It's a card game where players work together to put absurd answers in the right order. In true Exploding Kittens style, weÕre giving you the canvas to have an amazing time with your family and friends. It requires equal parts creativity and absurdity, and your success hinges on how well you understand everyoneÕs sense of humor. To play That Escalated Quickly, read out a simple question (ex. IÕm locked in a tiny room. What else is locked in here with me from cutest to scariest). Then everyone is assigned a secret number from one to ten. Next, each player answers the question, and the intensity of that answer is based on their secret number (ex. 1= a bunny, 10= a grizzly bear with chainsaw arms.) Finally, the person who read the question has to try and sort those answers into the correct order. If they get it right, everyone wins! This game is hilarious, energetic, and a great way to get to know your friends and family a little bit better.

A game that incited both fun, laughter, and all out war!

SO, let me start by saying I have never laughed so hard while playing a game as I have with That Escalated Quickly. It may be my favorite party game for that fact alone. It plays quickly and I like that it requires a certain level of imagination on everyone's part. So many games are simply the same thing over and over... roll a dice, move a meeple, react to an event trigger... wash, rinse, repeat. This game really challenges you to know your audience and the way they think and come up with clever responses that you believe will correlate to their way of thinking. That all being said, choose who you play with carefully. I've got a few hypercompetitive in-laws who became very opinionated on the imagination based segments of the game. "Why would you think that is worst that this? This is way worst than that" UGH! Like come on Katrina, no one cares if you would be more scared of a crocodile with a banjo than a bear with a cello. Anyways, despite my sister-in-law, go get this game! It is super fun.

Every week a motley group gets together for Souper Tuesday (because we have soup and we are super and it's on a Tuesday). I finally got a chance to bust out this game and play it - It was great! Fairly easy set up - a fairly quick start and even though we had a wide range of ages, humor, and game-playing experience - by round 3 we were really having fun. It took us a few rounds to get the hang of it, but it's worth it. A little clunky to word the Least to Best scale each time, but not terrible to figure out. It's great for all kinds of people to be able to play - we have a range of over the top show monkeys to pretty quiet folks and we were all able to collaborate and have a great time.

Great Casual Fun!

We played with tow players and with 5 players, both were lots of fun. This game definitely has to range to go anywhere your creativity takes you, but that also means you have to be creative in your answers! The special rules were playable for two but definitely a game better played with a larger group. Can only imagine how much more chaotic and potentially difficult it would be in a group of 8. Coming up with answers when you're at the extremes of the scale is pretty straightforward, less so when you're a 4 or 6. The container didn't need to be so large for 2 and some decks of cards...A good quick party game that can easily lead to 2 or 3 replays immediately after.

Great quick game!
12 July 2024

We play-tested this game with 5 people, 3 adults and 2 teenagers. I was initially worried about the level of spontaneity and improv required, but it was not an issue at all. The questions are fun and the whole group got really creative immediately. We were laughing out loud pretty continuously throughout the several rounds that we played. We had at least one card that was really tricky to rank, but we were able to successfully rank the majority of the cards every time. This game is really fun, and very easy to play a couple quick rounds!

Great quick game! Minimal setup makes it very portable
17 February 2024

Our family enjoyed playing this game a lot! Due to the fact that there is very little to setup and a relatively easy concept of play, we were able to play it almost immediately. Even our 10 year old got the hang of it rather quickly! The game doesn’t take long to play and gets more challenging with more players. Can’t wait to play it in a party setting! Highly recommend!

Super fun and we learned a lot about each other
27 February 2024

We played That Escalated Quickly at our local coffee shop and had a blast!! It took us a couple of rounds to comprehend the rules (as it usually does 🤪). We loved the concept of trying to read the minds of the others in a diverse group. I’m a “the answer is right in front of me *grab*” person and my friend is a “let me consider all options from all over the multiverse” person so our rankings were quite diverse!!Minimal disappointment: it would have been nice to have a little card stand for the question card.Ultimately it was great to make our brains work and if you’re down for that THIS is your game!!

That escalated quickly... and so did our blood pressure levels

That Escalated Quickly is fantastic game -- my entire group has enjoyed every minute we've played of it.The basis of this game is about thinking of specific situations which fall onto a scale of 1-10 given by a card (both on the extremes of that scale, as well as in-between), where everyone is tasked with then ordering the severity of those situations, but only 1 person makes the final decisions. That may sound strange at first, but oh boy is this a *fantastic* recipe. You'll find yourselves arguing with vibrant passion over why the X on treasure island is either the easiest or hardest place to find on Earth, whether your computer imploding is more ridiculous than your parents calling about how to change their desktop, and many, many other topics. This game is ... MoreThat Escalated Quickly is fantastic game -- my entire group has enjoyed every minute we've played of it.The basis of this game is about thinking of specific situations which fall onto a scale of 1-10 given by a card (both on the extremes of that scale, as well as in-between), where everyone is tasked with then ordering the severity of those situations, but only 1 person makes the final decisions. The game also functions very well for adding house rules. Want everyone to theme their answers from the POV of Star Wars characters? Go right ahead! Want to crank the difficulty to 11 and force everyone to mime their answers? That's doable as well! The game is easily adaptable to any group of players and wants they have. You can even ignore the win/lose condition of the game if everyone's just having fun.I think the only negative about the game is that sometimes it can take a bit of time for the first person to think of an answer, but this could easily be remedied with a loose house rule that players should answer within roughly 30 seconds or something. Otherwise, this is a solid recommendation to pick the game up and try it out. 11/10 experience.

The Name Says It All
17 February 2024

Our family had a fun time playing a few rounds of That Escalated Quickly. The gameplay started a little shaky for our 13-year-old since you do have to be somewhat creative while crafting a scenario that fits into the question, but by the end of the first round we realized it was equal parts coming up with something and anxiety around ruining the round for the group. The cards we got to play were funny as I'd expect from an Exploding Kittens game, and playing with two teenagers with limited filters made it even funnier. We are looking forward to both trying it with a smaller group with the modified rules, and a full size group.

The best family party game ever - crying laughing!
7 January 2024

This game is crazy fun. Played over the holidays with extended family with kids and adults ranging from 11 to 76 and had a blast. We have every game and this is the one that everyone wanted to play. I’ve never laughed so hard, literally crying as my mother-in-law shared how she would convince a vampire to bite her so she could become his eternal partner. Only 8 can play, so we were fighting each night as to who would get a prized spot. Played for 2 hours each night. Bravo EK!

Will become a Game Night staple
16 February 2024

This game is easy to play quickly - no complicated rules, so everyone can play as soon as the game is opened without having to endure boring explanations. As play goes on, creativity really kicks in, and that is when the fun really begins. We have lots of laughs while playing this one! The only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is because it is a little hard to play with a wide range of ages at once. We found the game best played with all adults or all kids, but not necessarily a mix of both.
