Amazingly soft yarn!

Made a lap blanket for a friend who will probably be undergoing chemo. The final blanket is incredibly soft, and the lace border blocked out beautifully. A gorgeous gift for my
friend. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that while the yarn is superwash, it came out of the dryer with the ends quite frayed and unraveled. I always wash and block
before weaving in ends, and again, the finished project looks great. But I do worry a little about how it will hold up in future washings, and whether those ends will fray more
and pop out after washing.

I used Valley Superwash DK to knit a sweater for a seven year old. When I initially purchased it, my intent was to create gift that was something she would like, be easy for her
mom to take care of, and not break the bank. While I generally don't buy fiber I've not had the opportunity to touch, I found I got far more than what I'd anticipated.
Everything about it was great! The color. The feel. The drape. Friends who saw me knit with it and who themselves had not used it previously, purchased it as well. I would
happily knit another project with it - and not just for a seven year old.

Good for the price but has its issues
13 May 2020
So I bought this yarn since it was a great price and a pretty good color selection. Knitting is my full time job so I use a lot of yarn and love a good deal. Overall I'd use this yarn again now that I know what to expect but I did have a few notes that may deter some people from wanting to use it.- it does have several small slubs and joins throughout each ball (this doesn't bother me but I know it irritates a lot of people)- it stretches more than any other superwash wool I have ever used (I'd compare it to the stretch you get with alpaca and I highly suggest you swatch and wet block before starting any project)-it is slightly on the thin side (it's more of a light DK and doesn't plump up a ton post blocking)... Great Wool to Knit, Comfortable, Economical
27 June 2023
I was looking for a merino wool for softness with warmth, and a superwash for ease of care with use, and I wanted it in a "natural" undyed color. And here it is! I have used about 800g for far in my Afghan, and I can say that is does not split easily when knitting (a bane of mine) and that for me this knits up perfectly in my pattern on 4.5mm/US7 needles. The feel and the drape are great, and with a lapful of this blanket I can attest to its comforting warmth. I will use this again for other projects. I do echo the call from others for a return of the 250g hanks - that would have been handier for me, but the 100g's work fine.... Show more

held up so well that I'm using it to make a second one
25 July 2023
I got some more of this yarn to replace a pair of fingerless gloves that I loved but unfortunately got some moth damage. I made them with this yarn years ago and it has held up really well (other than the moths, of course, but that's my fault... they weren't stored properly). It stayed soft and comfortable and warm, stitch pattern was well defined, and no pilling or fraying over the years. So I'm making another pair with the same yarn. I'm so glad this is still available, because it was perfect for the project and I'm so glad I can make it again!... Show more

It's a nice yarn however.....
7 March 2023
Nice yarn. I'm making a temperature afghan out of it with a shell stitch. However, I gave it a 4 because there is some inconsistencies in the thickness of the yarn-sometimes in a strand, sometimes in the whole skein-ie. the white was thinner than the other colors. For my purposes it makes no difference. For a garment it might make a big difference (if you have a whole section of white it will look different than another color). It has a nice feel in the finished product.... Show more

I use this yarn for 95% of all my projects. Love it!!!
29 December 2022
This is my go-to yarn for hats, scarves, baby clothes and stuffed animals, fingerless mittens etc. I always either buy it on sale for around thirty percent off or buy $60 of yarn to qualify for the 20% WEBS discount. So it's quite inexpensive. Lovely colors. Great selection of colors for baby clothes but I do wish that they would offer some more bright colors, although there are some. All in all, I love this yarn and don't agree with most of the "cons" that others have listed. None of the many recipients of my gifts made with this yarn have ever said that the washed garments stretch or shrink. Use cold water and put inside pillowcase or garment bag if you have that problem. As for pilling, it barely ever does and it's very minimal compared to many other wool yarns. ... MoreThis is my go-to yarn for hats, scarves, baby clothes and stuffed animals, fingerless mittens etc. I always either buy it on sale for around thirty percent off or buy $60 of yarn to qualify for the 20% WEBS discount. And it doesn't stretch while being knit but it has a bit of "give" that makes it easy to knit, unlike stiff cotton that is hard for me to use because of my tendonitis.... Show more

My go to yarn
8 June 2023
The softest wool I've ever used is also very inexpensive and great for baby clothing and blankets of all sizes. I regularly use the sport weight, the DK weight and the worsted weight of this yarn. And it goes on sale very regularly so if you want to wait until it's around thirty percent less wait for it to go on sale. It's often on sale for a week. It's a dream to knit with and rarely splits while knitting.... Show more

Nice!
2 November 2021
This yarn is great to dye, really forgiving and picks up color beautifully. It also works up very nicely. Its merino so it probably pills but I generally use it for hats and accessories so I've never had a problem with it. One thing of note-- if you want to use this color as is you'll still have to treat it like you're dyeing it. Because it is meant to be dyed the yarn is functionally "unfinished" and will need to be treated with hot water and acid to fluff up properly. I suspect you'll have weird gage problems if you don't and also the yarn is probably closer to DK than worsted before being finished. The difference between the yarn as it comes and the yarn once its been dyed/heat treated is very noticeable. I think technically hot water alone will probably allow ... MoreThis yarn is great to dye, really forgiving and picks up color beautifully. It also works up very nicely.
