I purchased this product to replace one I accidentally damaged during installation. Its low profile and light weight actually made it a little hard to hold while climbing a ladder to install it on a ceiling; I dropped it and unknowingly damaged it internally. About 14 months later, I started getting intermittent network disconnections that lasted from a few seconds to a few minutes. It took me about another 4 months to notice the active light on the access point was flickering. Because these units are not terribly expensive, I took the chance on buying a replacement. That cleared up my problem, which I obviously caused. The new unit was delivered marked "Fragile - Do Not Drop". Point taken. So I will go through the issues reported and how I have dealt with them.I installed windows version of the unifi controller and you have to install a version of java, but due to licencing its not on java web site. From reviews I read complaints when you get this working , The AP not detected , I had this as well. Problem for me was being a bit enthusiastic missed some important tweaks on this install of java. so read the ubiquity instructions carefully. Once that was sorted it was fine. In saying that if you install this java and have done it wrong, getting it off again is a challenge as java removal tool did not see it as it’s a custom version. But I got there in the end.It has a fairly bright blue LED ring on at all times. At night in a residential use this may be distracting. Some reviews said this could not be disabled but you can from the controller. Probably not if you have used the app to install, as that has limited function like only 1 SSID. Talking about the APP, I did use it on the first day as got frustrated with installing windows controller. It is quick but you get warned that it has limited functions, so this route fine if that’s all you require.Summary:-Its is fairly neat on the ceiling very low profile. In a commercial setting it probably has the range they say but in residential probably of brick etc construction No. The advantage, it was easily centrally placed on the ground floor ceiling biased towards the important areas to cover. So all the other wifi’s are now switched off. This is covering the whole house. Important areas , office/lounge/ kitchen have excellent signal. Although the bedrooms are above the AP actually distance to the main bedroom for TV etc line of site, Is only 3 meters so that has a fair signal. Extremes of the property have a signal acceptable for basics emails on phone etc. Patio and some of the garden actable. So far better than I had before.. If you are wondering why I want more ssids in residential property. A few times I have had contractor’s asking for wifi password for connecting phone etc to listen to music and its awkward to say no. This way I can give a password out and delete it later. This has lots of control if you need to restrict family members.Last point is I went for the pro as that included the POE where the light this was an extra so in the end did not cost much more. Once set up you do not need the controller running unless you install more than one on the system then you do if you are self hosting.

Great Product With A Learning Curve

This is my first Unifi product that will eventually lead me down the rabbit hole. I find the flexibility of choosing access points, switches, and routers great for creating a personalized home network, compared to an all in one router. My current use case includes a Netgear modem, Netgear AC1750 router, Netgear unmanaged switch, then the UAP-AC-PRO powered via the included POE injector. I have it mounted on the wall in the upstairs main hallway of my house, more towards the bedroom side. Downstairs is the Netgear router with its built in AP. Both AP's use the same SSID and password so devices can connect to either. Both AP's use the same SSID and password so devices can connect to either. So far I haven't had a problem with this setup, the UAP covers the upstairs and the Netgear router covers the downstairs living room (on the opposite side of the house as the UAP). I am running the unifi controller on a Ubuntu VM on my FreeNAS server, which works fine but sometimes requires a reboot to the VM to connect to it remotely. Eventually I plan on getting a cloud key as the controller, as well as unifi router and second UAP for a full Unifi setup. An outdoor mesh AP would be good for further coverage of my garage and lawn. This AP is definitely not something I would consider plug and play like an all in one router, but the setup is pretty straightforward and there are guides on YouTube. Plan on having to mount it somewhere, possibly the ceiling if its easy to run an ethernet cable. Also make sure to use a quality cable to reduce the possibility of POE failure or speed reduction (Most CAT 5e or CAT6 cables will be fine, use a 23AWG cable for POE). For the price this is a very expensive part of an even more expensive ecosystem, considering the Netgear AC-1750 performs just as well. Consider the UAP-AC-PRO if you have a large space to full, specifically opposite sides of the house or multiple floors. The cost isn't unreasonable if you consider a newer MESH system. Honestly I forgot I had it installed which means that it's doing a good job. Before installing I had no/little connection to my bedroom. The reason for 4 eggs is the amount of manual configuration, which was fun to play around with but is something required to get this running. I would rate it 9.5/10 if the end user is comfortable setting up a controller and tinkering.

