This is a good quality binoculars build with a modern design with over all excellent package. I did try in person multiple binoculars with in the price range 200-300 before tax and this was the best overall binoculars. Other brands were not able to stack up when it comes to construction and optical quality for this price. Optically in between the 3 models in the series this was the best. The color was true to life, contrast was excellent and it had chromatic abberation. The 10x42 was good but it looked a bit dark when side by side with 8x42 and the 10x50 showed some chromatic abberation. One thing regarding buying a binoculars are like shoes unless you try them on you don't know how it will fit. So don't take my word for it and go to the store and try them on one by ... MoreThis is a good quality binoculars build with a modern design with over all excellent package. I have a pair of 8x28 Vortex Diamondback binoculars I've been very happy with for years but... lately my aging eyes aren't what they used to be. I wanted a bit more glass and decided on a pair of 10x42 binoculars. Wanting quality without having to spend too much, I started reading reviews for the Vortex Crossfire binoculars. I'm not using them for hunting or extended viewing but rather 3D archery target sighting which sometimes involves late evening shoots. Several reviews I read for the Crossfire weren't very keen on them but I took a chance and ordered them. Much to my pleasure I find them just fine for my use. I've used them now for a couple weeks, they are bright and sharp, I can see the scoring area much better, that's exactly what I wanted and all I can ask. ... MoreI have a pair of 8x28 Vortex Diamondback binoculars I've been very happy with for years but... lately my aging eyes aren't what they used to be. Optics very clear, compared to my 10x50 Bushnell, the additional magnification at 12x was discernable but not overwhelmingly better. Loved the compact form factor, easy to focus, they are "heavy" relatively speaking, much heavier than the Bushnell pair these replaced. Case is compact and nice. I did not care for the straps it comes with, instead of a simple neck strap it has a lower part that wraps around your belly and the other straps go over the shoulder. Seems a little overkill to me unless you are competing in a tough mudder competition and don't want to loose your new binoculars. These were way better than the Nikon 12x50 I bought also, I returned the Nikon because these were better in every respect. Feel, optic clarity, look, design, compact.

I bought these specifically for a recent cruise to Alaska. They replaced an old set of 8x32 Nikons. I was impressed with the warranty and the waterproof feature as well as customer reviews from several sites. They were great, terrific magnification, exceptional clarity and just what I was looking for. We let several fellow cruise passengers use them while on an Orca search with us and they also commented on the exceptional quality of the binoculars. Glad I found these and as usual a great deal at Sportsman's Guide
I say budget because they're not a true budget pair since there's cheaper options. But very few in this price range offers the clarity and fit and finish with a no questions asked repair/replace warranty. Bushnell being another, however you need the proper product line for a true' no questions asked' repair policy. The harness they come with isn't the most robust, in fact I will likely upgrade it in the future. Clasps will snap if strained too much, but once again, it can be replaced. Insuring you run the straps the right way during assembly will avoid the chief complaint I read about loosening straps or ones causing binos to come loose and fall.Optical clarity is magnificent, well for me it is. Bright in low light, excellent in colour contrast due to lens coatings are amazing. Lens caps tend to open as they get caught on the chest harness as you remove them, but that's a minor issue. Easy to adjust your focus even with cold weather gloves on. I'd buy these again in a heartbeat.Much like wines, you can get lost in the subtleties and opinions of those more well versed in expensive high end options. But these will more than allow me to do what I want with them, and I won't feel like I have to baby them. If you're on the fence, I'd say hop down and grab a pair, you will likely not be disappointed.
I bought the Crossfire HD 8X42 binoculars about a week ago and I'm pretty impressed overall. For one thing they compare pretty well optically in clarity and depth of field with my Cabela's Intensity 8X42 binocs, which themselves are a very good buy for the money. One con of the Crossfire is that the eyecup adjustment doesn't stay in place very well, especially when using the eyepiece dustcaps. The pupil distance also doesn't adjust quite narrow enough for my eyes but with the right eyecup adjustment it's still comfortable. The exit pupil is nothing short of massive which gives the impression it will allow lots of light through and take advantage of your dilated pupils when you're in low light. The eyecup adjustment range is outstanding and allows just the right eye ... MoreI bought the Crossfire HD 8X42 binoculars about a week ago and I'm pretty impressed overall. The eyecup adjustment range is outstanding and allows just the right eye relief no matter what glasses you wear or if you don't wear eyeglasses. The lens covers are durable and very effective for keeping the lenses clean when you're not looking through them. The shoulder strap is outstanding and makes the optics feel lighter than they actually are, especially when hiking off trail when it's rough. I've not tried the shoulder harness included with the carry case because it makes it very difficult to change or share binoculars. The carry case is outstanding however and gives lots of peace of mind when not using them. I would say you could do a lot worse for the money with these binoculars, especially if you are on a budget like me. The warranty is also outstanding. I will not hesitate to take them hunting or birding, two very optic intensive hobbies.
At a great price I tried these Vortex Crossfire 10x42 binoculars. In comparing the Crossfire with the Diamondback I could not see a difference. These are easy to focus and are extremely clear. I have not used them for extended glassing as yet. That is the true test for optics. My short glassing sessions were great! The added bino harness is nice. It fits over my tee shirt...barely. I know it will be far too small for me to use while hunting with even a light jacket on. Too bad, because I think it would solve the fogging problem of using cold optics on a warm face, oh well.(Hey Vortex, there are big people out here) Thankfully there is also a standard neoprene neck strap included as well.
I bought it for a trip for wildlife viewing. Online reviews were all very good. The image quality is quite poor in my opinion. There is only minimal peripheral distortion but there is way too much chromatic aberration. I had my Nikon M7 Monarch 8x42 at the same time and after viewing through the Vortex a couple of times and the Nikon right after, I put them down for good. The focus wheel is also somewhat coarse and difficult to adjust with one finger precisely (again I'm spoilt by the super smooth Nikons).Yes, it is a relatively cheap bino for what it offers, I got it over the Diamondback version as that had so so reviews, but for me, I need crisp images without the distracting color fringing. Would be spending more and get a Nikon M5 instead. I have already ... MoreI bought it for a trip for wildlife viewing. Online reviews were all very good. These were an upgrade from Simmons 10/25. At time of purchase the 10/50 was cheaper than the 10/40 I intended to get. Lucky! I was blown away by how bright they are. Easy to get focused and great FOV. Much lighter weight than I expected. Only negative is the purple color fringe. That's why 4 stars instead of 5.Same power as my old 10/25s but I can see so much more! Even in the night sky. Orion Nebula shines through these and stars are sharp too! I am happy with the Vortex 10x50 Crossfire HD Binos!
These binoculars are very clear and the field of view is plenty wide for me. I hunt on a large clear cut. These promise to be a big asset when deer season gets here. The only thing I'm not overly enthused about is the way the straps attach to them. It's only a minor drawback. And it works fine. I would definitely recommend these for the serious hunter. I look forward to turkey season with these also. I have a vortex rifle scope I put on my 6.5 creedmoor. It's clear and has served me well. Academy shipped and delivered when it was promised. I'll be purchasing more from them. I like Academy's wide variety of hunting and fishing equipment. I ordered the binoculars online. But the store is great also.
