I love the size, build, and sharpness of this lens. It's not perfect: I've experienced pretty significant flare in certain conditions, F1.7 does not give quite as much bokeh as 1.4, and minimum focusing distance is pretty large. But when you know it's limitations, they can be accounted for and the end result is pretty amazing portraits. I teach high school students, and at this price, every camera kit can have this lens in the bag.

This is not a good lens for the price...This is a good lens period. Light, small, portable... and most important of all... excellent optics.My personal sweet spot is F3 on this lens, but after taking several pictures, I have found that even wide open the lens takes very decent pictures with great color and detail.This lens is comparable to the Fuji XC line of lenses. it doesn't have an aperture ring, it is made of plastic but the optics were not sacrificed in any way.This lens is an absolute no-brainer. The value I got from this lens far surpasses its asking price. It is almost too good to be true. Seriously... thank you Viltrox!!!!!

I bought this lens for my Z50 Nikon , I own the Viltrox 20mm 2.8 lens for my Nikon Z5, I was impressed by the results and by the solid construction of this lens . This is why I bought the Viltrox 56 mm 1.7 for portraits and as short telephoto. This is a good quality lens , optically, build and cosmetically. Mechanically the 56 mm acuratally works well with the Z camera. This lens is nice and light , AF IS FAST AND ACCURATE, also very easily focuses manually !
Considering the low cost, this lens provides surprisingly good IQ. The image is well-centered and the AF works well, though not at lightening speed. The only disappointment is it doesn't focus quite closely enough. Wide open one needs to focus carefully as the DOF is narrow indeed.
Really nice lens. Love the size and build quality. Feels way more expensive than a sub $200 lens. Nice sharp photos and the autofocus motor is quiet and quick…. Indistinguishable from my other Nikkor lenses.
This little lens produces excellent images, I did have some issues with the auto focus at the beginning, had to install a firmware update, but after that the images are excellent, very happy with that! only complain is can’t focus when the lens is too close to the subject, this is my first 56mm, I used 35 mm before and can be very close to a subject, this one I need to keep some distance otherwise have to use the manual focus. Overall it’s a pretty good light weight lens.
I kept my expectations in check because of the price despite the great reviews on YouTube. Wow was I surprised. This lens is sharp. Very sharp corner to corner even wide open. It's only optical shortcoming is pronounced vignetting wide open which is easily correctable in post. If the 56mm focal length (84mm equivalent) works for you there is no reason not to have this lens in your bag.
