Combining all the bands results in everything moving to 2.4GHz regardless of what Linksys claims. As devices move out of range of 5GHz they switch to 2.4GHz and NEVER MOVE BACK. Even devices that are fixed in place (4K TVs) find their way onto the 2.4GHz band and succumb to the congestion of 60+ other devices. My EA9500 router steers only on 5GHz. Allowing separate SSIDs on each band (key point). As a result, I'm now forced to turn off the 5GHz radios on this extender and only use it on 2.4GHz. Too bad, since I was hoping to extend my 5GHz network while reducing the demand on the solo 2.4GHz radio in the EA9500. Please update firmware to allow steering to be limited to 5GHz radios!!!

Tplink AC1200 Wi-Fi Range Extender - Amazing! No more wifi black spots. I simply love it. I have my actual wifi router in the lounge room and my home office is in the other corner of the house. This extender has been working wonders and has completely bridged the gap. Installing it was super easy too. Amazing product-)

It would not stay connected to my internet. I had to keep reconnecting it. Not worth the hassle or money. Now when I try to find my 5 GHZ connection it wouldn't. I expected better. I know they are going to say i have the extender too far. My phone, Laptop, and printer picks up the 5 GHZ signal at the same distance. So your telling me a dedicated wifi extender with external antennas cant find the same 5 GHZ signal. Tried chat support because the phone wait time was ridiculous for help but got treated like someone that didn't even know how to setup my extender waste of time. not sure if it is a firmware or hardware issue but for the most expensive wifi extender you offer to consumers this is not good

I requested the opportunity to test and write a review for a range extender, the Linksys Next-Gen AC Max-Stream Tri-Band AC3000 Wi-Fi Range Extender. The only cost to me was the time it took to test it in my home and write the review. As soon as I saw this product and read the description, I wanted to try it, since I have some lower signal areas in my home - the two far ends. I liked the idea of seamless roaming and that it was a tri-band like my router. I also liked seeing antennas on a range extender. I have used range extenders before, but only the wall plug type. My set-up: We had brick ranch home then added a large 2 story room addition (additional 1352 sq. ft.). There are now 4 levels. During the remodel, the contractor wired it with Cat 6 and added a wiring panel in the furnace room, so the router ended up in the lowest of the 4 levels in a small room that has concrete block walls on 3 sides. Even though I have a great router, a Linksys EA8300 Max-Stream AC2200 Tri-Band router, it was not located in an ideal spot for range. I also have Centurylink DSL C1900A modem – 20 Mbps. Before I received the extender, I had planned on a wired hookup vs wireless, but then discovered that I wouldn’t have had seamless roaming with that choice. When setting it up wirelessly, I used the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) buttons on the router and extender, which took no time at all. I then unplugged the extender and moved it to a room right above the furnace room. I placed it on the top of a bookshelf near the ceiling. I only had 2 minor issues during setup. I was previously using a Linksys Wi-Fi Range Extender AC1900 / RE7000. I forgot to unplug it before setting up the new range extender, so when the new one displayed, it displayed as a separate Wi-Fi choice with “EXT” added to the end of the main network name. Since my router provides seamless roaming, the new extender should not have displayed as a separate choice. I unplugged the old extender, pressed the reset and went through the WPS setup again for the new one. It displayed properly after that without the EXT identifier. The other issue involved placement of the extender on the bookshelf and the connection quality. Initially, it displayed solid green which was good, then it displayed solid orange which meant the connection to the router was weak. It went back and forth between green and orange. I messed with the antennas and lost the signal. I had to go through the WPS setup again. After that, I placed the extender about 2 feet to the right on the same bookshelf. It turned solid green and I have had no problems since. Results: The old extender (AC1900 / RE7000) helped in one end of the house. The end near where it was placed. The new extender (AC3000) helped in both ends where the signal was weaker. I checked the signal, both bands, without an extender, with the old extender, and with the new extender. I tested it using a Windows laptop (Lenovo Yoga), a Windows cell phone (Lumia 735), a Windows tablet (Stream 7), a Fire tablet and an iPhone (C5). All showed a signal improvement in the areas where it was weakest before. One benefit that I noticed that’s beyond my understanding involves the 5 GHz band. In my previous setup without this new extender, my Windows phone (Lumia 735) and Windows tablet (Stream 7) never gave me the option to select a 5 GHz band. My only choice was 2.4 GHz band. Now I have the 2 choices and the 5 GHz band signal strength is strong in all areas of my home. In summary, what I like: the fast WPS setup. Even though I had to go through it 3 times (my fault), it took very little time overall, the improved range and signal strength, the availability of the 5 GHz band for all my wireless products, the fact that this extender has antennas - I knew my signal had to improve over my previous set-up, the band steering / seamless roaming, so the wireless device uses the best signal for the current location within the house (the router must be capable like mine was), the fact that this extender has 4 gigabit ethernet ports available, which is going to be a definite plus for many users, and that there are only the 2 Wi-Fi choices and no extended networks (if set up wirelessly) I can recommend this extender. I think you could expect similar results if you have it paired with the appropriate router and had similar issues. For me, it is just what the doctor ordered.
