Beautifully soft, but needs extra care when washing
I love the softness and price of this yarn and have been using it for several baby items, all gifts. But I agree with another reviewer that it is tricky to wash. My first project was a steeked Fair isle cardigan, and it lost all elasticity when it was wet. I had to block it very carefully. The elasticity returned when the cardigan dried, but it had stretched out quite a bit, so I now had a bigger size. The stretching occurred in both the stranded and non-stranded portions. For my next projects I am using smaller needles and will see what happens when I wet block the finished items. If they are as difficult to block as the Fair Isle cardigan I will not be using this yarn again.... Show more

Excellent!
This is my first time using this yarn. I'm using this yarn to make the Brescul men's vest pattern. While I was working on a swatch for my gauge, I noticed how well the grist of the yarn remained consistent - and its tension produced a nice weave: very cloth-like with a beautiful drape. I knew immediately that the pattern's cable design would be complimented by the excellent quality of this yarn. Looking forward to using this yarn again! And to be honest with you, I have a feeling it will become my go-to yarn when I need extra fine merino sport weight yarn.... Show more

I love using this yarn.
I love using this yarn. I've made two sweaters for grandchildren with it, one with complex knit-and-purl designs and the other with lots of cables. In each case, the stitches showed clearly and the blocked sweaters were soft enough for a toddler's sensitive skin. I don't recall seeing any knots or other defects in the yarn, and the colors were what I expected after ordering online. As usual, shipping was reasonably quick and easy to track.... Show more

Lovely soft yarn needs extra care
I ordered two skeins of Valley Yarn Superwash Sport to experiment with it. It is a lovely, amazingly soft yarn. The colors are nice for adults or children. It needs to be treated gently and the care instructions specify drying the item flat. I made a swatch with ribbing and washed it in Eucalan. It did stretch a lot while wet, and it has a chemical smell as other reviewed have said. The ribbing seemed to have no elasticity when wet. A garment would have to be pushed back into shape. However, when dry the swatch retained its elasticity. I plan to make charity hats for small children with it. I probably would not buy it again, as I prefer traditional wools like Amherst. If a buyer needed a yarn that would be washed frequently and machine dried, I recommend a synthetic ... MoreI ordered two skeins of Valley Yarn Superwash Sport to experiment with it. Lovely to handle but thinner than some sport weight yarns
This is a super soft yarn and from that perspective is lovely to handle. I bought it to use for a baby sweater but is a lighter weight than I expected for a sport weight. To get the gauge marked on the yarn I had to use bigger needles and the resulting fabric was too loose for a durable sweater. With smaller needles I got a satsifying fabric but couldn't make the gauge work for the sweater. Conclusion: swatch carefully as this is thinner yarn than other sport weight yarns.... Show more

Pros- Baby soft, easy to knit with.Cons- IT STRETCHES!! The finished product- a baby blanket, was absolutely beautiful until I started the blocking process by submerging the blanket into water. Even with great care not to stretch the yarn, the wet blanket ended up stretched 2-3x from its original size!!! No amount of creative pinning was going to shrink the blanket back to its previous size. With devastation and horror, I put the wet blanket (it was only semi wet by then) into a small laundry mesh bag and threw it in the dryer on normal cycle. It took many cycles to finally dry it. As I was removing the mesh bag, I was emotionally ready for the worst! And lo and behold, it shrank down to slightly smaller than what it was supposed to be :-)I proceeded to stretch ... What an emotional ride! The end result certainly is not as pretty as it was before the blocking- the rows and columns are not as clean, but I am very happy with the save!... Show more

Pricey but Great Pattern Definition
This is a great yarn if you need a sport weight wool. It lends itself well to cable patterns, and has great pattern definition. It's a pleasure to work with as well. Only downside is that the yarn balls don't contain as much yardage as competing brands. At the price per yard, it's great for making showpiece projects, but I wouldn't use it for charity projects.... Soft but grows as expected
I want to first state that I didn't know superwash grew before I bought this. I bought a large quantity of this yarn to make a sweater. It's soft and nice to work with. I hand washed this when I was done. The sweater had originally stopped at my waist, just above my hips. It is now down to my mid/upper thighs, I want to say it grew about 4-6 inches in length. Since the instructions are just to dry flat, I can't put it in the dryer to help tigthen the stitches. It's nice yarn, but I would only use it for something like shawls, or a sweater you want to turn out big and baggy in the end. It's still a comfortable sweater, but it did NOT retain the shape at all.... Show more

The yarn that keeps on giving
This is my go to yarn when I want to knit up a sweater which believe it or not I do wear in central Florida during the fall winter season. The yarn is a work horse it has an endearing quality that lets your stitches shine in a design eg cables or moss stitch. I love the fact that it can be machines washed and air dried the garment keeps it's shape. One feature about valley yarns is that it doesn't shed or give off those nasty little felt like balls. Great product love the color choices.... Show more

This is a great product
I am making a very complicated cable knit sweater and could not find the required yarn because the pattern was very old. Fortunately, after a lot of searching on my computer, I found this compatible yarn which people seemed to love at WEBS and I am extremely pleased with the quality and the way the cable pattern looks. I had a problem picking colors because I could not see them in person. So I also want to praise the WEBS store for their quick and accommodating service as I had to order and return yarn. Their shipping was super fast and the credit was process super fast also. So , in conclusion, the yarn is beautiful and easy to work with, the store and their service are phenomenal and I am so happy that I found this resource which I will continue to use in the ...
