The sound of the Universal Audio Apollo is absolutely transparent, until you add the plugin coloration you desire. It is powerful, has access to a plethora of world-class plugins, and has near zero latency. Absolutely the best bang-for-the-buck audio interface around.

If you fiddle within production, music entertainment, even music performance, this Apollo is definitely the one for you. It makes both your job and then output source’s job way easier. Its efficiency is amazing. Not to mention the space grey feel of it. It completely made my productions on past interfaces seem very unprofessional because it enhances the quality of the sound exponentially. Once thunderbolt cable is plugged in, it makes it easy to set up way better than any other interface I have had. The setting on it makes it very easy to control much less an interface with several knobs.. it also helped me understand functionality of frequencies and pre amps. The software is amazing. This thing is awesome... in my home studio between the different spaces there exists a Twin X, an Apollo X8p, an Apollo Twin and now this. Nothing at all comes close to the ease and quality that I get from these units at anything approaching this price... hit records are made every day with these converters and plug ins. The X4 is an awesome unit that I think covers a ton of ground, the two headphone mixes and extra set of pres leave tons of room for growth as far as the home studio goes. I may wind up getting a satellite for mixing, the UAD plugins just sound so good that I love throwing an API 550 on everything just for the glue and it does add up, especially when using plugs like the Ocean Way room (can’t live without it) and the API 2500 and Studer on the mix bus.

Great product no doubt about it. Excellent sound quality. Installation on Apple Silicon Monterey MacOS was not super-easy but after following tutorial it installed and just works. I use it with Max/MSP to generate sound for live performances as I am not typical user who does some "recordings". Comes in as part of Core Audio devices and sounds great. It should be stated I did not need to install Luna or UA Connect which came with the downloaded DMG software package as for now I don't need them in my workflow. I just needed the driver. So I think Universal Audio could make it clearer in the DMG that when you just want to generate sound only driver is needed. My live-performances will be also running at 192Khz sampling rate, as it is not a problem while using Apollo and Apple Silicon computers. Also remember that the device box does not contain Thunderbolt 3 cable. I did not know that and had to take a trip to Apple store for the cable which was around 40GBP. I am glad I could get it from Apple on the same day and start using Apollo. Overall highly recommend the Apollo sound card to anybody who just wants top quality sound from their work, yes it makes a difference both for the artist and for the viewers.
Super sound quality and straightforward to use, came with masses of extras, which I’m still getting my head around.
Unison pres sound amazing and plugins are unmatched in quality.
While the Apollo x4 is a well designed and made piece of gear, it apparently is still only for Apple iOS. I was hope this had changed as I found in the B&H description for Mac and Windows. BE CERTAIN this will work on your system as B&H has a strict NO RETURN policy for this item. Sigh.

So I was splitting a headphone jack between two different types of headphones and it just wasn’t quite right.