One button set up with the WPS feature was quick and painless. After pressing the WPS button and waiting only a short time before the green light indicator came on was a pleasant change from others I've tried where I had to drag out a Ethernet cable and physically connect the gateway router to an extender and having to log in to a manufactures web site to set one up. This range extender has a small physical footprint but is huge on features and performance such as seamless roaming, tri-band Wi-Fi, spot finder mobile app, and up to a 10,000 square foot range which makes covering most applications a breeze. The house is challenging since there is a 20 foot wide solid brick feature from floor to ceiling as you enter the front door with a fireplace on the opposite side. ... The house is challenging since there is a 20 foot wide solid brick feature from floor to ceiling as you enter the front door with a fireplace on the opposite side. My plan was to hopefully place this extender on a side way shelf as close to possible to one of the open areas that the brick wall wasn't blocking with out blocking the signal to the rest the single story home and the adjustable antennas were just the ticket. Success!! Now not only is a strong Wi-Fi signal available past the brick wall but it also extends through out the rest of the home as well as in the back and front yards thanks to some large windows on both exterior walls. My son in law is a dedicated gamer and even with other family members online at the same time on a variety of devices from laptops to cell phones I didn't hear any grumbling about his game response slowing down. I imagine I'll be repeating another setup in the near future at his home when his purchase arrives as well. The 4 gigabit Ethernet ports will also be helpful to ensure seamless streaming on my TV. Frequently I need to be on my laptop for WebEx conference calls which until now I've always been tethered to an Ethernet cable but no more since the response and Wi-Fi strength is such that I should be able to move around my property to find a quiet spot for calls should others be at home as well. This extender is a great product and value with a painless install. Linksys has got all the bases covered with this product.
The Re9000 allows one to connect to your router via RJ45 or wirelessly. For my application I ran a 10base-t cable from the router to the desired location in back of my home entertainment system about 35 feet away to foonevt the Re9000. I had a fair amount of Alexa/Echo device that required a stronger signal to work properly in this room. Before I installed the Re9000 it was hit or miss operating the Alexa devices. Another Plus of the Re9000 is the four 10base-t ouput ports. I was able to use these ports to hardware to variously devices like the TV etc. The increased wireless signal strength gained in this room has my Alexia/Echo workings well. I was able to use these ports to hardware to variously devices like the TV etc. The increased wireless signal strength gained in this room has my Alexia/Echo workings well. The hard wired devices are working great. If I add other devices I have a four port switch that can be added to the Re9000, to expand the four ports to gain two more ports. One port on both devices has to be dedicated to a cable to connect the two devices the Re9000 / switch. So the net result is 6 ports not 8. I am using the same SSID as the router on the Re9000 as I require this to work this way. The only negative that those wireless devices now on this same SSID have a slight latency to now turn on and off the Alexia/Echo devices. I don't as yet have a technical answer to avoid the latency. As a guess there may be collisions occurring between the router and the Re9000. The latency is minor so I will likely leave it working this way. I should add one floor down I have a wireless range extender one floor down also on the same SSID. Hence my guess of possible network packages colliding. I haven't called Linksys yet to get there opinion and or work arounds. But the bottom line is the Re9000 working as desired.
