If you're not put off by the full manual nature of this lens and lack of EXIF data, then you should just go ahead and spend the $100. Build quality is excellent, and the optical performance of my copy is very, very good. In an absolute sense not just for the money. It's sharp in the broad center wide open, gains a bit more contrast and sharpness in the center as you stop down (even just to f1.4-1.7 - the half-stop aperture clicks are lovely, BTW), and the corners come into pretty crisp sharpness as well by f3.5-4, though they never quite reach the center sharpness level. It's true that the odd aperture shape leads to unusual bokeh balls in OOF lights at anything other than wide open, but they aren't terribly distracting, and in images lacking strong highlights in ... It's true that the odd aperture shape leads to unusual bokeh balls in OOF lights at anything other than wide open, but they aren't terribly distracting, and in images lacking strong highlights in the OOF areas the bokeh remains creamy and smooth. I read somewhere that this was an intentional design to maintain bokeh smoothness as well as ensure 10-pointed sun-stars. There is some lateral CA, but it's pretty mild, bokeh CA is present, but adds character rather than being annoying. The flare characteristics are very gentle and soft in my experience, and have a very vintage cast. All in all the images I get out of the ttartisan 50/1.2 feel very much like a high quality vintage lens, not a cheap modern lens. I think that's a real compliment, and the main reason I'm so satisfied with my purchase. You could probably find an SMC Takumar 50/1.4 in near perfect condition for the same price, but then you'd need an adapter and the overall package would be bulkier, if not, perhaps heavier than the ttartisan lens. But you'll never get an MC Rokkor 58/1.2, Canon FD 50/1.2, Nikkor 50/1.2 AIS, or a Sonnar 50/1.5 for this cheap, and that's the company this lens lives with, with better bokeh than some, better CA control than most of those classics, and also better sharpness and contrast wide open. This lens is an absurd bargain. If it were AF, or even just had aperture data it'd be 5 stars at twice the $$.

This is an OMG! lens. Sharp, fast, and a bokeh beast.I was shocked at the quality of the lens and at the quality of the photos it takes. Incredible lens, period, regardless of its low price. It's just a really nifty fifty.Focus peaking on the Nikon Zfc allows great in-focus shots. And wide open shots with extremely narrow DOF and wonderful bokeh. And, aesthetically, the silver version on the Zfc is so beautifully retro. The only trouble with this lens is that it gets stuck on my camera. ?? I have four other fine auto-focus Z lenses, but this totally manual lens is my goto lens on my Zfc.I simply love it and recommend it without reservation.RDB

Before you spend more you might want to try out this lens. I spent more...WAY more...for Zeiss glass and L series lenses and my Olympus Pro series 12-40mm lens. While they're all good...so is this lens. Don't let the low price fool you. This lens is well made and I'm completely satisfied with the pictures it provides. Yes, it's a manual focus only lens...but I like that. I use it with my Olympus OM-D E-M1 mirrorless camera. That camera has in-body image stabilization and the ability to zoom in to make it easy to get perfect focus every time. The image stabilization makes me forget I'm 73 years old and sometimes a bit shaky. To top it all off this silver lens looks great on my silver bodied E-M1 (shown with lens, a cheap generic lens hood, and an RRS L plate).

