It looks pretty solid and well made, and the sound is good.Since I bought it of an emergency, of course I do not know what the life of it would be, however, in the past, about 25 yr. ago I bought one that was much cheaper and it is still working to this day. It looks as though, the cheaper and simpler the phone, the longer it last ....You cannot beat the price and the quality.

I bought this phone as a backup for when electrical power is out. (My primary phone needs power.) I hooked up the Slimline to the phone cable and got a clear dial tone and I went no further. It seems OK. My phone line has a male connector, but the Slimline also has a male connector coming from it, so I needed to get an "in line" female coupler. I got the coupler at Radio Shack which cost me as much as the phone. Walmart offers the couplers on line.
We wanted a phone with Caller ID that we didn't have to power with an electrical outlet (due to location of phone jack) and this works well for that purpose. It displays a list of phone numbers for called received and dialed. It does not have a flashing light, however, if voicemail messages are waiting on the line -- if you want a quick signal for that, best look for a different model.
We bought this just in case we have a power outage because a cordless phone would not operate in that case.It is a very light phone. Sounds clear enough and loud enough when you talk on it. The cord is extremely long as it hooks from the handset directly into the walk. I was a little baffled by that. (New one to me) The base just sits on what ever surface connected to nothing at all. You must place the handset on the base to hang up though as it presses some button on the handset when you do so. We just keep it tucked away in case we need it. A very basic phone. At a reasonable price.

There is a small piece in the base that you are supposed to remove, flip around, and put back to make a hook for the handset to hook onto; this is clearly shown in the directions. As I already mentioned, the excess cord can be wound up underneath the base so it won't show when the base is hung on the wall. Or, if you want more cord between the handset and the base, just pull the cord out some more on the other end of the base. Granted, part of the cord will then be coiled and part of it will be straight; what do you expect for less than $7? It should be fairly obvious how to do this; it isn't rocket science.I wouldn't recommend this phone for frequent daily use but for occasional use, it should do just fine. I'm happy with it.
I needed a phone that would fit in the cradle of my device which transmits my electrocardiogram via the telephone to my cardiologist. It works perfectly, particularly if you have an old-fashioned land line. I'll bet that there are millions of other Walmart shoppers looking for a similar device. Seriously, Walmart provided the very best value compared to other sources of the exact same phone. Thanks, Walmart!

This phone is awful. I got it and pretty quickly plugged it in because we needed a home phone so bad. It didn't take me long to realize something was wrong. First, all I could hear was fuzz. Second if anyone tried to call they could hear you but you couldn't hear them. I tried multiple place throughout the house with the same results. I looked to the instructions and immediately discovered that even the instructions say it does not work for MOST people. Within 3 days of getting this, I returned it. Not worth the whole 11.50 it cost to receive it. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.
