There's a few ways to use it, first is as above as a VPN, or multiple devices can share a connection (such as caravan parks that only have 1 connection per unit) or via ethernet (although they're becoming less and less in motels), as a wifi extender. It's even got a USB for wireless file sharing and quick charging devices. Being that it's from TP-Link also means I generally won't have any problems with it in 12 months (like D-Link). I've changed over a lot of my wifi devices to TP-Link and find they're easy to setup, use and are fairly reliable.

Not good for a WISP situation where need to roam between APs
23 January 2018

Can't believe this thing requires to pick a specific AP when using WISP mode. This is ok if on a plane, but if on a cruise ship or hotel and you want to roam and have this auto jump, then get a different product. Also, I wanted 2.4 and 5Ghz for flexibility etc. Hindsight, I know now 2.4 is all you need since it gets the most range. Having 5Ghz is just using more power and un-necessary, the WISP WAN connection ALWAYS has to use the 2.4Ghz Antenna, the 5Ghz can be disabled. After a couple days I was disappointed about not roaming on the cruise ship, then at the end the trip the thing would suddenly stop advertising the LAN SSID and random times making it useless. I then tried to find a firmware upgrade and I see their is one upgrade version but only for the UK ... MoreCan't believe this thing requires to pick a specific AP when using WISP mode. Returning this one now as defective. Go find a 2.4G only one, with WISP, and make sure it can roam WAN APs easily and has been on the market for awhile with firmware updates.

Poor selection of 5GHz channels reduces performance potential
12 June 2021

This device won't connect to the 5GHz hotspot on my Samsung Galaxy S20, only the 2.4GHz. This is disappointing as the performance is far better on 5GHz. It only supports a handful of lower channels, the phone uses a higher 5GHz channel and this can't be changed. I can connect to the lower channels on my home router but it significantly degrades the performance (and I don't need to use it at home in any case). I believe this product isn't optimised for Australian Wifi frequencies. It works ok on 2.4GHz for occasional use but if performance is important to you I suggest you look at alternative products.

Review of TP-LINK TL-WR902AC WiFi Cable & Fibre Router - AC 750, Dual-band
4 November 2020

Good Points: Brilliant little device as a very low price. The option of using it in several different modes makes it an extremely flexible device. For what you get it is an exremely low price, I'm absolutely happy with it.Improvement Points: These aren't really "not likes", more things to be aware of. You probably need a rough idea of what you are doing with computers before you could set this up. Also the useful range is relatively short, it will cover the room you put it in and rooms next door but not much further.

Right size and pretty powerful.
10 August 2021

I needed a way to link wifi enabled gear while traveling. Since hotels generally block interdevice communication to avoid hacking, I needed a way to connect my devices without going through the hotel network. The AC750 is just the thing, small, easy to connect and powerful enough to reach across several rooms if needed. Setup was fairly easy using the online manual. Much handier than taking a full sized router. The only con is that there is no built in battery. So, it must be powered via USB charger, laptop USB, or plugged into AC. It would be nice if it had its own rechargeable battery.

This is just what I was looking for and needing. I am SO SO HAPPY The Lord led me to this router here from B&H! It is working GREAT! I love the advancements from our last router with the external manual switch for settings on this one!For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
