Another great upgrade over previous models is that this headphone is compatible with several devices by use of a dongle that is supplied in the box and that is designed to be set to Xbox or USB. With the USB setting, the headphones are compatible with PCs, PS5, Ps4, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC. When the dongle is set to the Xbox setting it is compatible with the Xbox series XIS and Xbox One. The headphones are wireless, and I found them to have no lag as advertised. The literature says that they are lag-free and designed with Turtle Beach’s “proprietary low-latency 2.4 GHz wireless connection which optimizes gaming audio & chat in real-time for a lag-free gameplay advantage”. I found the audio to be exceptionally good and to be clear and lag free. There are two volume controls that seemed a little dull to the touch and not as responsive as some, but independently they control the chat and game volumes as they are designed to do. They just feel a little rubbery rather than solid which I would have equated to have been more exact. One of my favorite features is the drop-down mic. Moving the mic arm up mutes the mic and even moving it halfway up mutes the mic. I like how it can also be adjusted toward the mouth or away from the face and still be highly effective. But the most impressive features for me are the instant pairing, preset sounds, and exclusive Superhuman Hearing. The instant pairing is a hassle-free way to get up and running and by downloading Turtle Beach’s Audio Hub you can instantly upgrade firmware and software as needed. The presets of the Signature Sound, Bass Boost, Bass Treble Boost and Vocal Boost can be toggled through by using the Mode button. These are all surprisingly good audio. The Superhuman hearing mode is a little different and takes a little getting used to, but it does allow one to pinpoint quiet audio cues like imaginary sounds that could be real enemy footsteps or reloading weapons. This feature can be activated or deactivated as desired by the gamer. Overall, I found this to be an incredibly good gaming headphone. Being all plastic makes it exceptionally light but might also present problems if it is bent or stretched too often. The price is great for all of the amenities, and I would definitely recommend its purchase especially since the audio is great and it can be used with so many different platforms just by having the dongle.

The superhuman hearing also does actually seem to really zero in on the sounds of footsteps, movement, and gunfire. It definitely is a major advantage in any sort of competitive shooter. -ergonomics The headset is very light weight, with enough clamping pressure so you don't feel like it will fly off but not too much where it gets uncomfortable to wear for long periods. I used mine on a PlayStation 5 and I have to say that very little is given up by using the Stealth 600 with a PS5. First I want to say that I had an issue updating the firmware which is the first thing the instructions advise you to do. The newest Windows and MacBook laptops in our house no longer have a USB-A port on them, and you need two of them to update the firmware - one for the headset cord and the other for the transmitter dongle. On the MacBook, I tried using a USB-A to USB-C adapter on the cable that comes with the headset, but the Turtle Beach Audio Hub software refused to recognize that the headset was plugged into the MacBook. I tried two different brands of adapters and the result was the same each time. I used an old Windows laptop that had built-in USB-A ports and was able to connect to the headset and check for updates and make adjustments. When I plugged the transmitter into my PS5, I did try using it with a USB-A to USB-C adapter and plugged it into the front USB-C port on the PS5 and the transmitter DID work just fine. The box also calls out that the headset is “Glasses Friendly”. I do wear eyeglasses, but I did find that when using the headset with my glasses on, while it was comfortable enough, I did hear some squeaking and creaking when I moved my head or jaw that had to have been from the ear cup pads rubbing on the bows of my glasses. When I took my glasses off, I no longer heard the noise. The headset provides good clamping force on my head without being uncomfortable and the ear pads were able to accommodate my ears fine. Other headsets will move around on my head when I tilt forward and feel like they might slip off, but the Stealth 600 did not feel this way. Of course, everyone’s head and ear size and shape are different, so comfort is a totally subjective assessment for different users. The left ear cup of the headset is a busy place as that is where all of the controls reside and the fold-up microphone boom is there too. There is nothing happening on the right side ear cup. Besides the usual push on/push off power switch, rotary wheel volume control and USB-C port to charge the headset, there is a “Mode” button and another rotary wheel that has different functions depending on what gaming system you are using the headset with. The Mode button cycles between four different equalizer settings: “Signature Sound”, “Bass Boost”, “Treble Boost”, and “Vocal Boost”. The headset emits 1 to 4 beeps when you change modes so you can tell which of the four you just entered. I am happy to report that there are noticeable differences between these four modes and everyone should be able to find one that suits them for any gaming situation. In addition the power button has another function called “Superhuman Hearing”, which in essence boosts both the volume and