I needed a pair of binoculars alittle more powerful then my Nikon 10x42. I researched many manufacturers and models. I decided that 12 power would be the right choice as anything more powerful would be hard to keep steady. Vortex is a proven name and after reading many reviews on the Diamondback HD model I was convinced these were the right choice. The clarity is as good or better then some of the much higher priced binoculars I have. Crystal clear !! The size and weight are just right and the adjustments are spot on. I also like 50mm which brings in a lot of light. I tried these in very low light conditions and was extremely pleased. The Diamondback HD preform as good as a binocular I own that cost 6 times as much. The case that comes with these is a added bonus. ... Everyone raves about these and they're not wrong. Clear glass, beautiful light transmission, brilliant colours at a huge distance and good quality feel in your hands. What a step up from my Nikon 25mm sportstars... I use them for birding and went for the 50mm lens for better light and colour and wasn't disappointed. Highly recommend. The 'Glasspak' is just ok. Its a shame that you can only wear it full body - there aren't any other configurations. I had to use a gunstrap to turn it into a sling bag. But the details on it like silent opening are nice.Tip: check the interpupil distance before buying - the 50mm lens means that the eyepieces can't close together fully - if you have close eyes then the eyepieces may sit too far apart.

I wanted to get a pair of good binoculars for our home - not hunting, but rather to enjoy the surroundings. I did a whole month of research online trying to figure out the best quality-price ratio; I wanted to purchase a product that is going to be within an acceptable budget range, but don't go cheap because this should be binoculars that potentially last us some solid years - so no intention to replace them in the next 5-10 years. I came about Vortex Optik and found them to be the perfect promise of quality, price, imagine, customer service, etc. We are beyond excited about our choice. The image we get through them is incredible, there is so much light coming through the lens. The sharpness is on point, fantastic feel in the hands; not too heavy, and not too easy ... We were also debating if we should buy the 10x50 or the 12x50 because of the imagine stability "challenges" that are supposed to come with a higher zoom but to be honest, I think we made a great choice: long distances, no image problems. Just one of the best purchases this year.

The first thing I noticed when I took the binos out of the box was how light they were. At 29 ounces they weigh only 4.7 ounces more than my Vortex Razor HD 8x42 binos. The image quality is excellent and even at close range objects apprear as three dimensional and the edge to edge sharpness is excellent as well. What one gets with a cheap pair of binos is lesser glass optics without much in the way of coatings and potentially a less durable build. But at 10% of the price of a Swarovski I can live with that. If you put Swarvoski on the barrel I doubt many people could notice a difference in image quality. As my eyes age I need more magnification to see details clearly and so have 10x25 and 10x43 binos and my 8x40 are seldom used. I can see these 12x50 binos from Vortex becoming my favorites for birding walks. When doing wildlife photography I will continue to use the Swarovski 10x25 which are very compact and will fit with their case inside a water bottle pocket on the outside of the backpack. But for general bino use these Vortex 12x50 will be the ones I grab.
Great optics for the size and money! Plus a lifetime warranty, what more needs to be said. I have 1 small compaint...mine came with the Vortex Glasspack case. They put a quick release strap from the case to the binoculars, however the neck strap for the binoculars does not have a quick release option. So if you want to use the binoculars without the case you need to remove the quick connections and then mount the neck strap. Then reverse if you want to use them with the case...Vortex, If you're listening, put a matching quick connector on the neck strap!
We've been really pleased with our purchase. Excellent quality construction and optics. We originally purchased a Vortex Razor 11-33 X 50 spotting scope for bird watching, but later decided that a more powerful binoculars was more practical for that purpose. It also comes with a really nice case and shoulder/chest strap and a tripod mount attachment. One thing to note, with the wide 56mm lens ... you can't compress the pivot nearly as narrow as you can with a 42mm binoculars. As result, even when compressed down to the narrowest position, that was just barely enough to fit our eyes. Suggest you try them out before your purchase, to make sure that's not an issue. Other than that ... would highly recommend them.
