I bought this a a little more than a month ago and it was a great purchase. Put oil and gas in it, waited a few minutes, and it started on the first pull. Mowed a little over a third of an acre that was pretty tall and didn’t use a full tank of gas. Engine is incredibly quiet and after mowing for 45 minutes my ears weren’t ringing like they were with my old mower. The self propelled drive system is so easy! You can mow with literally two fingers on it. Push a little on the handle and it moves forward the more you push the faster it goes. The recycler mulches so well there is almost zero clippings left showing. I really love this mower!! The only two downsides are when I got it home the plastic part holding the safety kill to the handle was broke. Not dinging my ... It is pretty flimsy though. I think a design change is needed here since there are tons of aftermarket replacements on Amazon, I figure this breaking is a common thing. I used a couple of zip ties to secure it back in place and ordered a new one. If my zip ties fail, I will install the new one and see how long it lasts. The second thing is the bag is pretty small. I tried to bag the yard once and while it works great, I had to empty it a lot. The mulch function seems to work so well though I don’t really plan to use it anyway. Awesome unit!! I really love it. Well worth the price paid.

Bought our new Toro lawnmower at an authorized dealer. I have 1.5 acres that is all hill; a riding mower would be nice, but it's just not a practical option for most of my lawn. Due to the size of my lawn, I was looking for a mower with a side discharge. At first I was nervous about purchasing this Toro because it did not have the desired discharge option. However, the staff explained that if I register my mower online, Toro will send me a resr/side discharge adapter. I took the plunge. I was initially skeptical about the adapter -- even that it would be so easy to obtain. To my surprise, all I had to do was check one box during registration and the side discharge was on its way. To get almost 90 minutes of continuous run time from even the newest generation battery powered mowers would require a second battery and the purchase price would top out at well over $700. My yard is really bumpy. The old Troy-Bilt front drive had more weight up there, and though it was self-propelled, it also required more effort...I think I was actually pushing down somewhat as well as forward. That combination made me oblivious as to how bumpy my entire yard is (and not only that patch out back).2. Rear drive makes the front end of this new mower lighter (duh). The Personal Pace is a very nice feature and mowing is almost effortless; i.e. it is like you are going for a walk around the property, compared to what we were using. Did I mention that I have learned that my yard is bumpy? That's what I notice and that is not particularly Toro's problem.3. We have used the machine about 7 times now and always run out of fuel. We can't get the job done on one full tank of gas. This is somewhat annoying, yet if I could recommend that Toro upgrade anything at this price point, it would be to add a bigger gas tank. (If they are reading this, do you guys offer a bigger tank upgrade?)4. Of the mowers I shopped, most newer mowers in this class offer "1-lever" height adjustment. What I had is what I know and this mower has the same 4 wheel adjusters. That 1 lever feature on other mowers is nice. And while on that topic, could you print or stamp on the mower what height each notch is? I know it is in the manual and I have that page hanging in the garage. Consider it a suggestion.5. Even though we gained an inch of blade diameter (old, 21"; new, 22") it takes about the same time to cut the yard. No, I have not done a full-blown, quantitative, empirical, double-blind study. It seems to take the same time and that is very likely due to the requisite fueling pit-stop.6. It takes about the same time to get the job done but one doesn't feel "beat-up" after the job is done as was the case with the old mower.

This is a great mower, one of the best I've ever used and I've used many different brands. Never did like self-propelled mowers in the past but this thing is a dream to mow with. This will mow up the steep embankment in front of my house with no problem and when you're coming back down the hill and stop at the bottom the drive engages and acts like a brake. I can walk alongside of it while it mows on the side embankment which is not as tall. Reading some of the reviews it's obvious there are a lot of people that do not know how to mow grass. This thing mulches great if you don't try to cut four or five inches off the top of your grass. You're only supposed to mow a third the height of your grass at a time while mulching. I live in South Florida where it rains just about every afternoon this time of year so I have to cut my grass while it is still wet and I've never had a problem with it clogging while bagging or clumping while mulching.... second notch from the highest position...One time I noticed clumping coming out of the back of the mower but it was operator error because I did not flip the lever from bag to mulch. I did spray underneath the deck and the top of the mower and all the plastic with some Sta-bil ceramic coating and nothing sticks to it at all. I tried cutting some thick 12-in plus high grass in the field next to my house set on the second notch from the highest setting and it mowed it with no problem if I went at a reasonable pace for that height of grass. I have no trouble turning it like I've seen in some reviews and the control of the self-propelled system is amazingly smooth. I've had no resistance while pulling it backwards, you just have to make sure that you have the drive handle pulled back. And with the motor not running it pushes like any other mower that's not self-propelled. The ability to change from mulch to bagging is a great feature. I have some areas in my backyard that I haven't seeded and gotten some nice grass to grow that has sand spurs, so when I get to those areas I can bag and collect the spurs so I don't spread them around. Then switch back to mulch so the mulch will help suppress the weeds in some bare spots. The rubber flap on the back of the deck can be a pain when you're trying to move it in the folded position but I guess you could always remove that if you find it a big enough problem. The one thing I read in some of the reviews that I have to agree with is the front end does get light when the bag starts to get full but then I've had other mowers that have done the same thing that had a high capacity bag. When I empty the bag into a garbage can it fills a 20 gallon can about 3/4 of the way without packing it down. It's great how fine it mulches the grass and leaves. If you use the grass as a mulch in your garden or around your plants it will break down much quicker. I don't have that many leaves but if you have heavy leaf cover on your lawn I believe this mower would do a great job at picking them up and mulching them into a fine mulch. The adjustable height of the handle comes in very handy. I use it in the high position normally because that's more comfortable for me and then use the lower position when I'm pushing it up hills so the handles not as high and also when the bag starts to fill so it's easier to slightly lift to keep the front end down. And for the people that try to compare a newer mower with an older 5 or 6 horsepower motor it's just not an equal comparison thanks to the EPA and CARB regulations the manufacturers have to meet. The new motors are jetted so lean that sometimes it causes a problem that the main jet clogs and the motor won't run. There is an easy fix that I found on YouTube but would take some mechanical knowledge to perform. I have about 4 hours on my mower and have not had any problems using non-ethanol gas and fuel treatment. To me this is the only choice for a good quality mower because some of the other mowers have plastic pieces on the front and back where the wheels are mounted to the metal deck. Some of them have problems with the wheels actually falling off. Even the so-called best brand mower has had problems with their new engines. So to sum things up, I think this is the best mower to buy if you want a quality mower that has parts available if needed. And if you're thinking about an electric mower think about this... you can buy a whole motor for this mower for less money than some of the batteries cost that you will have to replace in probably under 5 years and that's if you charge them properly and take good care of them.... I'm 62 so this is definitely the last mower I will ever buy.
