It’s classic packaging similar to the rest of Tom Ford, but the all black adds to the mystery and boldness of this fragrance. This fragrance is comparable in price to all of the brands other scents. It is definitely a luxury brand. The quality is great and it lasts a long time, a little goes a long ways. If you like unique, bold, intense fragrances, I would recommend testing this one out. It is not my favorite Tom Ford fragrance because there are so many good ones, but I do like it. Fragrances can be different for everyone, so I would recommend testing it out or at least smelling it before buying!

This is a deep and woody fragrance that is very strong when first applied, but settles into a slightly more mellow scent after an hour or two of wear and continues to develop into a more manageable and pleasant scent the longer it’s worn. My nose picked up a strong note of incense with a woody undertone, like if you were using incense deep in a forest. I know I have smelled fragrances before that have a similar smell and vibe, at least to the dry down if not also to the opening notes. It’s possible that Black Lacquer is better blended than other similar fragrances, and it certainly has an appeal, but I think that if you like this scent but don’t want to pay Tom Ford prices, you could find a similar scent elsewhere.I think that this is not likely a safe blind-buy fragrance if for no other reason than the price, but also because of the strong and sharp opening. This fragrance does deserve a fair test though, and I would recommend wearing it for a while and smelling it as it develops before coming to a final verdict. If you were going to buy this without testing, I would only do so if you know that you like deeply woody scents.The bottle is gorgeous and sleek and matches the fragrance name perfectly, but unfortunately the all black lacquer-esque look means that this bottle is a magnet for any dust or lint, and shows finger prints at the slightest touch. The bottle looked like I had pulled it out from under a dirty couch after me using it just once and trying to wipe the fingerprints off. The lid also has a crevice around the label that can catch dust/lint as well as pet hairs if you have any pets, and is hard to clean because of how narrow the crevice is. Additionally, while the top of the lid has the Tom Ford name engraved or imprinted in to the center, the front label is just a clear sticker, which feels like it does not live up to the price tag. The bottle does come packaged in a gorgeous and high quality box which would be great for storage or gifting, and also is easier to keep clean and can protect the bottle itself. The box is nice enough that you could display the bottle in the box rather than on its own.I debated between rating 3 stars and 4, but ultimately decided on 4 because once the fragrance dried down, I continue to want to smell it again and again which feels like a win for Black Lacquer. If you enjoy woody scents and don’t mind paying Tom Ford prices for a nice bottle and a brand name scent, this could be a good fragrance for you and I would recommend giving it a sniff. However, if you want to enjoy the initial spray as much as the dry down, or are just looking for a nice woody scent, you can probably find what you’re looking for elsewhere for a better price.

The performance and lasting abilities this product has also contributes to it's high rating. If it was in a scent I loves, it would most definitely be a perfect 5 stars out of 5!

I also found that - at least in my opinion- it leaned a bit more masculine than unisex. Overall: this is a solid scent from Tom Ford. In the bottle, I LOVED it. On my own skin, maybe not as much. I would continue to purchase Tom Ford fragrances in the future due to what is done really well (scent strength & longevity), although I might pass on this particular scent for myself. I could see my Dad or my brother really liking this one. With all that said, I’d give this scent a middle of the road ranking of 3/5 stars.
