Driving along the Long Island Expressway at 70 MPG, one of my bikes dislodged from one of the cradles and dangled on the exiting cradle. A passing motorist signal to me and I was able to pull to the shoulder. I took the bike off and returned it and was positive the the strap was ratcheted tightly as it had been on the initial mounting. After a few miles it again came off of the cradle. I again pulled ono the shoulder of the road and a police vehicle stopped to assist. We ware able to put the bike inside my SUV and I continued home. If the bike had fallen off at that speed on a major highway there could have been a massive accident involving multiple vehicles causing major damage and certainly injuries. I would have been subject to liability as well as the

Bought this based on the reviews on Thule and here. I have one large and one small coop mountain bike. Large barely fits on, small does not at all, had to put it on the end and make it fit, not the recommended placement. Both bikes were scratched after the first use, hopefully some rhino liner paint in the rubbing area will fix it and prevent rust. May be fine for larger framed bikes, but would not recommend it for any mountain bike.

It's extremely difficult to get 3 bike on this rack. Can't see how we can ever put 4. Handle bars ram into the spoke or the tires of the other bike that was already placed on the rack making it difficult to put on the second bike let alone e a 3 or fourth. Oscillating them does not solve the problem. The spacing between the bikes needs to be bigger to account for the handle bars positions and width.Would not reccomend this for a purchase.. Disappointed we bought this. Would have preferred the platform type but needed the loaded bike rack to be able to swing open to access van trunk and this one did that so nought in.Built solid but functionality is awful.

I bought this to replace a previous Thule hitch that I had for decades. There are many nice changes including the longer arms and better ratches for securing. However what is missing is that the old system had a small U-shaped bracket to go around the head of the hitch bolt. A padlock could be easily fitted over this to prevent the removal of the bolt by nefarious characters. The new system is missing this; I made one to fit. It is prabably a $0.25 piece of metal with a big need to make a copmplete system instead of having to buy their $60 locking bolt.
Just recieved the Thule Camber 4 Bike Rack. Easy assembly, very solid rack but the PLASTIC straps are beyond terrible. I promise you will fight with these cheap plastic straps every use. I would give a much better review but will now go out and purchase my own straps to replace the junk straps. Expect more out of Thule. Don’t cheap out on your straps!!
The product is pretty solid and easy to assemble. Putting a women's bike on it is questionable. I would like to see a more sophisticated way of removing the rack (you have to unscrew one or two bolts). The mechanism for raising and lowering the rack is very good and easy in contrast. Overall, I think this is a good buy.
I previously had a similar Thule 4 bike car carrier that was great. It was solidly built with thick rubber straps that made it easy to load and lock down bikes. It survived several hard impacts but when I accidentally backed it into a tree it was done. I went looking for the exact same rack but was dissapointed that they don't make them that way any more. So, I bought this, the 2020 version.First, the good. The core and frame are solid and heavy duty. It is easy to assemble and attaches snugly to a tow hitch. The mechanisms to raise and lower the bars are easy and efficient to use. It will easily hold the weight of 4 bikes (although hanging 4 adult size bikes on it would require a Tetris expert). The rubber rests are solid and can be adjusted to fit various bike frames.Now the bad and annoying parts. The straps (for holding bikes down) are a pain! They are thin, with plastic teeth and tighten down by threading through small locking boxes. To lock in place the straps must be run straight through the locking boxes. This can be difficult with wide or odd shaped bike frames. I haven't lost a bike yet but the thin straps do not have my confidence for holding up over time, elements or bumpy roads.Second, to unlock the straps, you push down on a plastic release lever which is supposed to raise off the teeth so they can be pulled out. However, again, the straps must be straight in the boxes to release and remove. If bikes have shifted during the drive (which they always do) you have to lift and adjust the bike to straighten the strap to get it out. Also, the release lever tends to flip over when it's under pressure (like when the bike shifts en route) - this doesn't release the strap fortunately - but it gets stuck, and the release lever has to be pushed back into place. To do this, again, you are lifting and struggling with the bike to straighten the strap. Even when the straps are straight getting them out of the box can be a pain.Im a big guy and the straps are just an annoyance but they would be a major problem for many women and anyone with a slighter build. Even for me, after a day riding, Ive left the bikes on the rack overnight rather than fight to get them off.The heavier, thicker rubber straps on the previous model were much more efficient and easy to use. You just pulled and hooked them. They were sturdy and I never had any problems getting them on or off. Switching to this overcomplicated strap and lock box design was a bad idea.So to wrap it up - this works ok as a bike carrier. The frame and its workings are solid. The straps will be annoying for anyone - but a big problem for many women and those with a slighter build who will struggle to get bikes connected and disconnected.
If not for the terrible strap design, I would give the rack 5 stars. As it stands, I would never recommend this rack to anyone. The straps are very difficult to release and remove. It's very aggravating. It seems like Thule should have the brain power to design and engineer a strap that is functional and easy to use. Prior to my purchase, I read reviews that talked about the poor strap design and the difficulties. I dismissed them thinking it would not be something I couldn't overcome. Big mistake, listen to the reviews and don't purchase this until Thule comes up with a better design and a user friendly strap.
Bought this today from New England Bike in Southwick Mass. (Excellent dealer). Very nice quality rack for the price. I looked at many other brands and wanted something that would fit my family's bikes for sure. I can confirm that it fits my Giant Revel 29er, Wife's cheap 26" Girls Pacific mountain bike, both my daughters 24" Trek and 20" Columbia Girls mountain bikes. I did buy 1 of the $50 Thule adapter and ended up up using it on my wifes bike and it made it much easier but not totally necessary(I tried it without and they all still fit but Wife's bike was touching my Giant and would of scratched it most likely. Overall I am very pleased and just want to say do not listen to the negative reviews saying this wont fit 4 bikes or wont fit Girl's bikes. just received this hitch rack and separate lock. hitch seems stable so far, my main dissatisfaction so far was when, in attaching the fairly expensive thule lock ($60), it was immediately apparent that the lock only protects the part of the rack that inserts into the hitch receiver! the entire vertical part of the rack could be removed in about 3 minutes by anyone with a socket wrench as there are only two bolts holding it to the locked part of the rack. and i assume that this vertical component, the part that holds the bikes, would be a pretty extravagantly expensive piece to replace!! or is thule's intention that we buy 2 of the locks--one for each component (2x$60)? that certainly is not made clear in any of the literature about the rack or optional lock.