Bought in August '22, so 3 months ago. It replaced a Craftsman that I had for 19 years. I've used this mower 10-12 times. First time it started on two pulls, nice! Has progressively gone the other way up to 7 pulls yesterday. Unit is lighter than the Craftsman so it bounces around a bit. Gives me concern for its durability long term. The wheels are hollow and don't believe the are ball-bearing. The pace control takes some getting used to, but I like it. I believe there is a design flaw with the deck. It is not well adapted to handle the flow of clippings. When mulching or bagging, clippings accumulate in hollowed-back of the right front wheel to the point where the wheel jams, won't turn, pulling it to the right. Always thought of Toro as a top end mower. O bit disappointed in where they have headed.
This is my 3rd Toro self pace mower. So far, I'm quite disappointed. While the self pace is great and easy to push, we have found this spring that with the fast growing grass in Michigan, the vortex mower tends to clog alot and will sputter and stall out if I don't stop and continually clean it out under the mower deck. The grass actually sticks under the deck, I cannot simply raise the front wheels slightly for it to clear itself. Note, I raise the mower deck high during this time of year and mow twice a week so it's not like I'm waiting too long to mow or mowing the grass too short. Since this mower doesn't have the cleaning feature like prior models (ie hose attachment), this is no easy task and I have a messy wad of grass to clean up each time. Thought I was a ... Thought I was a forever Toro customer but may have to rethink it with this mower. Since the mower didn't come with the side discharge, I don't really have another option until Toro sends it to me for registering. And who knows if that will even help. Mowing with this mower has become a messy, cumbersome task.
I have only had the chance to use the mower a short while. It has been a great purchase. I have other Toro lawn tools and they haver performed above and beyond my expectations. Some reviews were very negative, some petty. Simply put, I don't let those affect my purchases. New machines need some internal lubrication before running. I filled the machine with the oil provided, pulled the starter rope gently to lubricate the internal parts before I attempted to start the machine. Yes I could tell the difference after about three pulls.I felt that it was necessary for this operation even though it's not listed in the instructions. I was confused when there was not a rear discharge on the original purchase. When I registered the machine There was a option for a rear discharge so I got that. Not sure why it set up that way but still happy. Some notation of that when you purchase the machine would have been helpful. Anyway, so far so good.
I had the older model personal pace for 6 years and absolutely loved it. It started to deteriorate so i replaced it with this newer model. The newer model is nice but feels very cheap. Im not sure if its the difference in materials used or what, but definitely dosent feel as sturdy as the older model. I also didn't realize until after purchase that it does not come with a side discharge chute. Their website states the reasoning is that their research shows most customers bag their grass, im curious as to what research was done for that because i dont know a single person who bags and my local municipality dosent offer yard waste pickup. As with the the last model and the primary reason for buying this unit is the personal pace. I do very much like how the faster you push it the faster it goes. Other manufacturers offer this option but it is a adjustable dial whereas the Toro has a sliding handle so the faster you push it the faster it goes. All in all it is definitely a nice model with nice price point.
I have been using a Toro lawnmower for 17 years and I like them a lot. The 21465 is no exception. I put it together without even having to read the directions (I do have above average skills) but it was really easy to get it from the box to mowing the lawn in about 15 minutes. After adding the oil and some fresh gas, the mower started on the second pull. I'm in New England and it's October and my lawn was covered with leaves and my grass was about 5 inches high. I bumped up the wheel height a few notches and mowed the lawn in short order. The bag filled quickly with leaves and clippings but even though this unit is a 150cc model, it had no issues. The personal pace feature makes it very easy to maneuver and hills are a breeze. I bought my mower at my local O'Connor Ace Hardware. Highly recommend!
Mowed about 1/10 of an acre before the rear wheel fell off and despite searching my yard for an hour, I couldn't find the missing piece. I had to take it to an authorized service center to be repaired. I've used it once since then and it's been okay, so far. It's very light weight, which makes it much easier to maneuver than my 15+ year-old Troy-bilt mower. But since it is light weight, it tends to bounce around a bit on my rough yard. I requested the side discharge chute that Toro provides at no cost when you register your mower. It arrived much more quickly than the projected 2 week delivery date. It mostly throws a lot of debris on me, so I will probably just use the grass bag or mulcher from now on. But I prefer a mower with side discharge, so that is a negative for me. I like the personal pace self propel, because I can walk faster than I could with my old mower. But, one area in my yard has a fairly steep slope, and the self propel doesn't seem to be doing much when I push the mower up the slope. Fortunately, it is so light-weight, it's not really a problem. Hopefully the wheel falling off is an anomaly, but it's reduced my confidence in the quality of the product.
