I bought this and 2 other boxes to assemble. When I assembled this one is wasn't working correctly. I thought I followed the directions carefully. I also noticed others had this issue. It did frustrate me a little so I set it aside for a couple days. I then went back and started to disassemble it slowly while carefully examining each piece and function. I then realized that it was almost impossible to notice but I had flipped a couple pieces over. I switched them to the correct position and reassembled them and everything started working correctly and smoothly. I recommend if your box isn't working as intended to check the lid components over carefully.

I have assembled wood models before (some good, some horrible) and was optimistic this would be in the good category as I like puzzle boxes and nerdy engineering things. I was pleasantly surprised at how well this came together. I like that you guys put numbers on the boards so I don't have to play "match the shape" with the instructions. This is especially helpful towards the end when you have three or four boards with half the pieces removed, the board numbers seriously help. The instructions were easy to follow and as long as you take your time it will all fit nicely together.I have shown this to my engineering friends and they all love it and think it's awesome. I only wish there were several variations on the box so I could get more. I was very impressed with this kit. The parts appear to be laser cut. The detail of the components is outstanding. For best results, wax all moving parts well and operate the mechanism during construction to work the components in. The result is a very smooth operation. The instruction manual has very detailed and clear instructions. It uses primarily visual guidance with little written text. The illustrations and excellent and very abundant.Overall, this is a high quality kit, take your time and follow the instructions closely and you will be quite pleased with the result.

Super fun project for my 14 year old daughter. She loved it. The final product looks just like the pictures. However, the gears are super sticky and it doesn't open or close easily. I gotta say - it seems like we've allowed ourselves to get real lazy with instructions for projects like this. The instructions were just pictures that showed the order of assembly. They were super intuitive. But, it would have been really helpful to indicate which pieces need to be sanded to ensure smooth movement. Some narrative on the instruction set doesn't seem like an unreasonable expectation for a project that costs $45.
Friendly and professional customer service, arrived so fast to Bahrain, ordered it for my wife as the dowry box for our marriage night.Depending on the size of notes the country prints, you would be able to fit around 60 - 80 notes bundled up in three or four separate rolls/folds and tied with a rubber band or string. It was a really fun build. It took about 4-5 hours to complete (as mentioned on the packaging) within the span of 2 days. 1 hour of build on day one and 3 hours on day 2. Building process was addictive. If I didn’t have to go to work the next morning, I would have finished it within the first day.It was my first build, so I was a little hesitant as to when to apply pressure and how much pressure could the material withstand, because you would have ... MoreFriendly and professional customer service, arrived so fast to Bahrain, ordered it for my wife as the dowry box for our marriage night.Depending on the size of notes the country prints, you would be able to fit around 60 - 80 notes bundled up in three or four separate rolls/folds and tied with a rubber band or string. It was a really fun build. The manual is very clear and straight forward.Would definitely purchase another project in the further inshaallah.
I really enjoyed putting these together, though it was not a frustration free experience. Pros: Seeing the mechanics come together and begin working was super fun. Its a beautiful piece when finished. I found the instructions to be clear and easy to follow, and the few places I did get stuck always turned out to be because I made an assumption or skimmed something that I should have paid more attention to. Cons: Several pieces are so similar in shape that if youre not paying very close attention its easy to put a piece in the wrong spot, and getting them apart again is a nightmare. Some pieces that went in properly at first got pushed out of place by later pieces and made lining up the hinges nearly impossible. You need STRONG hands and fingers to fit some pieces ... MoreI really enjoyed putting these together, though it was not a frustration free experience. U-GEARS are a fantastic way to teach basic mechanics to anyone, adult or child! I should know - I work at an Ace Hardware store. I discovered my first UGEAR last year - 2018- while vacationing at a Christmas Markets tour in Basel, Switzerland. They had run out of tractors so I got the business card holder and couldn't wait to get home to assemble it! At work, I showed it to everyone - it was is a hit - and I commented how I hoped to see this imported into the US some day. And now, a few months later, I see that Grommet has the most popular styles!!! I'm so excited!!!(One suggestion for the UGear folks - you should re-visit how the tool you use to push toothpicks into place... it is a bit unsafe and can easily slip. I used pliers instead...)
I loved this although I am still having problems getting the lid to close snugly. WAX, WAX, WAX all of the gears that are meant to rotaate. Make sure you wax both the sides and the teeth. But, don't wax the + parts as that will make the gear slip off easy. My struggle was keeping the gears on the side together long enough to get the inner and out shells on. Be very careful about the pieces that hold the outer shell of the lid to that section. I put them on wrong and the holes did not align correctly. I recommend you put the 3 pieces together and align with a toothpick to make sure you put them in in the correct direction. Or the peg holding that to the hinges won't go all the wasy through to the circular disk. I don't understand yet why it has a circular disk in the ... MoreI loved this although I am still having problems getting the lid to close snugly. Steam the out corner pieces to bend them easiest. I steamed mine several minutes and was able to bend them into a circle. Once you steam them, get them on quickly so that as they dry, they conform to the shape of the corner.
This was my first experience with a UGears product. The treasure box is a unique, beautiful, well designed, and wonderful gift. She, the recipient, loved it!! It took a few hours to construct, but patience, persistence, and attention to detail was well worth the sore thumbs and fingers (pushing the wooden pieces together was challenging at times). All the moving parts worked well the first time. I was impressed with the overall design. The gear system and locking lid are fantastic. I was very pleased with my purchase. All the pieces arrived intact. Shipping was fast. Thank you for creating these incredible wooden models.**Tips** Pay close attention to the details in the instructions - especially the arrows on some of the gears. Wax any part that must slide or move against another piece so that the box opens and closes smoothly (i.e., gears, parts of the lid). It is unnecessary to wax everything - only wax the edges of pieces if you have difficulty inserting them into another. I used the solid wax from a left over candle. Only a thin layer of wax is required.
Recently purchased the Treasure Box to do as a fun project with my 15 year old daughter.I was very impressed with how precise the laser plywood cuts outs were and can't get over the engineering that has gone into the design of this product. The instructions book was very easy to follow and the whole project took us about 4 hours to complete. The only issue we had was at the very end ( unfortunately). When we put the key back in the box lid and rotate the key to lock it does not rotate far enough to lock. We can still turn the lid to engage the gears that hide the key. But for some reason when you turn the key the large gear on the underside of the lid will only turn a few mm's. But for some reason when you turn the key the large gear on the underside of the lid will only turn a few mm's. You can see on the gear guides that there is suppose to be at least 1 or 2 cm's of movement but there are other parts that block it from moving. While trying to correct this we ended up breaking one of the arms that lifts the lids. I am going to try and remove the lid and use a 2 part appoxy to repair the broken arm.The broken arm is my fault and not a flaw in the product. I am sure we must have put on of the parts around the gear in backward. But in order to fix that we would need to dismantle the entire lid and the problem really was not a big enough issue to warrant doing that and possibly do more damage. So once I repair the arm I we will be very happy with the Treasure Box.I would definitely purchase this product again and am considering buying another one.
