A great reliable option when you are looking for a hard drive. Compared to other ones with the same capacity it is cheaper. I have several of these and never had a single problem with any of them. I would definitely recommend these to anyone who wants a hard drive.

Connection cord too short

Decent enough storage drive, but for the price you'd think they'd give you a longer connection cord, it's only 6 inches. So when it's in use it basically dangles from the computer at the front or back. Not the best for computer towers, better suited to laptops or usb hubs.

Happy Son-in-Law

My Son-in-law asked this external hard drive on his Christmas List. He put the link for it on Rymans website - to make sure I got the right one at the best price. I don't know much about it, but he knows a lot about computers and specifically asked for it! Rymans had the best price and their delivery and communication was great. Son-in-law was very happy with it!

LLEWELLYN's review of Verbatim Store n Go 2.5" (6.35cm) GEN 2 1TB USB 3.0 - Silver

Pros: Thinner than previous drives, but cable too s hort.Cons: Cable much shorter than my previous six (various makes) external HDDs, so had to rejig setup of those to accommodate this one! About 6 inches is too short. Also it should be noted upfront that it is set for FAT32 - which means only files of less than 4GB can be saved. Wasted too much time originally in copying 600GB contents from a Buffalo drive (like others, received formatted in NTFS, so no problem! ) -before being informed that it couldn't copy certain files as they were too large. Had to learn about problem, wipe all files, reformat in NTFS and start again. New learning curve at 81 years old. Many users would not know how to sort this out! Makers should note that masses of purchasers not that tech ... MorePros: Thinner than previous drives, but cable too s hort.Cons: Cable much shorter than my previous six (various makes) external HDDs, so had to rejig setup of those to accommodate this one! Living up to the high reputation of the Verbatim

I bought one of these over two years ago from a branch in London (close to Oxford St.). It has been giving totally reliable service fixed with double sided sticky tape to the back of a Panasonic TV as a recorder, programmable from the TV's guide. It happily records two HD programmes simultaneously and plays another. My earliest recorded programme is James May's People's Car on 16/03/2019! I am placing this review so long after because I am planning to buy another for an older TV and was annoyed by the negative review reporting that it didn't work on a TV of unidentified make.

Returned

I've returned this item. I bought the drive when it was a bargain £40 however after not much use a fault developed with the USB slot connection on the hard drive, when the wire is connected (to the USB slot) sometimes the hard drive does not power up, unless the wire is wiggled or moved and then it works. Also, after the wire is moved/let go the power stops going to the hard drive as the switches itself off. I have a lot of experience working with hard drives, the hard drive has not been used a lot maybe 10 times in total. If I continued to use the hard drive I'm sure I would need to recover the data, so avoid.

Verbatim Portable Hard Drive 1TB Silver Ref 53197

Two stars for great intentions. The size of the slots are perfect for organizing kitchen drawers with silverware and some larger cooking utensils. The metal wire is a headache. When I bought this, I guess I didnt expect this to be such an issue. The forks and knives are constantly getting stuck in the holes and its a neverending battle to get something unstuck once its in. The tray usually wins and as a consumer, when I cant make a product work for my basic needs, I immediately look for something better.

fairly good drive

this drive is great, ive been using for about a month in my nos110 class. i didnt have any issues with this drive until i tried to tranfer over a new vhd for winsvr2008 today. low and behold this happens to be the largest file that ive tried to transfer so far and i kept getting an error message "cannot copy file. file size too large for file system" after scratching my head for a few minutes, i decided to check the formatting on the drive, it comes in FAT32. while this would normally be fine on a flash drive, this is not a flash drive. this is a 500gb usb3.0 portable hdd. ntfs has been standard for years and on somethin this big, one would expect that to be the formatting. this isnt really that big of a problem tho and thats why im only taking away one egg on this ... Morethis drive is great, ive been using for about a month in my nos110 class. i didnt have any issues with this drive until i tried to tranfer over a new vhd for winsvr2008 today. low and behold this happens to be the largest file that ive tried to transfer so far and i kept getting an error message "cannot copy file. file size too large for file system" after scratching my head for a few minutes, i decided to check the formatting on the drive, it comes in FAT32. while this would normally be fine on a flash drive, this is not a flash drive. this is a 500gb usb3.0 portable hdd. ntfs has been standard for years and on somethin this big, one would expect that to be the formatting. this isnt really that big of a problem tho and thats why im only taking away one egg on this item. its a really simple fix just open ur command prompt on windows and enter this line without quotes "convert :/fs:ntfs" itll ask what ur drives name is mine was verbatim hd then let it do its thin
