The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D Game 3DS (Selects)

This is the best game ever made (literally and my personal opinion). I started playing this game as a kid and still have the original version I play from time to time. This games story is like none other - Link, a young boy who must save Hyrule from Ganondorf but is too young to take this on. So he must "travel through time" to become an adult and take on the quest. The game has plenty of fun, creative and challenging temples/levels. There are side quests that tell you more about the setting of Hyrule and it's characters. You will love this game and fall in love with not only the characters but the story!! I highly recommend this game to anyone!

Great story, characters, SONGS, dungeons, combat and world. Remastered for the 3DS, this game is well worth more than $20! This game is so touching and magical, there’s nothing like Ocarina of Time. I look back fondly on the memories I made playing OoT. P.S. I hate the water level though.

A Great Remake

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was an OK game for the N64. I didn't really enjoy it too much and I didn't believe it deserved all the praise it got but it was a revolutionary title in the Zelda franchise. However, the Nintendo 3DS remake is a way better experience. The new visuals, gyroscope aiming, and inventory management really make this remake a whole lot better than the original. It sounds good, the controls are good, and the classic music throughout the game really sell it. The game also comes with the more challenging Master Quest, a version of the game that is mirrored, has different dungeon layout, and you take more damage. The horse race for Epona is still very challenging. If you just touch Ingo's horse, you slow down and it doesn't help that Ingo has infinite spurs. The other thing is how the inventory is handled. The actual inventory is good but I keep wanting to press START to go into it when you have to press a tab on the touch screen. My final complaint I will list is that the map is on the top screen on the corner when it can be on the bottom screen and be bigger and show more detail than the worldmap that is on the bottom screen. All in all if your a returning fan of Ocarina of Time or a new comer to the 3D Zelda scene or new to Zelda in general, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is worth it.

A kinda lazy remake with only a little bit of notable new content.

The visuals also detract from the experience because it makes you realize some of the flaws in the original game like, for example, how creepily empty a good portion of the game is despite Hyrule supposedly being a thriving country. It looks nice but the improved visuals don't really add anything to the experience. If you want a good example of how improved visuals can enhance a remake, refer to my review on the Resident Evil Remake for the Gamecube. There really is not too much new content in this game either. They added a boss rush mode, which is a nice addition, and I'm happy that this is slowly becoming a regular thing in Zelda games. Once you beat the game you also unlock "Master Quest" which is the same game but with brand new puzzles set on a much higher difficulty. Back in 2002, this was a preorder gift for the Wind Waker and a lot of people, including myself, missed out on it so it's nice that they included it in the game especially since it now costs up to 100 bucks here on eBay. While these are good additions, they feel tacked on which isn't good for a game that Nintendo has already rereleased 3 times before in the past in 2002 (Master Quest), 2003 (Zelda Collection), and 2007 (Virtual Console). In the end, Ocarina of time is an amazing game but if you've been playing video games for as long as I have, you've probably already played it to completion close into double digits. Everybody raves about the original, and for good reason, but this game is merely a remake with some slight differences. I would really only recommend this remake if you've never played the original before or if you feel that you absolutely have to play Master Quest. If you simply want to relive Ocarina of Time, I would recommend getting this on the Wii's virtual console for 10 bucks instead.

Best 2D Zelda

A Link Between worlds is unexpectedly the best 2D Zelda. I like lttp but I feel like other zeldas do what it does better, its not my favorite thats all. I loved links awakening, so it was hard to decide. But this is such a masterpiece. Narrative, gameplay, the rental system. I love how Ravio uses the rabbit reference from Lttp cleverly, it feels so natural. I like the idea of renting weapons, even if I just grind rupees and buy them anyway. The mechanics of the rentals, lorule, and painting link are some of the best in the series. A Link Between Worlds is a masterpiece, and the best game on the 3DS, highly recommend!!!

The Definitive Experience

I remember playing this originally on the Nintendo 64; back in 1998. Fast forward to 2020. 22 years later. Finding out that Nintendo rereleased it on the 3DS; fully remastered, with updated graphics, and a smoother control scheme, I had to get this for my 2DS XL. And allow me to tell you, this is absolutely astounding how well this title was handled. They really took great care to ensure that practically everything was left intact. The music: as emotive as ever. The graphics: absolutely stunning as to how they were able to enhance the way the world, characters, and objects look. Everything looks bright, crisp, and new. It's even better than the N64 original. The controls: Two words: Spot on. extremely responsive. no slow down. very... natural. Please if you haven't already purchased it, do yourself a favor and add this to your library. You surely will not regret it.

There is really nothing like watching an enemys arrow fly straight through your consoles screen, while dodging an ill-willed spear lunging straight towards you. Despite this exciting feature, gamers should use the 3D cautiously; playing for long periods of time can seriously hinder or blur your vision. In addition, the consoles gyroscope function can occasionally cause the view of the game to falter. Luckily, the circle pad can be used as an alternative to the gyroscope, which can quickly and easily be turned off. While Nintendo gave the graphics a complete overhaul, they left the legendary soundtrack virtually untouched, which once again proves their mastery of past and present. While I personally believe there is no such thing as a bad Zelda game, none of the franchises subsequent entries could match the fluidity of OoTs excellent lock-on system, which returns untouched in this fantastic update, along with a much less irritating Navi. Of course gamers can expect the memorable cast of characters from the original OoT, alongside the original epic quest, which can take close to 30 hours to complete in its entirety. However, if that isnt enough for you, Nintendo has packed in the Master Quest, a much more difficult version of the game, which unlocks at the end of your first playthrough. Whether youre riding through Hyrule Field on Epona, or chasing Ganondorf through time with the power of the Ocarina, Nintendo proves that the game which defined an entire generation is still as fresh and entertaining as it was 13 years ago.

The Perfect "First Game" & The Perfect "First Zelda Game"

While part of that is nostalgia driven, this game is generally a great game! Great story, great game play, has a good, but fair challenge (it's super easy after you've beaten the game 50+ times). Too easy, no more item discovery difficult in nonsense ways like mini games

It's a very good game, it's very difficult to mess up a Zelda game (unless you're Philips CDI.) Though, there are many problems. I am not going to say it's a terrible game, it isn't, but it just isn't a Zelda game. I have played almost every Zelda game ever made, and I can say with certainty Zelda has taken the fun out of collecting items. The whole collection thing was the best part of it. I just got all of the game's items up front from 'renting' it with the only stigma being that if you lose, you lose your items. This is quite simply unacceptable from a game franchise who's claim to fame was the classic fanfare and getting special items. Gone are those days. Nintendo has stopped catering to gamers, especially hardcore gamers, and are now catering to just about anybody. THIS is why Nintendo is struggling. I only recommend this game for people who only want a lazy, casual experience and do not want any real challenge. I feel this way about most modern Nintendo games, including Mario galaxy and skyward sword, as well. As long as people keep giving mindless positive reviews about mediocre games, that's all we are ever going to get. Video games are more than visuals, they are about gameplay. Not everyone should immediately get to play a video game, it should take practice and skill. To this day I am still adept at the legend of Zelda ocarina of time's horseback archery, due to having to practice a very long time. They have taken away the pride of accomplishment. I think if we just keep lavishing these games with top scores for no reason, we're never going to see a good Zelda game again.

The original Ocarina of Time was created for the Nintendo 64, which allowed the gameplay to revolve around the player sitting down and dedicating a good chunk of time to playing. A handheld console like the 3DS allows gameplay to revolve around short gaming sessions and short bursts of plot and story, this does not mesh well with Ocarina of Time. You should not purchase this game.
