My daughter worked some of her way through college in a smoothie shop. I was so excited when I ordered this blender. I spent a lot of time researching before selecting which model to order. The primary purpose for this blender - smoothies and frozen drinks. The first thing we made was a smoothie the blender failed miserably at mixing ice, water, sorbet, and frozen strawberries. It mixed the bottom but nothing else. We used the tool that came with it to push the contents down to the bottom and had to really work at it to get it to mix. Also had to add way more water than the recipe called for to see if that would help, it didn't. There were a lot of ice chips and chunks of strawberries, even tried several speeds and the pulse feature. Tried two other drinks and same results. When my refurb'd Total Nutrition Center model died after 5 years, I wanted another model that had the "set and forget smoothie setting." since they don't make the TNC anymore.We went to Costco and got the E520 because I wanted some assurances that we'd be protected if the next one died after the warranty ended as well. This was the one they had that fit the bill. And it's going back.First, the engine sounds tinny and cycles like it's struggling to blend. Secondly, the container's wider and shorter shape, ostensibly to fit under cabinets, results in splashing all around, up and down, and out of the container, creating a mess. Well, VITAMIX show a zillions models on their site but the CREATION is gone. So I picked the E310, because I thought it would feel and act very much like my old CREATION- however, it turns out the on /off button, dial button and pulse button of this E310 all feel very cheap -almost ready to pop off or disconnect from the motor. A general feeling of downgrade in quality. So far the blending/crushing is as good as my old VITAMIX, but I am leery about these cheap control buttons.Should have I bought a more expensive model to experience better design? I bought my Vitamix about five or six years ago and I have never regretted my purchase. It is one of my best purchases ever. It is so well built & it is so versatile. My son makes smoothies almost every day so the money that he saves on smoothies alone has more than paid for this.I can make hot chocolate in my Aer pitcher & the lemonade is amazing!!! My whipped cream is awesome too. Next, I want to make peanut butter in my other pitcher. Yes, it is expensive but it is so worth it. I decided it was tome to splurge on a blender with high recommendations, made in the US, and had a guarantee. It was important that I get a good blender because I make smoothies everyday. Well, I’m sorry I didn’t get this sooner. It’s an excellent entry level blender to the Vitamix brand. There aren’t any bells and whistles and it’s manual operation which I don’t mind. I’ve had to adjust to the order of loading it up with ingredients as it’s different then the standard blender. But this machine blends any combination of any of them in as many different ingredient combinations as you can dream up, creating an endless variety of perfectly liquified vegetable, fruit, and vegetable/fruit ... More...more than 20 years ago. Normally I'm not a fan of vegetables unless they're raw and drenched in blue cheese dressing, which kind of defeats the purpose if you're interested in healthy eating. But this machine blends any combination of any of them in as many different ingredient combinations as you can dream up, creating an endless variety of perfectly liquified vegetable, fruit, and vegetable/fruit beverages which make getting a full day's supply of things like spinach, kale, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, peas, lima beans, etc. etc. etc. easy to swallow, very tasty, and so widely varied so they just never become boring or routine. Add protein powder (I particularly like 100% pea protein powder) and this becomes a daily breakfast that hits all the day's recommended vegetable intake requirements and usually holds me til dinner. Two decades ago the sticker price made me reluctant to try it. The reviews then convinced me to try. It was the best money I've ever spent, worth every dime. It operates now just as smoothly and effectively as it did then. The only change I've made was to invest in one of the stainless steel containers a few years ago b/c I found the plastic one a little difficult to keep perfectly clean. (You don't want to put it in a dishwasher.) But the stainless steel version cleans up thoroughly by using a half cup or so of water and a drop or two of dish detergent and processing it for maybe a minute. If you're on the fence, get off it. You're not going to regret this purchase for a minute. Your grandkids could very well inherit it and I'd be surprised if it didn't work just as well then as it does now. I don't know how they get this quality and durability at *any* price point.