the treble to help you hear quiet sounds in some games that will tip you off to what is happening around you. A fast push and release of the power button turns this feature on or off - to actually turn the headset on or off, you need top press and hold the button for a second or so until the unit gives off a couple quick beeps. The packaging and the Quick Start Guide mention a couple features that are available only when the headset is being used with an Xbox gaming system. First is a “Surround Sound” effect that is an Xbox exclusive. I can’t comment on that because I do not own an Xbox. The other is that second rotary wheel on the left ear cup will adjust the mix of game sound and chat sound you hear through the headset. When using a different system, this wheel adjusts the microphone monitoring effect - how strong you hear your own voice through the headset. It has no effect on the level of your voice that other chat participants will hear. It’s kind of disappointing that the game/chat mix function does not work with the PS5. During a chat session, if you want to mute your microphone so others cannot hear what you are saying, swinging the boom mic up into the stored location (or the part-way stored, intermediate click stop) will cut off the mic and swinging it down all the way will make it “hot” again. If you have the USB transmitter plugged into a front panel port of your gaming system, the light on it will be green when the mic is on and will pulse red when the mic is muted to give you a visual reminder if you have the microphone muted or not. The headset uses the 2.4GHz frequency to communicate between the transmitter and headset which is preferable for this type of device, so there is no Bluetooth capability to allow it to communicate with your smart phone and use it for mobile gaming or to take a phone call. The headset comes with the USB transmitter and a 24-inch long USB-A to USB-C charging cord (thick, and somewhat stiff) that would have been nice if it were somewhat longer. While not made of materials befitting a set of audiophile headphones, the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 2 MAX is sturdily made from mostly plastic with fabric covered ear pads (removable and offered as a replacement part from the manufacturer) and a soft padded head band, and seems to be sturdily constructed. The features offered seem to be very generous for the price point they are set at. I can’t think of anything else gamers could ask for, and I would guess that most would be very satisfied with the performance of this headset.

Battery life is excellent, I charged them when they arrived, gamed with them over four nights for a few hours per night and my oldest son used them for hours listening to music while he did his homework, all still on the initial charge so far. One thing that I would like to see changed, I have the strap adjusted to the longest position and I could really use just a little more length. I have trouble finding hats that fit also so I guess I have a really big head? LOL. I tried the different eq modes and was able to find a setting I liked for each game, mostly I ended up at either mode 1 or 4. The one thing that I did not expect was how far off you can hear other player’s footsteps in a game like Fortnite with headphones on! I could hear other players much earlier than you get the footstep graphic on the visual sensor on the screen. The 3D audio helps with this also so I know which way to turn when I hear someone approaching. The range on the transmitter seems pretty awesome too. Obviously, you’re likely to be right by your gaming console most of the time but my oldest was listening to music with them in the house and went to take the trash out to the curb and said he never lost reception. That’s got to be almost 50 ft from the console to the curb! Only real problem that I have to report is that I think we’ll need a second pair since my son is always borrowing mine!

They also did a great job of blocking other sounds that were happening in the room. I had a tv on in the back ground and once the headphones were on, I could no longer hear it. The Mic worked very well as everyone could clearly hear me when I spoke. The controls are very easy to use and I really do like the volume and mic volume to be wheels instead of buttons. It makes it a lot easier to adjust when playing games. You can also mute the mic by flipping it to the closed position. This is nice if you want to quickly mute yourself. The mode button is used to adjust the built in equalizer. I had it on the enhance bass and vocals setting and they sounded great. The other equalizer settings worked as well, but I found the bass and vocals one to be the best fit for me. I also didn't notice any delay or syncing issues with sound when watching tv with them. Pros: Comfortable Great Sound Reasonable Price Sound is comparable to a more expensive over the ear headset Easy to use controls Long battery life Cons: These are not huge but figured its worth mentioning. The USB receiver is very tiny (could get lost easily) Headphones themselves do not have a way to store USB receiver No Bluetooth I only gave four stars instead of 5 because the few cons it has. It would have been nice to have a bluetooth option so you can use these headphones for travel. However I do understand these are gaming headphones and designed for travel use. At the end of the day these are great buy and I look forward to using them for gaming or watching stuff on my computer. The blue color on the headphones is more of a royal blue, not light blue like the product image shows.

