Thundershirt for Dogs
ThunderShirt is an easy, effective and safe solution for calming agitated and anxious dogs. It is excellent for fear of fireworks, thunderstorms, cars or traveling. The ThunderShirt is easy to put on and ensures a consistent pressure on the core of the dog. Pressure has been used successfully to reduce anxiety for many years e.g, swaddling a baby. This pressure has a calming effect for most dogs. ThunderShirt is to be used as a solution for dogs in stressful situations such as travel, separation, kennel stays, fear of loud noises, fireworks. Like people, dogs come in many different shapes and sizes, so if your dog has unusual proportions, you may need to go up or down a size versus the "standard" measurements. The ThunderShirt is designed to be very adjustable to accommodate different dog shapes and still be easy to put on.

It is well made, sizing is correct, material appears durable. So it's not about quality. The one thing that made ne give it a lower rating is how stiff the front of the neck area is. There us a very thick strip of velcro, I get that the idea is to allow you to adjust the size but it would not be comfortable for the dog for a long period or even to sleep overnight. If the area had just been the soft material it would ha een more usable for me. We originally bought this for our Gordon Setter boy (pictured without the thundershirt). While it fit him around the torso, it was too tight around his shoulders/neck. He absolutely loved it and slept sooo deeply today (to the point I'm worried he won't sleep tonight), but I had to have the shoulder/neck strap undone. I put it on our GS girlie, and she obviously also loves it. We've ordered an XXL for our guy to make sure the front clasp is comfortable for him. They are the same breed and similar weight but not similar stature. This is our 1 1/2 year pitoodle dude. He was dumped like trash at about a year, in our driveway, and his ONLY hangup with the world at all is gunshots and fireworks. This should fix his overthinking little wagon right up.He has a 23” back, a 31” chest, and a 17” neck, a real weirdo in the shape department. He weighs 65 lbs.Large fits great when properly snug. An XL would be too large and a M would be too small. He's right on the cusp of the chart sizes, but not the IRL sizes. Plenty of room to pee, no useless buttflap, good quality Velcro.Works great for practice so far, he’s super comfy in it, not tryna rub it off on the side of the couch like he does with stuff he doesn’t like wearing. We tried the Canada pooch weighted shoulder thing and it’s sizing is WAY off, so the 2XL we were directed to, by the chart, there, was humongous on him and he clearly doesn’t care for it at all. I think this will be our main go-to, instead.Super easy to put on and tighten, the double layered Velcro flaps are genius. Nice thick jersey and solid construction. Easy to follow instructions that you don’t reallyneed, as long you can find the front end of your own dog that must rely upon you for fulfillment each and every one of their needs and desires. I can’t quite determine what to think about people who not only “can’t” figure out putting this on a dog, but who post that fact next to their own name, as if it is the fault of the thing, itself, but hey. Yes I can.Hope the fit specifics are useful, I figure “it’s great!” or “it sucks!” isn’t much help to anyone else.

My rescue GSD has struggled with stress of fireworks since we met 5 years ago. Every year gets worse and the month around July 4th is terrible. I’ve tried drops, chews, blankets, sitting with her in closets and tubs or near her crate but nothing helped both for the pops and fizzles further in the distance and those next door. I got this mid-June and it’s helped tremendously with all the noise in the area. She’s actually able to sleep and relax within 15 min. instead of pant and panic for hours. If a firework goes off right next door she’s stressed but it’s still incredible improvement. I pair with HomeoPet fireworks drops. She never wore anything before so I wasn’t sure if she’d accept it but we started on a day when it was quiet and now she’s happy to see it and ... MoreMy rescue GSD has struggled with stress of fireworks since we met 5 years ago. She never wore anything before so I wasn’t sure if she’d accept it but we started on a day when it was quiet and now she’s happy to see it and wear it. The only issue: definitely go by the chest size not the general size chart. My girl “should” fit in an XL based on weight and breed suggestion, but she’s barrel chested and actually needed an XXL. The XL was way too small. It’s nice because she likes to lie flat with her belly on cool tile floors and this shirt lets her do that even while wearing it.
My precious pup, Gizmo, is absolutely petrified of any loud sounds. I bought this shirt sorta as a last resort not expecting it to do much for him, but I figured it was worth a shot. Now, I wish I would have bought it months ago! Before the thunder shirt he would get scared, go hide under the bed, and tremble until he cried himself to sleep. We have decided to put the shirt on him just before it starts getting dark the past few days because it’s currently mid firework season, and now he still, as expected, get scared, but instead of trembling and crying he just lays down under the bed and goes right to sleep! Gizmo is a hound/beagle mix and weights about 60 pounds, and the large fits him perfectly. I 100% recommend giving this shirt a shot. Worth every penny.
