A dream! Better that I expected.
This yarn is better than I expected! I was looking for a lightweight yarn for cool summer evenings and Whatley is perfect. Light, airy and soft because of its cotton/alpaca blend and chain construction make it a wonderful choice. No splitting of stitches and no pilling, just a slight, beautiful haze. Comfortable and a dream to knit.... Show more

A+ Grade for Amherst!
I used Amherst to complete the Landscape Shawl MAL designed by Martin Up North. It went well with the Cloudborn Highland Wool I'd purchased from Webs a few years ago.Definitely going to used Amherst again! Love the colors and texture - so soft and squishy!!... Show more

I certainly would buy this yarn again with no reservation
First of all, I'm always happy when I order from Webs. It's easy to order and comes in as it should. The Amherst Yarn feels so good, it is a merino wool and works up beautifully. It is a bit more costly than some of the yarns I have used because of the amount of yarn in each hank. I would buy this product again with no hesitation... Show more

It's a good deal
I bought this to make a sweater for my husband. It's super soft and it's a good color match for the photo (got the chocolate brown). However, it's not very durable; this yarn is quite loosely plied, making pills and fuzzing an issue. My hubby is a working man, so he was hoping to use this sweater as his work sweater, but now he's going to have to use this as his weekend sweater. Be warned that its going to pill very badly at high frictions areas like underarms, elbows, and along the back where it scuffs against chairs. All that aside, it's a good deal for a good yarn.... I've used this for several baby sweaters
Very soft, superwash merino at a great price. Good stitch definition and makes nice cables. I've knit several baby sweaters with this yarn. Note: I get a different gauge with burgundy and blue! Swatch, swatch, swatch...... Show more

I will definitely be buying more
I made Cold Brew hats and mitts for my daughter and granddaughter; they love them and keep them warm when out working on a ranch. I also made the Sea Haven sweater and Sea Spray hat for myself in blue. So warm, soft, and toasty and not really pilling that much. I have more to make a color work sweater for my daughter in greens to match her hat. Amherst is easy to knit with little splitting and color work and complex stitch patterns show up well. I will be buying more! Great value for the money.... Show more

I would buy this yarn again
My granddaughter gets too warm in wool sweaters so I was happy to find Whately. The combination of Alpaca and cotton is light and the chainette construction is airy. The only drawback is the lack of colour choices. I would definitely purchase it again because it knits up very well.... Show more

Soft & substantial
Valley Yarns Amherst in black is perfect for The Ships Project hats for ground troops. This merino wool is easy on the hands (and eyes) and works up quickly on #7 circulars & DPNs, and finished hats feel soft even before blocking. Cable patterns show up distinctly, as do spiral ribs, without making the hat too bulky. I'd been unhappy using Cascade 220 Superwash (in black) for the ground troops' hats--very thin yarn which felt coarse during knitting, and some skeins seemed unevenly spun or "de-flaked". The only con, which isn't a deal-breaker, is the low yardage per skein--109 yards per 50g skein is not enough for a large-sized adult male hat with a ribbed brim (as required for The Ships Project). One skein might be sufficient for a very simple beanie; but I've had ... MoreValley Yarns Amherst in black is perfect for The Ships Project hats for ground troops. Still, for me, the Amherst is less expensive than the Cascade and so much nicer for knitting soft but substantial hats. [I will update this review after I knit slipper socks with Amherst.]... Yes, I would buy again.
I am making a sweater and am about half way. The yarn is absolutely soft and wonderful to the feel and knits beautifully. Definitely will not be an itchy one. The color is accurate. I think it is not quite a worsted weight. I had to up the needle size to get gauge and I need to order one more ball of yarn.... Show more
