The shampoo cleaned well after using a large amount of product. It does not lather or disperse well. It made my hair feel a little "straw-like" which I did not like at all considering that my hair has always been ridiculously healthy. I must say that the conditioner worked well without having to use as much product compared to the shampoo. It left my hair soft and clean. Not greasy or oily like other conditioners can make it feel. For the scalp treatment, I have not noticed any effects what so ever after using for a few weeks. I'm hopefull that it does work for others. Although I am an avid user of The Ordinarys other products, unfortunately I will personally not be purchasing any of these particular items myself.

I received these products for free from Influenster and The Ordinary in exchange for my honest review. I was excited to try this because the shampoo doubles as a body cleanser and thought it would be convenient to cut down on products during my bathing routine. The cleanser was a bit too thin runny in my opinion, and poured too quickly, reminding me of hand sanitizer. It didn’t lather up very well and even though I have thin hair I felt like I had to use more product than my normal brand to get my hair completely covered. There was a slight chemical smell to the cleanser and although my hair felt soft and clean - it did not smell clean afterwards. It smelled like nothing, which would be great for those who are bothered by scents, but I prefer at least a light, fresh ... MoreI received these products for free from Influenster and The Ordinary in exchange for my honest review. Using it as a body cleanser will most likely be how I utilize this. My skin looked brighter, felt super soft, and wasn’t dried out after my shower. I found it is best applied all over your body by hand, then use a loofah or washcloth to wash. Applying directly to a loofah or washcloth wasn’t ideal in my experience, as it required more product to adequately clean.

I will begin with what I didn't like about the product just to get that out of the way first. The packaging is reminiscent of the bottles you get in the hospital with a very clinical look. Also there is absolutely no scent. Now I realize that is a huge selling point for many with sensitivities to fragrance but I am one of those people that digs shampoo smell so I missed that right away in the shower and once again it made The Ordinary Shampoo come across as very medicinal instead of sudsy and fun. Just something to be aware of. Now for what I loved about The Ordinary Shampoo. The formulation itself worked wonders on my longish, fine hair. Just something to be aware of. Now for what I loved about The Ordinary Shampoo. The formulation itself worked wonders on my longish, fine hair. I think they have actually reached the perfect equilibrium with the 4% sulphate because it provides just enough lather to feel cleansed and clean but not so much where your scalp and hair feels abruptly stripped of all protective sebum. I would even guess those who have sulphate concerns might be okay using this shampoo every once in a while because of the low sulphate. As far as it also being a body wash, it works fine for that but once again I do prefer scented body wash. If you were traveling or camping it would be one less bottle to schlep along with you. Overall loved The Ordinary Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Body and Hair formulation except for the minor drawbacks mentioned.
I was so excited to receive The Ordinary Vox Box. In it came: the Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Body and Hair, the Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner, and the Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA Serum. This review will be for the cleanser (basically shampoo). To give some history on my hair, I am in my thirties and have been dying my hair since I was about 16-years old. I have both colored my hair at home and at the salon. I've also been using heat (blow dryer, flat iron) on my hair for years. Doing both of these things has left my hair extremely damaged and I have even actually been struggling with hair fallout when brushing my hair and cleansing it in the shower. Doing both of these things has left my hair extremely damaged and I have even actually been struggling with hair fallout when brushing my hair and cleansing it in the shower. It is currently dyed black (boxed dye). The texture, which was once thick, I would say is now medium, bordering on thin. It is extremely long, down my back, resting right above my backside. It is naturally straight. When first using the cleanser, I was surprised at how runny and thin it was. It almost seemed like a super cheap, watery gel instead of a shampoo. I was a little hesitant to use it. But boy, am I glad I did. I used just two dollop-sized amounts. One dollop I focused on my scalp and the other dollop I ran through my ends. This product is fragrance-free so unfortunately I can't comment on the scent while washing. Another important thing to note is this product does NOT leather like the regular shampoo you may be used to does. This may lead people to think it doesn't clean the hair but how much a product lathers or doesn't actually has nothing to do with how well it cleans the hair. This is a common myth. How much a product lathers or doesn't usually has to do with the amount of ingredients and what ingredients are in the product. This cleanser has very few ingredients so I believe that is what causes it not to lather. Upon washing this product out, my hair immediately felt "cleaner". For once I felt as if the shampoo actually got out all of the product buildup that I use daily in my hair out. It felt lighter and not as weighed down because again, all of that buildup had been washed away. I was READY to see how the conditioner would perform but unfortunately this review is only for the cleanser so you'll have to read my conditioner review to see what my experience with it was!