Time will tell but it was easy to set up then just plug in in the area I needed it and it solved my weak wifi signal problem. It's handy that it just plugs in and don't need to worry about wall mounting it or anything. Fortunately I had a high-up GPO in the area but one at 300 mm off floor would probably have been ok. I like that I could have returned it to Good Guys if it didn't do the job (but it did so no worry) and also the 3 year warranty. I picked a Tplink extended as my modem router is Tplink for maximum compatibility and the RE305 seemed like the right price point.
Since originally setting up the EA8300 Max-Stream router in an upstairs office, we struggled with low signal strength downstairs in the living room with the TV. We sat watching television while catching up on the cell phone but wi-fi reception was poor, and the Amazon wireless Fire TV stick had trouble keeping up. So it was good timing to receive the Linksys RE9000 MU-MIMO Range Extender for review! This unit looked to do a better job at strengthening the wi-fi signal to the downstairs and make it easier to stay connected. My arrangement required me to run a LAN cable from the desktop computer to the extender for programming and setup. That made it more time consuming for me but you may not have to do it that way. My arrangement required me to run a LAN cable from the desktop computer to the extender for programming and setup. That made it more time consuming for me but you may not have to do it that way. All the possible installation options are listed in the instructions. Using the WPS buttons on router and extender transferred all the necessary info in the router to the extender. Once programmed you only had to find the best signal in the target area and plug it back in. The extender started up and worked immediately. The best feature to me was the option to use just one network name and password for both bands. There was now no need to use the "_ext" tag to differentiate the router from the extender. With this seamless roaming the best channel and the best signal will automatically be applied to your device. Walking upstairs and downstairs the hand-off was indeed seamless. Having to choose which band or signal to use is no longer a problem. The other feature I appreciated was the LAN ports on the extender. Since I installed my extender near my entertainment center, the Fire TV has a stronger wi-fi signal than before and I can also connect a LAN cable to the smart TV and the Blu-ray player. That's a lot of flexibility for an extender. The biggest benefit is now a strong signal at the router and at the extender, so moving around the upstairs and downstairs is no longer an exercise in futility. The signal is now solid and strong no matter where we go. While the RE9000 range extender works with all routers, Linksys has designed it to be more powerful and efficient when used with one of its own Max-Stream routers. That's been a win-win for me!

The router failed to connect through WPS and also with PIN method. The connection type that worked was the browser method and there you can adjust the setting and configurations. Finding the sweet spot with the signal finder was simple and through automatic setting/switching/band steering features no changes was needed to be made. If your router supports these feature you can keep all your setting and network name. The network has just one network name on either bands (2.4 or 5 GHz) and there is no need to change networks for strongest signal. These features have worked well and so far I have not had signal drops. The results with the area range of extender has been good with coverage in front/ backyards and garage. For a test I stressed the network with multiple streams in an attempt to break. There was no issues of lagging or connection problems so test passed. The network keeps an high signal and offer decent speeds. With IPhone 8 the highest speed gotten on network after speed test was 75 Mbps and 10 Mbps upload, but the average was 45 to 50 Mbps. This is also the average on the laptops. In ending this extender is an upgrade from previous models with good speed and area coverage. The new features such as band steering and automatic switching are must have to make the network work easier.
I bought this to use with a ZTE H268A NBN modem / router and a desktop with a wired Gigabit ethernet port. Setup to get the RE650 connected to the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz SSIDs broadcast by my router was relatively painless, although I did initially have to disable MAC filtering on the router to get it working. The process to re-enable MAC address filtering again on the router was fairly painful because there were quite a few unadvertised MAC addresses used by the RE650 that had to be added to my router's white list. The RE650 also modifies the MAC address of wireless devices connected to it (eg a phone), so you will have to add the modified MAC address to the router's whitelist as well as its actual MAC address. So that took a while, and required some networking trouble-shooting skills, but it has been working fine ever since. The bandwidth and latency between the RE650 and H268A is excellent, and I now have fast and responsive internet on my desktop. I can easily stream an 30GB blu-ray rip from the desktop to my Xbox One, and game streaming from my Xbox One to the desktop is very smooth and responsive. It has been on 24x7 since I set it up and there have not been any stability issues or drop outs. It feels like a well-made unit and is reasonably sizeable. For instance I have it plugged into the right hand port of a double power point and it does cover the left hand port as well. This has stopped me from adding my switch into the picture so I can connect my printer over the ethernet port as well, but an offsetting adapter will take care of that.
