TP-Link TL-SG116 16 Port Gigabit Desktop Switch

In a market where larger port switches are either eye-waveringly expensive or come with noisy fans, this workgroup switch is brilliant. We’ve fitted it as a backplane device in a wardrobe where it needs to be silent, and it fits the bill. Seems to saturate GigE no problems, just-works installation (as you’d expect), love it. It boots up pretty fast too - If you need to power cycle it will be ready before you are. Note that it uses a wall wart style power adapter (no doubt to be fanless) so you’ll need to allow for a slightly larger power plug space.

A great choice for a budget switch

I was looking for a cheap switch because I just upgraded to fiber and I would be filling up my Plex server, and I wanted to put everything on wired connections. This worked out perfectly for me, I consistently get 1Gbps transferring large files to my server, without issue. TP-Link is a brand that's known and trusted. Might not be a high-end switch, but I really just use it for 2-3 machines, and the speed is fine. I would think that most people would find this router perfect for average network requirements. Bonus that I bought it open-box, so I got it for even cheaper than it normally sells for. I would recommend this switch.

A great product at a cheap price

When you don't need a Wi-Fi splitter, this is a great alternative. Very simple setup. Very easy to use. No complaints at all. I have multiple systems drawing out of the same splitter without an issue. Definitely recommend this.

Connect multiple devices without loosing performance

I was having problems with my smart TV using wifi. As it was next to my PC. As my PC is connected to my router via an ethernet I connected the switch to the ethernet socket and connected my TV and PC to the switch. TV now works fine, and PC runs with no effect on speed. I advise you use an online broadband speed checker when you first make the connection as my went from 125Meg to 30Meg at first. This turned out to be a faulty cable. Cable was replaced and speed back to 125Meg.

Does the job

Used this to replace a router I was using to branch off to another computer and a direct-connected security camera. That router had to be constantly reset about every 2-3 days. Not sure why, but the security camera would go offline and not be responsive until I reset the router, which I was using as an ethernet extension and multi-connection hub. Since replacing that router with this switch, I have not had the security camera go offline once. It's been about a month and a half, now, and I haven't had to reset it, yet. Hopefully, it will continue to function this way and, from all indications, I believe this to be the case. Reliable unit for a nice price w eco-friendly case

I've been running this unit for about a month to network my NAS and home automation. It has given me no problems and transfer is fast. I chose the metal case version as it is more recycleable than the plastic version. For less than $20, I am very happy with this switch.

Simple is better

I've used TP-Link switches for years. We'd use them at work (hospital IT) when we needed to split a connection and a simple, forget about it switch would do the job.At home, it is a reliable and simple switch that lets me connect computers to my home network without using WiFi at a price that's difficult to beat. I fully expect the thing to last long enough to be obsolete over broken.

TP-Link 4-port switch

I was bridging an older Archer C5 to a C7 when I upgraded my root router to a new WIFI6 protocol router. The C5 (and the C7) failed to bridge to it. I ended up buying an RE220 extender and needed a switch to hook everything up in my office to get it back online. Combined with the RE2200, it works great. The setup runs a bit faster than the bridge setup I had previously, although I do miss having the extra USB connection. For $14, it was well worth it.
