that can be downloaded. This is enabled by the included USB cables (of various flavors) and connecting to a PC or laptop. Although a USB wall adapter is not included, the calculator is rechargeable by a PC, laptop, or dedicated USB charger. The screen is of a relatively high resolution (for good readability) and color-enabled (thus the 'CE' designation) and the color schemes can be personalized to taste. The individual keys are not highly reflective and thus easy to read, and are actually rather large and well-spaced, which makes hitting the wrong button a little less likely. Regarding physical size...while this is a rather large device by height/width-wise, it is very thin and easily hand-held. Finally, it comes with a protective cover which seems quite functional. Shipping from Staples was very quick.CONS: I'm not thrilled by the price, as I believe that TI (and many retailers from what I've seen recently) takes advantage of the educational market. Also, for such a device that is physically large in surface area, this thing is very nearly weightless, which may negatively speak to some aspect of durability and/or quality over time.

This is the right calculator for the SAT or FCAT.

I was so happy to find this on sale. My son’s school didn’t tell us which calculator to buy u til school had already started. So, the used ones were all sold. I was grateful to see Office Depot running a sale, and I could use my rewards dollars to offset the cost.This TI 84 plus CE came with a charging cable and the hard cover to protect the screen. He took it to school and the 10th grade algebra2 teacher says that this is the same calculator he will be using from now until he finishes college. This is the one for the SAT and the FCAT.

not a python model :(

I am disappointed because I didn’t get a python model as advertised. It’s strange because even the barcode sticker says it’s the python but I just got the PLUS CE version. I am bewildered reading the reviews and seeing how some people got the regular version and some got python. Seems like there is a discrepancy in the labeling and shipping or whoever is labeling them is doing them incorrectly. But besides that it works well and just what I needed. It is WAY faster than my old TI-84 PLUS and I love the color screen. Super helpful for graphing functions and discerning the different graphs. I also like that it shows the battery so I know when I should start charging again.
