I needed a pair of binoculars alittle more powerful then my Nikon 10x42. I researched many manufacturers and models. I decided that 12 power would be the right choice as anything more powerful would be hard to keep steady. Vortex is a proven name and after reading many reviews on the Diamondback HD model I was convinced these were the right choice. The clarity is as good or better then some of the much higher priced binoculars I have. Crystal clear !! The size and weight are just right and the adjustments are spot on. I also like 50mm which brings in a lot of light. I tried these in very low light conditions and was extremely pleased. The Diamondback HD preform as good as a binocular I own that cost 6 times as much. The case that comes with these is a added bonus. ... MoreI needed a pair of binoculars alittle more powerful then my Nikon 10x42. I researched many manufacturers and models. After a lot of searching for affordable binoculars , I came across these 10x42 Vortex HD Diamondback binoculars. They are lightweight and have a great field of view. They are comfortable on the eyes. They work great in low light situations. They come with a harness, bag, glass cloth and all the caps to protect the glass. The HD is so much better than your grandpa's old style binoculars. And for around $200 bucks, it's a great deal. B&H shipped them fast and they were well packed. I would definitely buy these again.

... based on the really good reviews here. My biggest concern was eye relief with glasses and sunglasses. It's *just* enough. Nikon Prostaff is better in that regard, among others. However, the eye relief distance works and I still get a full picture, and the rest of the experience punches far above it's price point. This to me is the perfect do-anything binocular, that you won't likely feel a need to upgrade from. It gives you excellent optics, durability, warranty, performance, and I love the Glass-Pak chest case. I'll use these birding, on vacation, on short hikes, at the range, and for the backyard with bugs and wildlife. Oh, and B&H was very excellent to work with- they answered my questions and shipped a flawless product quickly.

Great optics for the size and money! Plus a lifetime warranty, what more needs to be said. I have 1 small compaint...mine came with the Vortex Glasspack case. They put a quick release strap from the case to the binoculars, however the neck strap for the binoculars does not have a quick release option. So if you want to use the binoculars without the case you need to remove the quick connections and then mount the neck strap. Then reverse if you want to use them with the case...Vortex, If you're listening, put a matching quick connector on the neck strap!
I am shocked at how bad the CA is with these binoculars. It's not something you can see in the dim light inside the store. After I got them home, I was looking at a white horse in a field across the road from me and he was purple! A white fence post has purple fringe on the left that is as wide as the post and yellow fringe covers the post itself. Trees look like they have purple flowers on them. Called Vortex to ask them if they are defective and they basically said, you bought cheap binos so you pretty much got what you paid for. Be careful too about the IPD. I am an adult male and I can just barely close them together enough to make them usable. The eyepieces are as close together as they can be. If your eyes are close together, they may not work for you. I like ... MoreI am shocked at how bad the CA is with these binoculars. It's not something you can see in the dim light inside the store. Maybe another copy would be better, but I got the only pair they had in the store.
This is an excellent set of entry level binoculars. I have only used cheap binoculars in the past thinking there was not much difference between them and more expensive sets. I couldn't have been more wrong! I bought a set of the Vortex Diamondback HDs at a Cabela's in Buda, TX. The salesman, Marvin, was extremely knowledgeable and helped me decide on the set that was right for me. I just started bird watching and wanted something better than what I had, but not too expensive in case I lose interest like so many other hobbies. I felt these were a reasonable price, easy to use, and I was shocked at how much more crisp and clear the image was from my cheap set. I felt these were a reasonable price, easy to use, and I was shocked at how much more crisp and clear the image was from my cheap set. I also really like that they come with a chest mounted carrying bag that keeps the binoculars from swinging around or getting snagged on branches while walking. The shoulder straps also have attachments for the binoculars to keep them from falling when they are out of the case. If you don't want to use the chest bag, it also comes with a separate padded neck strap for more casual use. I liked them so much I bought a second set as a gift for my girlfriend. I'm sure there are much better binoculars available, but for someone like me who is new to the hobby and a smaller budget, I highly recommend these binoculars.
Since 1978, I have been ordering almost all of my photographic equipment from B&H. So, for 44 years, I have come to rely on them for providing the products I need, at a great price. With this latest purchase, from the day of order to receipt was THREE days . . . and that is from New Jersey to California! These binoculars appear to be very well built and with clear, bright lenses. And for me, the harness/pouch system alone is a $40.00 item. The only mystery is why Vortex didn't provide quick-release snaps on the separate camera strap, which would really make the system top notch.
This review is primarily an explanation as to why I purchased these binoculars on Galaxus rather than a review of them after being used for a period of time.I bought the Vortex DIAMONDBACK HD 10X42 binoculars as a present for a friend who is going to study birds for a year at a research facility. The parameters for selecting the HD 10X42 binoculars specifically was: A wide field of view, bright optics, stability at a relatively high magnification and the compact size/low weight of the binoculars. Also, they rugged, easy to use and are a significant step above beginner binoculars which means they could be used by a professional on a regular basis.I searched Galaxus for binoculars and was presented with a wide range of options. Also, they rugged, easy to use and are a significant step above beginner binoculars which means they could be used by a professional on a regular basis.I searched Galaxus for binoculars and was presented with a wide range of options. Being inexperienced I bought these binoculars after reading several online reviews which suggested they would be perfect for the intended use. Vortex being a premium brand with history of offering high quality products positioned to offer excellent features without being too expensive. The Diamondback binoculars have a HD optical system which significantly improved brightness, contrast, resolution, sharpness and deliver a very good edge-to-edge clarity. In sub-optimal light, there will be a slight chromatic aberration. For example, on cloudy days or in fog, the center view will be crystal clear with good contrast, but the outer edges will lose their clarity just a bit apparently. However, at this price point this effect seems to be minimal.Out of the box the construction and build quality is immediately evident. They feel fantastic in the hand. Focal adjustment is very smooth/easy to use and the optics are indeed bright and clear. Please note: The size of the lens (10X42) does mean the focal area is smaller than you might imagine. Finding a moving target will be more difficult than with larger lenses. This is not a criticism of these binoculars, it is just a factor to consider when selecting a particular model and its intended use.
Surprisingly much better than the price would suggest. If handed them over the counter by a sales person I would have guessed in the $600-$700 range. Sharp, clear image (after all, isn’t that why we buy binoculars?) Many unexpected details like the thumb depressions on the underside, attached objective caps in addition to the top rain covers, and the harness being included rather than a $60-$70 option as with most brands. Are they $3000 Leica or Swarovski, no. Are they more, really more, than most birders or hunters need? Oh yes, make that a YES. I would strongly recommend these. I’ve only been using them for almost a month but haven’t yet found anything to dislike.
I'm very happy with the optical quality, clear view, close-focusing ability and overall features. The eye caps twist up which is very convenient, and the feel of the glasses is great. However, the hinges are way too tight and for a moment I thought of returning them, but me and my girlfriend have the same eye distance so once they are set we don't have to adjust, and therefore it works for both of us. If you have many users - don't buy these glasses. Otherwise they are the best glasses I ever had.Less importantly, the case is very nice but the latch to close it could be more reliable (hook to catch the band needs to be set on a stiff backing so it can't pull upwards).