The controls are located on the left cup, and are very easy to use. I'm not a fan of the 'tap to adjust' system that so many headphones are using these days, so having physical dials and buttons are a big plus for me. There's a volume dial for both the main volume and the mic, a 'mode' button for the preset equalizer and the 'superhuman hearing' mode (more on that later). I had no trouble at all connecting to the dongle once it was charged and I was ready to play. Turtle Beach claims a range of 30 feet and game time of up to 15 hours before needing a recharge. I was only close to the maximum range once (when I went to grab a drink from the fridge) and still heard the music perfectly well. I've used the headphones for two weeks now and haven't needed to recharge, with a little game play (30 minutes) on some nights, and one extended weekend session of a couple of hours, so honestly they may be a little low in their estimation. Now to the important stuff--the sound quality was excellent! Turtle Beach mentions the size of the speaker (50mm!) and all the extras they included for better, higher-quality sound, and I'm happy to report they aren't wrong! The sound was big, loud when it needed to be, and crystal clear. There are a few 'preset' modes for EQ that made a difference when listening to music, and the simulated surround is some of the best I've heard through headphones. At this price point it's really about as well as you can do for sound quality. My favorite sound mode to use in shooters is the "superhuman hearing" mode. At first I was skeptical. I mean, how much of a difference could that make? Turns out it's HUGE. Playing Overwatch with this mode on I could hear EVERYTHING--footsteps, doors, gunfire, etc--and it was all directionally accurate! Turtle Beach advertises that these will help you live longer in games, and that certainly seems true thanks to the lag-free, crystal clear audio cues. I play a lot of team shooters, and I'm still kind of stunned that 1) they were able to do this as accurately as they have, and 2) it's not in every headset out there! It's certainly not required to play, and isn't necessary for every game out there, but for shooters this mode is a must have for me now! The mic is...okay. The 'flip to mute' setting is innovative and much easier than trying to fumble for a button to mute. My biggest issue is the fixed position, which felt a little far from my mouth and, indeed, teammates couldn't always hear me very clearly. I suppose there's no real way to do the flip-mute option with an adjustable mic, but I far prefer adjustable over fixed. With a larger head like mine the mic can seem very far away. Another drawback is the dongle as opposed to Bluetooth connectivity, but I assume that's another cost-effective measure. Just know that in order to use these headphones you will be down a port (and the PS5 doesn't have a lot of those, unfortunately, though using a standard USB-expander can solve that for a little extra money on the front ports of a PS5). Overall these are worth what you're paying for them, just keep in mind the limitations and plan around them. If you want excellent sound quality for gaming and media at a low price compared to most, you won't do much better than these at this price point, especially if you play a lot of shooters. Unfortunately if you play a lot of team shooters the mic may not be the best option. If you have other accessories plugged into your PS5 you will want to look into USB expanders as well.

While they are very similar in looks, there are some notable differences that I’ll cover in this review. These are nice looking black headphones and you’ll notice that they are light, but well padded once you take them out of the box. The packaging comes with a USB-A to USB-C charging cable, an instruction book with a sticker and a dongle that allows the use of this headset on any console or PC, but it’s primarily focused on working with Xbox in this case. I will only be reviewing how it worked on my Xbox Series X. The band is well padded and the ear cushions are not leather, which I prefer. You can wear these for hours with no issues and they seem a bit larger than the previous Gen 2’s that I have. I have a very large head and have a tough time getting over the ear headsets to fit me, but there was no issue with the fit on these. The microphone is very clear and I had no reports of any issues with my voice in my party chat. Flipping the mic up to mute is also super convenient as you don’t have to fumble for the mute button when trying to quickly mute the headset. Connectivity was easy. Just plug the receiver into a free USB port on your Xbox and flip the switch to “Xbox”. Done. Mic monitoring is at a set level unless you connect it to your PC and load the Turtle Beach Hub to adjust this (although this wasn’t working yet during my review). Having separate dials for game volume and chat volume is great as well. There are several EQ modes, but I prefer the “signature” sound as that’s pretty much a flat studio reference sound. I do occasionally turn on “superhuman hearing” when playing competitively and while this is a good feature, most casual players won’t need to be switching this on as it muddles the sound a lot. Sound quality was above average. The 50mm drivers, while not audiophile quality, provide a nice enough sound that should get loud enough for most people. Highs were clear, mids were decent and the low end wasn't muddled. Audio connectivity was good, except for one random disconnect I had during usage. Having owned the original Stealth 600 headset that used the native Xbox wireless audio and experiencing a lot of oddities with the stability of the connectivity, I wondered how these would work as they have a dedicated 2.4ghz wireless dongle for audio. I believe Turtle Beach may have opted to return to using their own USB dongle due to alleviate some of these issues as the connection on this headset seems to be much better than in the 1st generation headset. Battery life is fantastic on this headset. 48 hours is almost double and sometimes triple the amount of battery life in other comparably priced headsets. This is pretty great as having one less item to charge at the end of every gaming session is always a plus. I’ve yet to have to charge this headset, but you should be able to get a full charge in about 2 hours and 8.5 hours of battery life in 15 minutes. Overall, if you’re looking for a good quality, long lasting and comfortable headset for the Xbox or any other console, you really can’t go wrong with the Stealth 600 Gen 2 Max The only omission in this headset is the fact that there is no bluetooth connectivity so you can easily pair it to your phone and stream music/audiobooks, etc. If you want this feature, I’d suggest looking at the 700 Gen 2 Max instead, as that model does come with bluetooth support. Having to burn a USB port for the dongle is a bummer, but well worth it for the quality and stability you gain by using it.

