Vivitar 60x/120x Refractor Telescope With Tripod

We purchased this product to be raffled on "Summer Solstice" for a Star Gazing event at our Desert Archeological Museum . Owning many Vivitar products we felt that for the price we would be presenting a participant with the opportunity to take home a quality, and useful entry level telescope. I must say they were a hit, the overall design was pleasing to the eye,with the silver scope body and contrasting black components. Our museums instructor pointed out the construction of all the components were top-notch and constructed in the same manner as much more expensive models. The lens quality allowed us to clearly view the moon , which was Full, some of the planets and larger stars were cool. The eyepiece angle allowed for comfortable viewing. The tripod although functional needed some tweeking from our resident amateur astronomer to make it more stable. They were a big hit with our nearly 200 guest, and treasured by the lucky winners. Another surprise was that even though a entry level unit upgraded accessory lens were available. We would be confident in purchasing this item in the future if we hosted a similar event. Thanks.

This telescope appears to be durable and of good quality. I liked the adjustable legs. All of this would be great if the thing actually worked. I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my son and he was very disappointed. We could never get it to focus or see anything through it.

Giving this telescope a 1 star is being very generous.My daughter got this as a birthday present from her grandpa.As were setting it up and adjusted the tripod legs, one of the tripod leg adjusters broke. This was the first time we'd ever used it and the tripod leg broke.But we rigged the broken tripod leg so we could look at the moon that night. So there are 2 lenses that come with the telescope. Both lenses have some kind of fibers (or something) embedded in the each of the lenses so when you look thru them, all you can see is these hair like fibers everywhere. We cleaned them and the fibers are embedded in the glass.Lastly, the the telescope is just plain junk. Once we were able to focus on the moon, it is basically just a round yellow light....you cannot see any craters or any other distinctions--just a fuzzy yellow blob.I will be returning this telescope and hoping to upgrade to a way better one. This telescope is a piece of junk. Please do not waste your money on this one.