I recently purchased these binoculars for nature viewing and stargazing. I opted for the 10x50's to get the benefit of the 5.0 exit pupil for light gathering. These are my first pair of HD binoculars, and I'm really impressed. The edge to edge clarity and depth of field is very good at this price point. There is some chromatic aberration, but it's minimal for my uses. When tripod mounted, the view is rock solid, and crystal clear. I tested the depth of field both inside and outside. While viewing items on my dining room table from about 15 feet away I could get a razor sharp focus on one item, and have the second item less than a foot away blurry out of focus. Much like the bokeh effect in photography. Outside from nearly 50 feet away I could achieve the same ... MoreI recently purchased these binoculars for nature viewing and stargazing. Much like the bokeh effect in photography. Outside from nearly 50 feet away I could achieve the same results on items about 3-5 feet apart. These binoculars are much heavier than my previous 10x42mm non HD set from another manufacturer. I honestly do feel it on long hikes in my backpack, so I'll convert to the included chest harness in the near future. I was able to view Jupiter and three of its moons last week, however, the shaky view was user error and no fault of the binoculars. My review rating is based on price point. I realize that there are much higher quality UHD optics on the market, but I can't currently justify my need to jump to that price level. This pair is excellent in this price range. My only gripe is that the factory installed tripod adaptor thread cover was over tightened. On 10x50mm binoculars there is not enough room to fit your adult fingers between each lens barrel to remove this cover. I eventually managed to remove it carefully by wrapping the plastic cover with hockey stick grip tape, and backing it out with needle nose pliers. I watched a Vortex video that shows easy removal with a lefty loosey finger twist. I don't think so. Mine took some effort even with pliers. Overall, this is an impressive set of binoculars.
I am shocked at how bad the CA is with these binoculars. It's not something you can see in the dim light inside the store. After I got them home, I was looking at a white horse in a field across the road from me and he was purple! A white fence post has purple fringe on the left that is as wide as the post and yellow fringe covers the post itself. Trees look like they have purple flowers on them. Called Vortex to ask them if they are defective and they basically said, you bought cheap binos so you pretty much got what you paid for. Be careful too about the IPD. I am an adult male and I can just barely close them together enough to make them usable. The eyepieces are as close together as they can be. If your eyes are close together, they may not work for you. I like ... MoreI am shocked at how bad the CA is with these binoculars. It's not something you can see in the dim light inside the store. This is an excellent set of entry level binoculars. I have only used cheap binoculars in the past thinking there was not much difference between them and more expensive sets. I couldn't have been more wrong! I bought a set of the Vortex Diamondback HDs at a Cabela's in Buda, TX. The salesman, Marvin, was extremely knowledgeable and helped me decide on the set that was right for me. I just started bird watching and wanted something better than what I had, but not too expensive in case I lose interest like so many other hobbies. I felt these were a reasonable price, easy to use, and I was shocked at how much more crisp and clear the image was from my cheap set. The shoulder straps also have attachments for the binoculars to keep them from falling when they are out of the case. If you don't want to use the chest bag, it also comes with a separate padded neck strap for more casual use. I liked them so much I bought a second set as a gift for my girlfriend. I'm sure there are much better binoculars available, but for someone like me who is new to the hobby and a smaller budget, I highly recommend these binoculars.
I sought counsel from seasoned hunters and marksmen, as I am a novice when it comes to "glass"....the term often used from folks who know about scopes and binoculars. I am so glad I did! A list of 4 outstanding "entry level" binocular companies was made.I say "entry level" because my previous pair of binoculars, bought 16 years ago, was a $50 pair of Tasco's. I thought they were good, but I didn't seek more info then and this was just before the internet so I went to a big box store and bought a pair.NOW I have these Vortex Diamondback HD 10x50!!Right out of the box here is what I noticed and like!1. I can instantly see clearly through them. No moving them around to get rid of that black areas I saw through my Tascos.2. Love the one-piece eye glass ... The rubberized feel is great to handle...very secure.I seriously had no idea binoculars could be so comfortable, focused and easy to use until I bought these.Yes, to me, $250 bucks is a large sum of money but I already love them enough to say the money spent was WELL WORTH IT!I expect to use these till the end of my career....and then some.Thank you Vortex for making a quality product and Academy Sports for quick secure shipping!