Then you have a simple mic-level scroll wheel and above it the volume wheel. Now on to in-game performance a place where more of the engineering efforts are apparent. The sound is crisp and clear and very well balanced with a good amount of low-frequency performance without overdoing it. Even the bass is crisp while the highs are not overdone either. They have managed to balance the sound to where you hear even the smallest details like footsteps and other details that give you an edge and an awareness of your surroundings that can help you succeed in your mission in first-person shooter games. Another stand out in performance is the mic which isolates very well and only picks up background noise minimally. This enables you to hear the person you are talking to and still hear what is going on around you without crossover noise. This makes a big difference in your ability to focus on the task at hand and blocks out distractions. Excellent sound quality even when compared to headphones I have that are 3x the cost. Serious attention to detail throughout these headphones has not gone unnoticed. I feel like they will be a best seller in this price range and would definitely recommend them to anyone!

They may not be as accurate or clinical-sounding as more serious, audiophile-oriented offerings, but they are undeniably FUN to listen to without assaulting the senses with overbearing presence in one area of the spectrum or another. - You do not need an app to customize the EQ; the Mode button cycles through different EQ settings with corresponding tones (1-4 beeps) indicating Signature Sound, Bass Boost, Bass & Treble Boost, or Vocal Enhancement. Signature Sound was the nicest of the bunch; it's on the warmer side w/enough low-end bloom to add visceral “heft” to bass notes and explosions, while the mids and highs of piano notes, acoustic guitar strings, and female voices are rendered clear, fast, and detailed without becoming fatiguing or screechy. Against the much higher-priced Arctis Pro Wireless, the Stealth offers a fuller/"thicker” sound that simply delivers more oomph & presence across the entire spectrum; they are not as airy or polite as the Arctis, but they are fast and resolving enough to capture any delicate notes or subtle nuances of higher-quality audio recordings/game soundtracks. - The power button also toggles Turtle Beach’s “Superhuman Hearing” feature. Competitive gamers searching for subtle directional cues will appreciate this mode which enhances & amplifies certain elements of a game’s soundfield (enemy footsteps, distant dialogue, hidden passage/item indicators) making it easier to locate your targets on- or off-screen. - The flip-down boom mic almost completely integrates into the left earcup while the low-profile buttons and volume dials provide a seamless/uncluttered look. - Speaking of the mic, my teammates noticed just a HINT of emphasis in the higher frequencies that made my voice slightly easier to hear/understand during a crowded multiplayer session, but vocal quality was free of any overly processed/unnatural tinny sound that can plague lower-quality headset microphones. Just lift the boom up part way and a pair of falling tones indicates that the mic is muted; fully extend the mic again and a pair of rising tones confirms the mic is live. The boom is relatively short, so you won’t accidentally be smashing chips or the edge of a soda can into it while you’re playing, but it does pivot forward towards your mouth slightly to improve capture quality if you want. - Though not required, the Turtle Beach Audio Hub allows for firmware updates & two helpful volume adjustments; one for sidetone so you can tweak how loud your own voice sounds in your headset, and one for volume of the various status beeps & tones—this makes it easy to set EQ/Superhuman modes without having to don the headset itself. - Two separate dials offer total customization of chat volume (when used in Xbox mode) and game volume without having to trade-off levels between the two. When used on a computer, the chat dial controls sidetone volume instead. - Construction is all-plastic but doesn’t feel cheaply so; the heavy-duty headband can take a lot of twist and flex without creaking. Numbers & hash marks are visible through cutout windows in the headband so it is a snap to resize to your original settings after stowing the headset away or loaning it out to others. - Earpads feel like dense memory foam though surprisingly they did not force the stems of my Gunnar glasses into the sides of my face. The mesh coverings help with heat dissipation during long gaming sessions while the underside of the headband features more pillow-soft padding covered in a butter-smooth pleather material. - Like many wireless headsets, this one requires a USB dongle for zero-lag 2.4 Ghz