I don't even know where to begin. I bought this shirt because our 22 month old PibbleBoxer hates fireworks. I've never had a dog that was bothered by them before, so I thought I'd give this a try.She weighs 60 pounds, so the sizing seemed easy; According to the chart, large = 41-64 lbs. When I put it on her as per the directions, starting with the shoulder straps, it wrapped around her stomach, completely missing her chest. After quite a few adjustments, I got it to fit her more like all the dogs in the pictures. There was still so much fabric, it was nearly impossible to keep it from bunching up in different places. I had to find the perfect placement so it didn't rub her armpits when she walked, and then there was still a flap of loose fabric over her back that ... MoreI don't even know where to begin. I had to find the perfect placement so it didn't rub her armpits when she walked, and then there was still a flap of loose fabric over her back that irritated her. So the first day she had it on for 5 minutes before she tried to eat it. I finally figured out how to put it on her at least bearably, if not 100% comfortably, and it turned out to be impractical and ineffective. You're supposed to put it on when they're calm. However, it's impossible to know when somebody nearby is going to set off fireworks, so she would have to wear it all day long on the 4th of July. I was not going to make her wear all those extra layers on a nearly 90 degree day, especially since she would be rolling around in her pool to cool off. I can't begin to imagine how uncomfortable a wet shirt would be for her. Despite the difficulty with timing, I did manage to get it on her a couple of days before the fireworks started. She seemed comfortable, walking around, not biting at the shirt, even eating some food. As soon as there was one bang, she was back under the table just like always.Maybe I should have gotten a medium, despite her weighing well over 40 pounds, I don't know. All I can say is that every claim made by Thundershirt turned out to be false. It was not easy to put on, it was not comfortable, and it was definitely not calming.
We've had the original pink thundershirt since 2009. It never really worked with our mini schnauzer but recently our almost 16 year old schnoodle started having anxiety so we tried it on him and it seemed to work! We thought he should have one of his own so we bought the blue polo and were shocked at how much smaller it was. Both are size small! Not sure if it's because it's a "polo" or not but the Thundershirt website says they're all the same size? I don't like where the smaller one connects because it's right under his belly instead of on his side like the pink one does so I'm hoping to try a different one and see if the heather gray classic in a small will fit more like the original pink one. So, I think I do recommend trying it, but each pup is different so you'll have to see for yourself!
Normally, putting things on my dog is not something he welcomes me to do, but since getting the thundershirt, literally any time he hears thunder or loud noises that bothher him, he comes running to me waiting for me to put the thundershirt on. It's like he knows it will help him and he looks for it when he is feeling scared. I am thrilled with how it is helping him. For the first time ever, after using this thundershirt, combined with Solliquin chews, and RexSpecs earmuffs, my doggie was able to sleep through the 4th of July fireworks calmly. Normally he darts back and forth from one side of the house to the other, looking for a dark place to hide - shaking and panting uncontrollably with a very alarmed expression, like he is about to have a heart attack. So this has been a real game changer. I had the heavy duty stuff available from the vet as a backup, but these three things worked like a charm when used together. And when my dog runs to me to get me to put the thundershirt on, I know he knows it is helpful for him too!!!
I was skeptical of this vest. My dog is a husky mix, with high energy and anxiety. I finally ordered it because Finley's separation anxiety, and anxiety in general, was getting to be too much. My other dog is very calm, so it's been hard dealing with the polar opposite. Not a minute after I put the vest on Finley, he melted. Lying on the floor, eyes closed--completely zen. Incredible. I'm also using other desensitization techniques (and plenty of exercise), with the goal of building up to several hours of leaving him at home without mass destruction and hysterical anxiety. So far, the ThunderShirt has noticeably calmed him! I'll be using this daily so that my boy can enjoy life with less anxiety.
I have an 8-month-old pug who was not allowed to go outside at the breeder's home. He was afraid of everything. Grass, planes, cars, rain, traffic, walking, gravel, dirt. people, other animals including birds, squirrels, dogs cats, and the world. I tried calming treats but he only ate dry liver. I decided to try the Thunder shirt. I did not expect anything. I have worked with dogs as a foster for over 30 years as well as, a trainer. I have to admit this was the easiest fix for anxiety I have ever used.I used the weight the doctor weighed him at to order the shirt. I got him a small and it is too small. He needs a medium. He is a runt but he has a wide chest. No fat. I did as the instructions say he did not seem to be too afraid of it. Then we went for our walk. I had him wear it over his harness and that did not do well. I then placed on his body with the harness over it and he did much better. We live a block from a dog walk and park. Until the Thunder shirt we were never able to get to the park without him being carried or in full panic. We walked the park with the kids. We even went to the empty dog park. He was able to leave my side and explore.I also kept him in it during his home time so he could relax and not panic at every sound. I am impressed and no drugs needed!
