Best Camp Seat EVER

I have experimented with a lot of camp seat options - the weight is key for me. This thing is the BEST solution I have found. 10 oz is lighter than almost anything out there and the sleeping pad is already in my pack. As a bonus this thing works with 20" Thermarest and Klymit pads - all lengths. Yup, the short ones work just as well. Not only that, but the warmth is real... you can actually feel your heat being reflected back to you (with a Thermarest pad) making this a great 3 season option. Well worth the investment.

Decent Chair, little gimmicky

Decent chair, very lightweight. I had a very specific use case, I wanted to see whether it would be able to sit me upright in bed to help with sleep apnea while in the woods. It wasn't able to do that, but that's not what it's designed for anyway. The reason I ended up returning it was because I couldn't justify keeping it as a chair. It's a little gimmicky. Sure it makes a nice chair but you're still sitting on the ground. And it's hard to really lean back into and be comfortable. It doesn't support the back very well. Almost, but not quite. I'll save my money and spend it on an actual lightweight chair instead.

Product was exactly as advertised. It is easy to set-up and easy to adjust. I highly recommend this chair kit. I will primarily be using this in my tent. The only thing I would change is the location of the clips on the adjustment straps. I have very little head-room in my small conical backpacking hot tent and will be sitting up from a prone position to connect the straps and clips to form the chair. For me it would be easier if the clips were at the thigh instead of the armpit area. But I am old with bad shoulders.

Very Comfortable But A Little Fiddly
27 July 2016

Okay--it is a good product but not a great product. Here's the good: it's reasonably lightweight enough for backpacking (but not for ultralight fanatics). And, once it is setup, it IS comfortable and easily adjustable for your body weight and how upright or leaned-back you want to sit. Note that this does NOT have legs--you are basically sitting on a leg-less chair. Here's how it works and why it's also not so great. The product is completely unpadded. That's why it's so lightweight. The padding comes from using YOUR not-included self-inflating sleeping pad. You could also use a foam pad like a Ridgerest Classic. To set it up, you fold over 1/3 the length of the sleeping pad and insert this double-thick part in the bottom of the chair, and then insert the remaining ... MoreOkay--it is a good product but not a great product. That's why it's so lightweight. The padding comes from using YOUR not-included self-inflating sleeping pad. You could also use a foam pad like a Ridgerest Classic. To set it up, you fold over 1/3 the length of the sleeping pad and insert this double-thick part in the bottom of the chair, and then insert the remaining single-thick 1/3 of the pad into the chair back. You CAN'T do this if the pad is fully inflated. You're best off letting it partially inflate, leaving the air valve open, inserting the pad into the chair, then closing the air valve. Then, you sit down and adjust the strap lengths until comfortable. So, some "assembly" required to setup. But here's the real issue: you need that pad to sleep on! So, now it's time to sleep, and you have to let the straps out, wrestle out the bottom 2/3 of the pad from the chair, get the pad fully inflated, and then you're good to sleep. But THEN, the next day, if you want to use the chair, you need to "reassemble" it, etc., repeat each day. One caveat: if you don't care about having any padding under your butt, you can use the chair without any padding at all in which case this is quite a fantastic product, right? :-) The construction seems quite solid and the chair is available for 20" and 25" inch self-inflating sleeping pads. My sleeping pad is standard length but it will work with any length pad.

Very comfortable
18 January 2024

Seems to be very sturdy, and it accepted my MEC air mattress with no problems at all. I also have a Helinox Zero chair, but I find the Trekker/mattress combo more accommodating for shifting my position around this way and that. Just make sure you get the right size.

Watch out for pebble beaches with this chair
7 November 2024

I’m an expedition sea kayaker and used this chair on coarse pebble beaches along the Alaska peninsula. On those surfaces, a support rod actually broke right through the sleeve. I’ve sewed it up and it should continue to function, but from now on I’ll be mindful that the support rods need to be on firm ground.

Why not Earth Tones instead of Orange?
20 April 2024

I have a Thermarest Classic and the chair that went with it. Both are Forest Green in color, and I have used them for many years (decades). I recently upgraded to a Thermarest TrailPro mattress, and want a chair for it. But this one is orange! Bright colors are out of place in the wilderness, and any equipment that is brightly colored is automatically disqualified from being a part of my outfit. We go there to blend in and be in harmony with nature, not to stand out with garish colors. Taking brightly-colored gerar into the outdoors is obnoxious and inconsiderate. I would buy this chair if it was made in an earth-tone color, but will never buy it in orange. I will try to continue to use my old chair, even though it's harder to reach the valve since the new mat is ... MoreI have a Thermarest Classic and the chair that went with it. Wonderful!

I tested this product at home to check which size I needed (I have a NeoAir and went with the 20" rather than the 25" - the labelling doesn't indicate which size fits with which product, unfortunately), and I didn't think it was that comfortable so was almost going to take it back - duh! Of course compared to my couch its not great, buuuuuuut when I took it backpacking I was SO happy I had it! To be able to sit and read in comfort, with back support was lovely (although no lower back support, but could jimmy that with a fleece or something). I'm not sure I'd take it on longer backpacks where there is less time around camp and weight is crucial (even though it's not that heavy, everything adds up), but for shorter ones where there is more opportunity for relaxing, I ... MoreI tested this product at home to check which size I needed (I have a NeoAir and went with the 20" rather than the 25" - the labelling doesn't indicate which size fits with which product, unfortunately), and I didn't think it was that comfortable so was almost going to take it back - duh! Prefered the older models that were closed at the ends. Docked one star. I'll probably sew mine shut at the bottom end to reduce the likelihood of the mattress getting a hole from directly contacting the ground. Otherwise an excellent, light weight item that provides serious comfort at the end of the day. I've been using these for almost 40 years. I don't really see these around. I feel like they are my secret weapon.