connectivity. Turtle Beach gave its wireless transmitter a Swiss-Army knife’s worth of compatibility with a hardware switch that changes from native Xbox mode to USB compatibility for use with a PS4/PS5, PC/Mac, or Switch. There is also a USB-A to USB-C cable included, but it is for charging only. - Turtle Beach promises more than 48 hours of battery life; I haven’t had a marathon gaming session quite that long, but I used the headset for more than a week straight on a single charge and still didn’t get the low battery indicator on the headset. CONs: - Windows 11 reported the sampling rate for the Stealth 600 locked in at 16-bit/48kHz; although this is VERY good audio quality (DVD-level), it falls short of many higher definition bit-depths/sampling rates. If you use services like Tidal or Amazon Music HD, you will be missing out on some higher-resolution sound quality options which somewhat limits the flexibility of this headset as a “perfect” all-arounder - The Stealth feels sturdy enough to travel, but there is no case or even simple fabric sack included to keep the headset, charging cable, and dongle together. The earcups also do not fold perfectly flat making for oddball storage or packing limitations in a backpack or laptop bag. - Maybe I’m just getting old and prefer not to keep as much in my head anymore; but spoken status indicators would be a nice flourish rather than having to remember which set of beeps or tone patterns correspond to which mode of operation/setting. - The dongle's latest redesign takes a small hit in usability. Instead of an easy-to-reach pairing button, you now need to press a small pinhole button to start the re-paring sequence. The process is quick enough—maybe 5-10 seconds—but you’ll need to have a paperclip or SIM card removal tool handy if you ever need to re-pair the headset to the transmitter. I suppose this reduces the chance of accidentally restarting the pairing process, but any design feature that requires me to hunt down a separate tool just to press a button seems like an unnecessary penalty in usability. - "Superhuman Hearing" is an acquired taste that is probably best for REALLY competitive gamers playing games in very specific genres or needing to emphasize very specific types of environmental sound effects; the accentuation of select elements of the soundfield often rendered music or other effects a distorted or even harsh-sounding. In fairness, similar competitive “hearing enhancements” from other manufacturers do exactly the same thing so this is nothing specific against Turtle Beach’s solution. - Like last year’s model, the controls on the Stealth are troublesome (at best) to operate blind/by touch alone. The Mode button is precisely the same size and shape as the power button, is raised only slightly, and sits in line right next to the power button--meaning that I was forever fumbling around for the right button to change the sound profile or activate/deactivate Superhuman Hearing and constantly hitting the wrong one. The chat and volume dials are similarly spaced right on top of each other and offer the exact same profile, texture, and shape—futzing for the chat volume and changing the headset volume instead (or vice-versa) was a regular occurrence during play. You’ll get used to things over time I’m sure, but it was definitely frustrating to try making changes in the middle of a game and constantly coming up with the wrong control. - Again, just like last year’s model, vertical earcup pivot is incredibly limited—maybe only 5-10 degrees (pictured with this review). This, coupled with the aggressive curvature of the stiff headband, meant that inward clamping pressure became painful and fatiguing very fast. In practice, I could only wear the Stealths for about 15 minutes at a time before my ears and the top of my head became noticeably uncomfortable. My wife found them a bit easier to wear; but she noted that the earpads did not feel pillowy soft like the headband does. My 11-year-old daughter, on the other hand, positively adored the headset, thought they were extremely comfortable, and couldn’t wait for me to pass them along to her—so take that as a bit of potential sizing advice if you’re considering these cans for yourself. - In line with our findings about potential fitment issues, the earpads are also a bit of a mixed bag. Despite being somewhat “ear-shaped” for a supposedly more accommodating fit, the openings are really not large enough for these to be considered over-the-ear headphones (unless you have incredibly small ears—like my daughter). When you add in the more unyielding foam material under their mesh fabric coverings, AND the high inward clamping force mentioned above, those of you with larger or more sensitive ears may experience quite a bit of discomfort due to substantial on-the-ear pressures as well.