I read loads of reviews on this and the conditioner; a mix of great and poo-poo. My conclusion was it seems to work well for curly/wavy, frizz prone hair and or irritated, sensitive scalp.I’ve tried so many shampoos over the years and thought I’d give this a blast.I just used it this morning in the shower along with the conditioner and no, it doesn’t lather up the way we’ve been lead to believe shampoos should but that is because it doesn’t have all the gunk and buffers/fillers in it which the average shampoos do.If you concentrate a 50p sized amount on the root area at the front of the scalp and another at the back section and massage it into the scalp and roots your on to a winner. Rinse then massage two 50p sized amounts into the lengths of the hair, scrunch it in and rinse; boom!My scalp feel’s happy and my hair thus far is lacking its usual frizz. I didn’t experience any issues with hair being more tangled than when using other shampoos and conditioners, on the contrary, my hair felt healthier to brush through despite it’s natural inclination to tangle and knot itself up.I will from the experience of this first use plan on buying both the shampoo and conditioner again 😊
I’m about to finish my first bottle of this shampoo, so time for a review. 1) GETTING THE SUDS TO THE SCALP. The first thing I noticed is how little it suds up compared to other shampoos. This is only a problem because less suds means less slip, and so it’s harder to get the shampoo through the hair to the scalp, which is what I want to clean. My solution was to put the shampoo into an old bottle of the glycolic acid toner, which has a pointed applicator tip as a lid. This allows me to squeeze the shampoo right onto my scalp in lines from my forehead to the nape of my neck. Then I insert my fingertips under my hair and massage the shampoo lines into my scalp. This works well, except the glycolic acid bottle is made of a harder plastic, so it’s difficult to squeeze. ... MoreI’m about to finish my first bottle of this shampoo, so time for a review. 1) GETTING THE SUDS TO THE SCALP. This works well, except the glycolic acid bottle is made of a harder plastic, so it’s difficult to squeeze. This method allows me to use less product and clean my scalp effectively. @TheOrdinary, please consider offering a lid with an applicator tip with the existing bottle. 2) CLEAN SCALP! It does a good job of cleaning my scalp, which generally gets oily quickly and has some build up. I would say that after going through one bottle my scalp seems to be producing a bit less oil, and significantly less buildup. I think I have some kind of dermatitis on my scalp, and I have been adding a little medicated shampoo (the pink one) to the crown of my head when my scalp starts to itch, but I’ll be stopping this to see how The Ordinary shampoo performs solo. 3) HAIR TEXTURE. My hair texture seems different, silkier and softer, even after the first use. I’d say this is more due to the shampoo than the conditioner 4) HAIR FALL. I was noticing a disturbing amount of hair fall before starting to use this shampoo. Now, I still lose hair, but it seems like a normal amount compared to what I was losing before starting this shampoo. I know less hair fall could be due to many factors, but it's still worthy of note, and interesting that it coincided with the use of this shampoo. 5) CONDITIONER. I’m using The Ordinary conditioner on the ends of my hair. I like it, it seems effective in helping with moisture and detangling. I put it on before I rinse the shampoo from my hair, because it is almost too effective, and can weigh my hair down, so I use the shampoo suds to help rinse it away. I also like the conditioner for shaving my legs. It softens the hair and helps the razor glide smoothly. 6) SCALP SERUM. I bought the Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA for Scalp, but have only used it a few times. I’m going to start using it when I start the second bottle of the shampoo. The shampoo does not dry my scalp out though, so I don’t feel like I -need- the serum, but maybe my scalp will like it. I’ll try to report back. 7) BODY WASH. I recently noticed that the shampoo bottle says it’s for body wash as well, so I’ve been using it for that the past few showers. It does clean well, and doesn’t over dry my skin. But because this is a low suds shampoo, it makes me feel like I should use more to get the job done. I’m going to keep using it as a body wash, and see if I can come up with a way to use small amounts effectively. IN CONCLUSION...I’m giving the shampoo 4 stars, because it cleans well, and my scalp health has improved, but I had to find a workaround with the applicator tip to apply it directly to my scalp. If the bottle came with an applicator tip, or The Ordinary let me purchase one separately, it would be a 5 star review. Thanks for another great product TO!