I've had this lens for about a month and have found it to be a great lens regardless of the price. I've put it to use in a variety of settings and have been incredibly happy with the results. The build quality is amazing, the focus and aperture rings are easy to use, and I have found that the image quality stands up really well even when compared to my much more expensive Nikon 50mm f1.8.This is definitely an old school lens, as opposed to one packed full of tech features. Have I missed focus on a few images that I wish I hadn't? Of course. But that is a me problem, not a lens problem.Using this lens has forced me to slow down, and be more intentional when I am taking photos. I was honestly a bit nervous buying this lens but for only $100 I figured it wouldn't be much of a loss if I didn't like it. Seeing the cheap packaging didn't make me feel too much better about the purchase but once I opened the box, I wound up being very surprised by how great this lens looked (minus the tacky logo) and felt in my hand. This solid metal lens definitely feels very premium with a nice distinct click on the aperture ring, a very smooth focus ring, and in my case a nice snug fit onto my Fujifilm X-T4. Overall the lens is very sharp aside from being wide open and the vignetting disappears by f4. There is also quite a bit of chromatic aberration in high contrast areas but that and the vignetting are so easy to fix in Lightroom so I don't consider it an ... The lens definitely has its quirks but it was nothing that made me feel like this lens was a bad deal and in some cases, I actually like the imperfections when paired with my Fujifilm. If you're looking for a lens to use for commercial work, I would wonder why you were considering this lens in the first place but for more artistic applications this lens is a great option that punches well above its weight even for professional applications where absolute perfect image quality and auto focus are not a necessity. I'm now very interested in trying the other lenses that TTArtisan has to offer. I just wish they would change their logo!
Why am I rating this at 5 stars? Because I enjoy using the lens. My copy "glows" wide open, but I use that with a B&W recipe and I love it. Stopped down and it really is an excellent lens for the money. A tad heavy, but this lens is built like a tank, with all metal and glass. Focus is short and sweet and works well with focus peaking and unless you get a bad copy, you can never go wrong with it. I wish the minimum focusing distance is closer than 1.5 feet, but not really an issue for the most part. I mainly use EVF when shooting with this lens as it's easier for me and easier to focus.Colors are great and the contrast is just right. It also excels in B&W.The screw on lens cap is a bit fiddly, but I have the same lens caps on my vintage lenses. I just bought a generic plastic lens cap when I'm out and about. All in all, the lens is a good buy and what's important is enjoying it and looking at the whole picture, not pixel peep.Try it and see....
Bought this lens for my Fujifilm X-T4 mainly as a portrait lens with potential for low light use in other genres after having previously purchased TTARTISAN'S 35mm F/1.4. I found it has the same, high quality construction feel as my prior purchase. As I would only use these lenses for still photography, I prefer the clicked aperature ring. The focus ring is nicely damped to hold your selected focus without being overly stiff. Image quality is impressive at this price. Manual focus aides on the camera make it easy to use manual lenses, and my X-T4's IBIS means camera shake is less of an issue at lower shutter speeds. Only quirky thing about their lenses is the screw on metal cap. As this is not convenient for quick removal/installation I bought a separate lens hood ... Only quirky thing about their lenses is the screw on metal cap. As this is not convenient for quick removal/installation I bought a separate lens hood that had it's own plastic cap with pinch release. I did the same for my 35mm lens. The metal cap is only suited for secure longer term storage.
I needed to add shot flexibility beyond my Leica Elmarit 18mm, but without spending thousands. This TTArtisan filled the bill, and surprised me with its performance.Having majored in photography in college back in the 1980s, I'm most comfortable with the control that manual metering, focus, aperture, and shutter speed bring to my shots. This lens allows me to manually control focus and depth-of-field without having to override settings via my TL2's touchscreen. This brings back for me the image control I grew accustomed to when shooting with my old film SLRs, but the fact that I'm so pleased with the resultant images, is icing on the cake.
Using my Fuji mirrorless camera focusing aids- accurate focus is easy. Not auto focus? No problem- just takes more time. Resulting photos are beautiful. To be clear, this is not a lens for birds in flight or an indoor basketball game. You must focus carefully for best results. That precision using the lens at f1.2 means slow down. The lens- all metal. Focusing ring smooth, just enough resistance, feels very good. Aperture ring clicks with precision. If photography for you is pixel peeping at 200% this may not be what you want. But if you just use it to take photos - you will enjoy the lens, the process and the results. For the price you can't beat its performance. I'll start with the fact that manual lenses currently exist for those who like to focus manually.
