Ubiquiti EdgeRouter x ER-X

good product, DON'T UPGRADE TO v1.10.10 mine got stuck on a boot loop/bricked. keep it as is. it has an internal console connection. had to use my Raspberry pi to do \"manual tftp recovery\" *google. difficult if you don't have the tools etc. otherwise good product. using it to load balance our sky and pldt connection for wfh. it has ip sla or icmp reachability test for failover. good value for money.

This is a cheap, low power router with high end features like VLANs and Smart Queue Management (SQM). It is rather old, but still suitable for up to 250/25 NBN plan (speeds) with SQM enabled using the stock firmware.It won't be able to handle 1000/40 NBN plan. At that point, you're better off with a dual (or more) LAN ports Mini-PC/motherboard using Intel N100 and OpenWrt/pfsense/etc firewall software installed.If you're technically inclined, you can install third-party open source firmware (OpenWrt) on this low cost router. OpenWrt has a more advanced Smart Queue Management (SQM) algorithm (CAKE with piece of cake) option; but because its more CPU hungry, it reduces this router to handle up to 100/20 or 100/40 NBN plans.

ER-X solid choice.

Great little router. Simple configure, yet very powerful. We have about 10 of these deployed in configurations for branch offices/networks. We use Vyatta/Vyos for central locations these ER-X use that same router software with very limited differences, so there work together very well. We have not had any issues with throughput, and one remote subnet has 10 users access data and VoIP through these routers.

It is based on vyatta and linux, and you can run linux commands on it.Make sure you read the quick start guide before trying to configure it, as the router does not have a dhcp server enabled in the factory default state. However it does have a dhcp client configured on eth1, so if you already have a router with a dhcp server, you can connect the ER-X eth1 interface to your existing router's LAN, and the then connect to the ip address your router gave to the ER-X, and from there you can get a working configuration by answering a few questions in the Basic Setup Wizard. I still keep the WRT54GL connected to the ER-X for expansion. I am not very network savvy. I was almost able to follow the Ubiquiti instructions, but not quite. However, it did not take long to find more explicit instructions online. Especially see: EdgeRouter X instructions at Aline or Intermedia sites, with drawings. If you need PoE is passive

This would be a 5 stars. It works really well.The only gotchas I had :* the PoE is Passive not PoE+ so it wouldn't power the "Ubiquiti UniFi U6+ Wireless Access Points" I also purchased... and I had to get a hub to inject power to fix this.* when used with my U6+ WAPs I needed the Ubiquiti controller (now called somethign else) to set up the network. Luckly I had a spare raspberry pi and installed the controller software on that.I'm very happy with the performance etc. It seems great once I had it working.

Simple, effective home network multi-WAN redundnacy

After an extended outage with my ISP, I subscribed to a 2nd ISP and setup this EdgeRouter X in an active-standby configuration between both connections. Not even a week later after setting things up, ISP 1 had another outage. The health check detected the outage in seconds and began routing traffic through ISP 2. The setup was a little complex, but anyone already thinking about this solution is likely already technically inclined and should have no problems working it out. I opted for active-standby as ISP 1 has better upload speeds, and I didn't want unpredictable behaviour with a load balanced configuration.

Oh, I like this router. I like it a lot. It is tiny. It is probably a quarter of the size of the consumer router from Cisco/Linksys, prior to the Belkin acquisition of Linksys, that it replaced. It is also a managed switch so it is much more feature packed. It can handle multiple VLANs, VPN, Firewall rules, NAT rules with DMZ roles, and the list goes on.Here is the negative: It is a managed router with an interface designed for professional network engineers. I have worked in IT professionally for nearly 25 years and I am extremely grateful that Ubiquiti included the WAN+2LAN2 Wizard as part of their management software. I was reading through the software manual to set the router up and I am thinking, I see how to configure DHCP, I see how to configure internal routes, now how do I set this up to use DHCP on one of the network ports that I plug in to the cable modem and set up that route to the private network served by this routers DHCP server through NAT? It turns out the afore mentioned wizard sets up that exact configuration which can then be easily tweaked once all the parts are in place. And that wizard matters because unlike a consumer router, there is not a dedicated jack to plug in to your modem; any of the five jacks can be configured in that role or any other role.Basically, this little guy can make your network as intricate as you can conceive with five network ports. Even with the wizard it is more involved than setting up a consumer router, but a little reading of the manual for individuals not familiar with the terms being used and it should not be much more difficult. As a final note, the manual can be downloaded from the manufacturers website and if it looks overwhelming then this probably is not the product for you.

Ubiquiti ER-X EdgeRouter X

This router model is very solid. We have deployed many and they are very stable and have a great feature set. Really hard to beat for a small network scenario.We've used them for Site to Site VPN, End-User/iPhone L2TP VPN and typical single LAN configurations.They never need to be restarted after power or internet outages. GUI or CLI Management. Rock Solid.

Wonderful reasonably priced firewall

When it came time to replace my aging Netgear WNDR4000 I decided I wanted to split the firewall and Wi-Fi to make future upgrades easier. During my searches I came across this device from Ubiquiti and it checked all of the boxes for my needs. I also found lots of videos on how to set it up and watching those confirmed this was what I wanted to get.When the device arrived it was very easy to configure. I left my old firewall in place and just connected this EdgeRouter X directly to the Ethernet cable on my PC. Once I was logged into it I ran one of the wizards to set it up most of the way. Then I made some minor changes to the DHCP range as well as changed the password. Then I powered the device off and swapped it out with my old unit. Everything was flawless!