Sulfates have been the bad guy for maybe the past ten years. Sulfates are surfactants which help oil (such as sebum on the scalp) and water mix, thus making your hair get clean. This is also responsible for the lathering action in shampoo, and according to the Ordinary's website, this shampoo "contains SLES-2, a milder sulphate that has been incorporated into the formula to be gentle on the skin, and cleanse hair without additional colour fade." Since this sulfate is milder, there is less lathering action. The website also says, "The molecular structure of SLES-2 is designed to provide effective cleansing at a lower concentration to minimize concerns with potential irritation associated with the use of sulphates." So why add it? Because they're good at cleaning. ... MoreSulfates have been the bad guy for maybe the past ten years. So why add it? Because they're good at cleaning. They're so good that they can "overclean" your hair and strip some of those oils that you need from your hair, leading to dryness and irritation if you are prone to it. Whether or not this sulfate will irritate your own scalp is kind of on a person-to-person basis. It didn't irritate my scalp, but I do not have any scalp/skin issues. As far as this shampoo's performance goes, I wasn't impressed. It just felt like a cheap cleansing gel for your face. No hydration, moisturization, softening, repairing, or any other benefits. Just like a water rinse. I expected more, but it is "The Ordinary." If you want something simple, this is for you.
I have been a huge fan of all of Deciem's formulas (NIOD, HIF etc) for many years. I was genuinely gutted when I heard that you were discontinuining the HIF (Hair is Fabric) range as it was probably the only range of hair cleanser that made my hair happier after every wash. I have raved to countless friends who became devotees as well. It just worked well for afro hair. Afro hair does better in climates where there is a lot of moisture in the air. In more temperate climates like in northern Europe where I live, I therefore need to treat my hair to a lot of moisture, steam baths to keep it happy. Most standard shampoo brands in the market have a lot of sulfate which is known for often stripping hair of too much of its oils - while this gives that post shampoo 'clean' feel it also makes hair - especially afro hair - incredibly dry. For a type of hair like mine that needs lots of moisture this formula is therefore a total letdown. It just doesnt work. I was so excited to try it. I unfortunately had to re-shampoo my hair with water and jojoba oil to try to rehydrate my hair the first time I washed it with this shampoo. A big no no if you have afro hair. Its a real shame. HIF was perfect! My hunt for an appropriate hair cleanser / shampoo continues...
I have been been using The Ordinary products for years now, and they have really transformed my skin. After Covid my hair started falling out, so I gave the hair peptide serum a try as well and it worked wonders. The 2 main things I struggle with is lack of volume and dry ends. I need a good cleanser and a moisturising conditioner to tackle these problems. After Covid my hair started falling out, so I gave the hair peptide serum a try as well and it worked wonders. The 2 main things I struggle with is lack of volume and dry ends. I need a good cleanser and a moisturising conditioner to tackle these problems. I was very excited when their shampoo and conditioner were announced, and had high hopes for these given the very good results I had with all their products in the past. Unfortunately, after 2 weeks of using the shampoo and conditioner exclusively with no other additional products after washing, or any styling products, I have to go back to my old brand. The shampoo does not lather on the fist use, which is fine, I have used non-lathering shampoos in the past and know that lather does not equal cleanliness necessarily, however this shampoo does not clean the hair if used only once. My hair gets oily on the 4th day after washing, with this shampoo it got oily on the 2nd day towards the evening. The only way to get it to stay clean for 4 days is by double cleansing, which means using double the amount of shampoo, and in turn this dries your scalp. I never suffered with a dry scalp before (maybe a bit of itchiness in the winter), but after using this shampoo I have dry flakes forming on my scalp and falling on my shoulders...The conditioner feels like it's doing its job at first as it's extremely emollient when used in the shower; this makes you feel like it's moisturising. However, after the hair is dried the results are very disappointing. My hair is very dull and has this weird stiff texture that you sometimes get from dry shampoo, it's also very tangly and snappy when brushing, something I never experienced with my previous conditioner.I also have to mention the quantities of products used for my shoulder length hair - about 1 tsp of conditioner was enough to coat my ends and about 1 desert spoon of shampoo was enough for 2 rounds of cleansing. Finally, I would like to say that the packaging feels very nice, I love the look of the bottles and the fact that everything is fragrance free, however this product is not for me. Obviously this is my own experience and everyone's hair and scalp are different and I truly hope people with different hair types get better results.