Improved my home wireless network tremendously.
5 January 2022

This purchase was my fourth UAP-AC-Pro. I use them throughout my home to provide denser coverage of my home. I had one small area of my home that was a bit weak in WiFi. Granted, this area was just a corner of my property, but now my entire property is well covered. Now, ALL areas inside my house have no worse than -50dB signal strength on 5 GHz and everywhere, including the extents of my property lines, does no worse than -55dB on 2.4 GHz. My home network has numerous VLANs that are kept isolated for security reasons; keeping guests, surveillance cameras, Internet-of-Things devices on separate networks from my "home" devices. Ubiquiti's infrastructure makes managing these separate networks simple and painless when expanding to more access points.

I wanted to replace my Cisco stuff and finally get a fully managed network with all the trimmings but due to this device design that won't happen. Then after attempting to use crimped shielded terminators and not being able to get them to pass testing and get them connected to the these AP's I went back to the Cisco units and the shielded terminators because I didn't want to pull regular ethernet cable just for these. When ubiquiti learns to design these for the bigger shielded terminators I might try again but I guess I'll just stick with Cisco right now.I like the promise of the ubiquiti hardware and software but sometimes, things just don't live up to the expectations.

The AP Pro is "End of Life" - the newer AP AC Pro may be better if the prices are similar.
3 February 2021

The Unifi AP Pro works very well but will be "End of Life" from March 2021, meaning that Ubiquiti will not support it, there will be no updates, and any new Unifi Controller updates after March 2021 won't see them and won't control and configure them. The newer version is the Unifi AP AC Pro will continue to be supported at least for some time yet. It also uses the newer faster AC WiFi standard that the older AP Pro doesn't have. At the moment (Feb 2021) there does not seem to be that much difference in the EBay price of the AP Pro and the newer AP AC Pro so it would seem to make sense to get the newer version if the price is similar. Having said that, when and if the older (non AC) AP Pro becomes available at a much better price than the newer AP AC Pro, if your ... MoreThe Unifi AP Pro works very well but will be "End of Life" from March 2021, meaning that Ubiquiti will not support it, there will be no updates, and any new Unifi Controller updates after March 2021 won't see them and won't control and configure them. It works very well. Each older AP Pro may have to be set up individually, but that's not a deal breaker if you only have a few. (The Controller software allows every Infiniti gadget on a network to be set up and controlled from one place, and also shows lots of stats and info of interest to the geeks amongst us - it's a bonus but not essential for home users.) Without the End of Life issue the AP Pro would get 5 stars.

Unifi UAP-AC-Pro Review

I recommend this product in the Unifi environment to those with technical networking skills. If you have only basic networking skills, you may get up and running quickly in the Unifi environment and find a learning curve each time you add new security features, as you learn to tune your WiFi environment, etc. Networking is a complex technical subject and this is essentially commercial equipment. However, due to cost, it has a home market. Most people who use it at home also have worked in the computer industry in a technical capacity. So your community support can be most helpful and I think it is a great, hands-on way learn, but the less technical background you possess the greater the learning curve opportunity and time to get things done. There are also quite a few online. How-to articles and videos from the vendor and the community. While the controller is the heart and strength of the Unifi line, it is a work in progress. I could wish it was more complete. The product wish list is long, but much of their wish list is for preference or improvements to existing features. New features sometimes have workarounds. Ubiquiti is actively adding features, bug fixes and security features. Most of the wish list will be of little or no importance to you. Of what is important, it may show up in a release in the next 3 months, year or several years. It depends on perceived need and difficulty. If the Unifi controller can do something, it is probably a lot easier to do than the old way. Sometimes it does not do something and the workaround is the old way. That is why you are best off with this product if you are a techie and a tinkerer. If not consider buying a router for the home market.

Very Good for My Use Case

I like to pretend I am a network admin and the only place I'm allowed to actually be one is in my house. So, I picked up two of these along with Cloud Key Gen2, the UniFi Manged PoE+ 8 Port 150W switch and USG. The range on these is decent and the options for configuring them are extensive. I was trying to get a more stable internet connection in my attic office while trying to improve the overall stability of the wireless connections in my house. My consumer end router was leaving a bit to be desired in a number of areas. So, adding one to the first floor and second floor of my 3 story 2200 sq ft home built in 1908, I accomplished a very stable and fast internet connection for all devices. I ran Cat 6a to each of these AP's and a Cat6 up to a new switch in the ... MoreI like to pretend I am a network admin and the only place I'm allowed to actually be one is in my house. You do have to plan the deployment and placement so that you get the best possible coverage based on your home layout and surrounding wifi congestion from neighbors. That was probably one of the more enjoyable aspects of this home deployment was doing the wifi survey. Learned a lot. Two of these is probably overkill, but hey...anything worth doing is worth over doing. :)
