The Voigtländer Nokton 50 mm F1.2 aspherical SE E-mount has the legendary focal length for a pleasantly natural perspective and offers the photographer many creative possibilities. The extremely solid construction, made exclusively of glass and metal, lends a rich yet sensitive handling. Electrical contacts transmit the relevant information to the camera, the optical calculation is optimized for the latest Sony full-frame sensors and the focus peaking function makes manual focusing a breeze. The high aperture of F1.2 allows for smooth cropping and has enough reserves even in difficult lighting situations. The product line for the Sony E mount with the suffix SE (for Still Edition) is aimed at all photographers who can do without the stepless and silent aperture adjustment that is so important for videography. The SE models deliberately do without this complex fine mechanics, all SE lenses therefore only have a click-stop aperture adjustment, which can be set in 1/3 steps. All users who only take classical photographs thus have a tool at hand that delivers first-class results in the outstanding quality they have come to expect from Voigtländer.

Rock solid build quality. Fast and has a cinematic look wide open (glowy, slightless less sharp). Sharpens up after f/1.8 or f/2.0. A really fun lens to use.

I already own the 21mm f/1.4 Nokton and this 50mm made sense. The quality and the rendering of the Voigtlanders is there and is a joy to have. Manual focus is very smooth. The sharpness of the lens is amazing at center at maximum aperture. Corners are so-so and don't improve until f/2.0-f/2.8. For me that's fine since using the lens wide-open would be for mostly close-ups where I'll make use of the f/1.2-f/20 range more and where everything other than the subject will be out-of-focus anyway.Lens is very light and compact. It is my default lens now.

I bought the Voigtlander 21mm f/1.4 Nokton for my Sony a7III a couple weeks ago and after reviewing my photos, I bought the 50mm f/1.2 Nokton also. I have used manual lenses on 35mm film cameras for most of my life, and I prefer manual lenses for creative control. I've never been able to get a great photo when relying only on my camera CPU to make these decisions for me. It's a welcome relief to know that once I adjust aperture and focus on the lens, it's impossible for my camera to change my settings before I press the shutter release. I own the Sony 50mm 1.2 GM, so I know what optical perfection looks like, but I'd still rather use these manual Voigtlanders. The results are great, and the sun stars are killer too.
